As the respondent, I spent significant time, money, and emotional energy defending myself against allegations that were ultimately not proven in court. I was particularly troubled by the fact that the case appeared to be based on speech that I believed was protected by the First Amendment. In my opinion, attorneys should thoroughly investigate allegations before seeking serious legal remedies that can affect a person's reputation and livelihood.
