We stopped and just walked in here to ask how can we get in. Apparently you can't :( It actually goes through 3 states but it's not an option to walk around or see stuff. There were lots of cool things both inside & out and I got a nice agate necklace. Our RV spot was a level pull-thru with electricity (Necessary! It was hot when we arrived!) and some shade & picnic table. Perfect for entering Petrified Forest from the South Gate (literally 200 yards from our spot) right at 8am. We stopped at the Crystal Forest Museum, gift shop & RV Park, just outside the West Park Entrance. RV spaces are free. Yes there are no hookups but there are tables and concrete pads. Also the museum was great. What a collection of artifacts, fossils & petrified wood. The next morning we drove into the Park and stopped at the Visitors Center. This stop is a must. The displays are great and a walk among all the petrified trees in the back is amazing. We then continued our journey through the Park and thru the Painted Desert to the East Entrance. I'm old and seen pieces of petrified wood many times in my travels and have run across some pieces while hunting in the West but the quantity and the size of the pieces and trees here is amazing. If your in the area and have an hour or two to drive the 28 mile loop through this Park and are a rock fan or want to marvel at what Mother Nature can do, you should visit this National Park.

Condensed menu, just the basics, no unnecessary hype, no fake variations, no upsell. They know what they do and they do it right. Third: the gift shop. This one surprised me. Solid range of price points, collector-grade jewelry sitting right next to casual pieces and everyday gifts. Sundries, the usual gift shop fare, but also a few original items I didn't see anywhere else on the route. Dropped some good cash and walked out like a bandit. Fourth: the staff. The two ladies working were some of the friendliest, most engaging people we met the whole trip. Made it easy to keep browsing, and kept the wallet open longer than planned. Must-visit if you're moving between Gallup and Winslow. Don't blow past it.
