We lived in Queens but we would make the one hour trip to Long Island for our dental visits. Impractical, but worth it. LOCATION- Building is right by the highway; parking is plentiful; and during long waits, one can go shopping in nearby commercial areas. Lots of places to eat, too, in case your appointment falls around lunchtime. OFFICE ATMOSPHERE- The dental office isn't too fancy nor intimidating. It's just a neat, normal-looking office. The waiting room has a t.v. and an aquarium with live fish resembling characters from Disney's Finding Nemo. It's also clean and quiet. STAFF- We had a pleasant experience with the staff who worked on us. They were always friendly to us and made small, meaningful talks. And, during our weekly visits, we had to bring our daughter, who was only a year old at that time. Never did we feel any bad vibes about bringing our child to our appointments. In fact, some of the staff would play with our daughter when they weren't too busy. Also, the hygienists are quite good in what they do. I appreciated them more since the hygienist in our new town, I think, has heavy hands. DENTIST- We are glad to have come across Dr. Calvet. She is very motherly but professional. I think she has the knack of making her patients feel comfortable with her so that they can trust her. After all, dental visits are very, very intimate. She explains what she is doing or what she plans to do. My husband has very bad dental hygiene but she doesn't scold or embarrass him for that. We stopped going to her office when we moved Upstate but we have to say, she did a good job with our teeth. Our new dentist was amazed when he saw the work on our teeth. He had only compliments for them.

I very recently visited Dr. Lana Rozenberg's new office on West 54th Street. I chose this office…read morebecause they were ridiculously nice on the phone (thanks, Paris!) and more importantly, in network with my insurance. When Dr. Rozenberg informed me that she was the only dentist in the practice that did the type of work I needed and she was not in network, I said I'd have to go elsewhere. All of a sudden an in-network, fully capable dentist appeared! I walked away with a $3500+ estimate. When I realized that there were more charges on the estimate then there were procedures, I called my insurance company. It turns out they were charging for materials and tools that, per their contract, cannot be charged separately. When made aware of this by the insurance company rep, they would not back down from the costs. The $3500 bill should only have been $730. Very shady!

I incurred a personal charge of more than $2,000. I have very good supplemental dental insurance and I was shocked by these charges which are nothing like at my prior dentist. I will probably need more substantive work than this done on my teeth, like re-doing some crowns, but after this experience I do not plan to return to Dr. Rozenberg's because my personal expenses would probably be even greater. I don't think it is practical for working people to incur such out of pocket expenses, when they are paying good money for dental insurance.

I am living pain-free for the first time in my life since my teens. They helped me get CareCredit too so everything went smoothly. Having me on the phone, I yes'd them through to a random date 2 months way. In that time I had set up an appointment somewhere else and had the appointment. 2 months roll by and I had forgotten about the appointment until I receive a call again THE day of the appointment asking if I could come in at a time an hour earlier when I've expressed to them that I work. I was shocked, that would mean they double booked my appointment and either if I said no, my original appointment wouldn't be available. So I never responded, they cancelled my appointment for me, I thought. THEN, a few days roll by and I receive a letter saying I OWE THEM $75 for missing my appointment. I do not understand the logic behind the charge when you asked me to come in a different time. Organize your appointments better and stop grasping at straws for pocket change.

I don't usually post things like this, but I honestly feel like I need to share my experience in…read morecase it helps someone else. DO NOT BOOK WITH GREAT EXPRESSIONS DENTAL ISLANDIA!! I've had a really frustrating and honestly disheartening experience with Great Expressions Dental Islandia. I originally went in for a routine cleaning that my insurance covered, but I was told they wouldn't do the cleaning unless I agreed to an out-of-pocket "deep cleaning" that I've also been told by their hygienist that I don't actually need. I was told to wait six months and then they would do the routine cleaning without requiring the deep cleaning, so I did exactly that. I came back for my appointment yesterday, and once again, they refused to do the cleaning. That already left me feeling really uncomfortable and pressured. On top of that, this has become a pattern. About six months ago at my last appointment, I was told they couldn't do my cleaning because the hygienist had left early. The next time, I was told she was "too busy" to fit me in, even though I had scheduled the appointment months in advance. Every time I go, there always seems to be a different reason why the cleaning can't actually happen. Yesterday, I showed up and was again told the hygienist had left early. I don't understand how this keeps happening when patients are already scheduled. Then I was told to come back today specifically for the cleaning. I made the appointment, and I was already on my way there when I received a call shortly before my scheduled time saying they would not do the cleaning unless I agreed to the same "deep cleaning." This is something my insurance does not cover because it is not deemed necessary, and I've been told by the hygienist herself that I don't need it, it was just recommended. I've also had appointments where I've waited a long time past my scheduled time, only to be told last minute that things were changing again. It honestly feels really upsetting and frustrating to be on my way in after rearranging my day, only to be turned away once again for the same reason. I always try to be understanding, but at this point it feels like my time and care aren't being respected or prioritized, and that's been really disappointing. Just sharing this in case it helps someone else advocate for themselves or think twice before booking with Great Expressions Dental.

I went for a second opinion elsewhere, that Dr was very knowledgeable. He told me my tooth isn't decaying and I do not need an endodontist. He explained why my tooth hurts. Definitely will be switching out of great expressions.
