Probably hand crafted stirling silver earrings with onyx drops for about $100 isn't so bad, but as a general rule I can't afford any of the pieces with more precious stones, although many are exquisite. I bought another pair there for a gift for about the same price, and they too were an original design so I was happy to spend that for twisted sterling silver drops. Stephen Dibb sends out a glossy and gorgeous booklet about once a year and the designs are truly beautiful. It's also interesting that he tells us he buys his gems ethically and supports a village in Africa, inviting us to help him too, so that's a good reason to support the store if you're in Cleveland anytime.

They have gorgeous diamonds, gems and pearls for all occasions. There are some truly beautiful coloured gemstones, delicate cuts and impressive rings. They seem to have a focus on engagement rings and helping the average guy pick the perfect one. They are very service and quality oriented. Definitely go if you are looking for something special and a bit different.

Being a bit of a rockhead, I've had a couple of rings designed around stones that we've bought at the gem shows and overseas. One in particular is a work of art. They stock Chamilla and Thomas Sabo jewellery (you will often find me here drooling over Thomas Sabo charms) along with some other smaller jewellery makers. I've taken in broken jewellery that they have fixed on the spot for me for free but they are also able to send it off to a very good jewellery manufacturer for the harder to fix problems.

We were immediately greeted by the Store Manager Peta-Ann who asked us if we were just browsing or after something in particular. We told her what happened and what we were after. She asked us several questions on stones, colour, weight, type, price etc and she presented some rings to him. He was amazed because after asking just a few questions, she knew just what sort of tastes he has and was able to choose a stunning ring to replace his lost one. We were also very pleasantly surprised that a lot of the jewellery was very well priced. So we purchased that ring then and there! We came back a few weeks after my husband found his original wedding ring and asked if it could be resized. Due to the type it was, they advised us that it would not be a good idea to resize because of the damage that could be done to it so we decided not to do anything with it and keep it on a chain but while we were there, we found another ring that was very unique and my husband just had to have it so we ended up buying it. On the way to my hairdresser I took a punt and dropped into Val Ray. I'm so glad I did. Friendly staff, pleasant attitide, not pushy, full of options. I took a photo of a couple of watches I liked and then whilst getting my haircut, did some online comparisons. Val Ray prices were very competitive so in the end I decided to give them my money rather than some anonymous internet vendor. I also know if there is ever any issues, they will help me out, no problems at all.

I rang Val Ray, expecting a similar response from jewellers I had contacted as far afield as Sth Aus. What a difference, the casual helpful attitude in reply to my enquiries was not what I expected. I received a call back within twenty minutes which fully explained why I was having the difficulties I experienced. I had even spoken to Seiko in Sydney, when I mentioned Val Ray it was clear Seiko did a lot of business with them. Consequently I sealed the deal with Val Ray for a genuine Seiko Sportura It was the best price I had received in two wasted days on the web minefield. This one is bigger and better than the rest. The size obviously results in a larger selection, but it's still not a place I would highly recommend or drag my unsuspecting boyfriend past while dropping hints. There's some lovely stuff but I just wasn't mouth agape, struggling to decide which of their items I could justify buying.

The shop attendant was busy talking to a friend so I didn't really get any assistance in that respect. In terms of repairs though, Hall's does a good job for a reasonable price. I've had a watch fixed there before as well as a necklace which had broken as a result of the debauchery of a night out.
