Excellent GP practice- lovely friendly reception staff and a clean bright and spacious reception…read morearea- it even has great magazines! It's really easy to register - you complete 3 forms which you can either collect in the surgery or print from the website. You do have to live in either G3, G11 or G12 postcodes to register. There are advance and on the day appointments available as well as telephone consultations. I've only ever met Dr MacLaren and have always received an excellent and efficient service. This practice offers a really wide range of services including online patient access to repeat prescriptions, online cancellations and the ability to update your personal information. I love a technologically advanced public service! Everything is available here from travel health advice and services, house calls, stop smoking and children's health services. I love the prescription collection service where you can collect repeat prescriptions directly from the dinky wee Boots along the road. I've never really had cause to rave about a GP practice before but this one is truly fantastic!

I did a quick search on the net and wrote down a few addresses, and then headed off to do a bit of a reccy. The first few surgeries on my list looked so awful that I didn't even go in. I was starting to wonder whether they had ANY nice looking surgeries in my area when I finally came across one that looked just about alright. I went in to find a very crowded small room, and dubiously asked the receptionist whether I could register with them. Unfortunately, she told me that they weren't registering patients at the moment - and pointed me in the direction of Abingdon Medical Practice on Stewartville Street. When I reached Stewartville Street, I swear a breathed a massive sigh of relief. Not only was it very clean and pleasant looking, when I got in it was bright airy and nearly empty. Registering was really quick and easy. It's easy to get an appointment, once you get there you don't usually have to wait for too long, and they have a large selection of magazines in the waiting room. The receptionists are also really nice, not like the grumpy ones you normally find in health practices. Basically, just about everything you could ask for from a doctors surgery.

So, signing up at a new GP for me was shaping up to be a bit of an ordeal but it really wasn't. The sign up was painless, the reception was so easy to deal with and friendly too. The following day I got a doctor appointment, even met the nurse who was very warm and friendly, made me feel right at home. So far, great experience with this medical practice. Couldn't ask for more really.

The reception desk is accessible either by stairs or a ramp and is situated just inside the main door, on the right, and the receptionists are friendly and helpful. The modern building is light and airy with an unusual triangular open-plan waiting area with a high glass roof. Cushions would be nice on the wooden seats but that's just a small point and not worth taking off one of the five stars. I've now seen a nurse and one of the doctors and liked both of them straightaway; they both inspired confidence and were very pleasant. There's a car park immediately to the left of the building or, if that's full, there are metered spaces on the main road.

There are usually approx five or six doctors in practice and same again in nurses. They provide an excellent service. You are guaranteed an emergency appointment within 48hrs but is usually same day and if you just need to speak to someone they have telephone consultations. If you need to see the nurse no appointment is needed and you don't have to wait long to see her. They have also started evening appointments for people with 9-5 jobs who normally find it difficult to see a doctor. Reception staff are also really good and I find myself really lucky to have such a good doctor's practice on my doorstep.
Let's face it, nobody wants to visit the doctors. Having had arthritis since the age of four…read morethough, I'm a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to local practices. This is the latest one, and probably one of my favourites. Obviously they look after me and provide me with all kinds of important medical care, but this place gets three things right that so many others have failed on. Firstly, making an appointment. As wonderful as the NHS is, there will always have to be concessions made in trying to provide care for everyone. I've known first hand the frustrations local practices feel in trying to provide adequate care for their patients while dealing with strict staff and budget constraints. The mark of a good surgery to me is how well the staff deal with these frustrations. The doctors, nurses and receptionists of the Buckingham Terrace Medical Practice deal with this admirably, and whilst I'm sometimes faced with delays when trying to fit an appointment around my working life, they always go the extra mile to make sure I'm seen and sorted in as quick a time as possible. Secondly, they do a great job at monitoring patients, and if I get too lax or too busy with my life, they always provide a prompt and friendly reminder that I really should go see my doctor. Knowing I'm being looked after in such a fashion is a huge weight off my mind. Finally, the website is an excellent resource, with all the information you could need about the practice and it's various clinics, and a helpful staff on hand should you have further queries. Ordering repeat prescriptions via the website is also a lovely touch in an increasingly time sensitive world.

It seems I lucked out! In a medical practice, there are a few things I look for; polite, friendly staff, ease of making appointments, availability of appointments and good one-to-one patient care. They get all of these right. With an ongoing health issue, I've been to the doctor more in the last seven months than I have in the previous ten years. So the fact that the staff are friendly and flexible, the GPs do their best to forge a relationship with their patients, it's a few minutes walk from my flat and they offer handy things like repeat prescriptions online and text reminders of appointments, Buckingham Terrace offers everything you'd want in a modern, patient-focused practice. I only have good things to say!

With a clean and nicely decorated reception ( as far as reception areas go!), friendly and helpful staff and a great bunch of family doctors, i cant really say much more to be honest. The clinical staff iare indeed first class…read more However, the admin., staff are dreadful. They are confrontational to the extent they are aggressive, especially when patients know and quote their rights. Patients do have to quote their rights because the procedures the admin., staff quote do not complement our N.H.S., rights and surgeries responsibilities to the N.H.S., and indeed patients. There is no point complaining to the practice. The practice manager ignores telephone messages and visits. When you prompt her reply via correspondence to the partner G.P., she will simply tell you to go elsewhere. There is not much in the way of confidentiality at the front desk. The receptionists discuss triage with each other at the front desk for all to hear. I can tell you several patients names and health problems they have because I have heard such discussions. Of course you must select a G.P., based on their clinical ability and not their admin., staff's ability. However, before signing up be aware it is likely you will have to complain about the support staff. I doubt you will ever have to complain about the G.P.s; I have consulted every one and they are all been attentive, deliberate and correct. One other thing. The prescription service is awful and will be an issue. Kelvin Medical Centre are very selective about the N.H.S., prescription services they provide. P.s., had one experience with the nurse that was deeply unfavourable. In the end I had to insist she was supervised by a G.P., in carrying out the most basic of procedures, a procedure that auxiliaries carryout in hospital. A.
