Chicken of a New Era Pizza (Small $11.50).
    Jennifer P.

I went here for dinner tonight with a few fellow Yelpers and thought it was pretty good. The place is small and only has seating for about 15-20 people. We were a group of 6 and that's probably the largest group they can accommodate to have everyone sitting together. Most people came in for takeout. I had the small "Chicken of a New Era" Pizza ($11.50). It had tomato sauce, mozzarella, chicken, artichokes, fresh tomatoes, and feta cheese. It was good, but a little too topping heavy and wet. The chicken was sliced chicken breast meat that was slightly seasoned. The artichokes were marinated and this contributed to the pizza being too wet, as did the fresh tomatoes. I liked how the crust was thin, but the pizza here is not Neapolitan-style like I thought it would be. The crust was not blistery. However, it was still good. I also had a San Pellegrino ($1.50) - they had pomegranate flavour!! My lovely fellow Yelpers traded some slices with me so I was able to try some of the other pizzas. Here's what I thought of them: - "Pig's Heaven" Pizza (tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, bacon and sausage). Too salty and too dry for my tastes. - "Goat in a Garden" Pizza (tomato sauce, mozzarella, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, and goat cheese). The most pretty looking pizza of the bunch, lots of flavour and the creamy goat cheese gave it a nice texture. - "Chick has a good time" Pizza (grilled chicken, BBQ sauce, red onions, roasted red peppers and mozzarella). Really tasty, moist but not too wet, probably my favourite of the ones I tried. The menu is written on a chalkboard over the cash register. There's no salad on the chalkboard menu, but they also serve salad (it's on their online menu). Two in our group got a salad and while I didn't have any, they looked good. Tomaso's is in the Kanata Centrum. It's a maze in there, so it might be hard to find. It's across from the CIBC bank. It's closer to the Holiday Inn end of the Centrum. There's lots of free parking.

THIS is what I was waiting for - and looking forward to! This is my 400th review!!! I have walked into this restaurant once before, but I didn't order food that time. What stood out in my mind from that previous visit was the memory of the chalk-board menu overhead, which isn't flat but sort of angled (didn't someone post a photo of it? I forgot to!) Now that I was planning on meeting people there, I was very glad that someone else in Yelp had posted about it being hard to find, and across from the CIBC. Thank you for that! I arrived by bus, and those directions made it very easy to find! The food was very good: I got a Greek salad and the "Chick has a good time" Pizza, with a pomegranate San Pellegrino. I was impressed that the pizza was thin crust but didn't fall apart or sag and drop all the goodies onto the plate - I hate when that happens! I really prefer a thick crust partly because of this, but mostly because of the flavour of the crust. OK, so I like bread! This visit was more fun in that we shared slices of pizza with other guests in our group so I got to sample other recipes. The pizzas are creative, with slices of real chicken, which I really appreciated. Very tasty. My pizza had BBQ sauce on it, which was a bit sweet. The cook / server was very friendly but overworked as he was alone. We were in a group of 6 people, and I got the impression that the restaurant doesn't do a lot of sit down service, as the seating was adequate but not overly inviting for bigger groups (not a lot of ambiance in the seating area). It's a small space, and they use every inch of it! As usual, it was great to see everyone!

To; Dr: pretty good food overall. Panini was on the smaller side and pizza was a tad oily and tasted like a heart attack. My mom and I came for a late dinner to this small restaurant serving Italian food. We ordered a large "Join the Club" Panini ($8, the owner/chef said there was only 1 size despite the menu said 2) with chicken, tomato, smoked bacon, provolone cheese and garlic mayo. We also ordered a Small "The Pigs Heaven" grilled pizza with tomato sauce, pepperoni, bacon, homemade sausage, and mozzarella cheese. The food came together (hot!) So the chef knew how to serve. The panini was on the smaller / thinner side but the focaccia bread was nicely pressed and hot. The "Large" Panini wouldn't be enough food for a hungry person. My mom ate the panini with provolone cheese (I didn't) and she did say her stomach didn't feel that well after. The pizza was freshly made and cooked on the spot. It felt really heavy to be honest and you could visibly see the oil sitting between the crevices of the pizza and between cheese dimples. The bottom of the pizza had charred grill marks and it was also a LITTLE bit burnt (but it's not something I'd really complain about). The pizza crust is thin crust. Overall I enjoyed the food (I was really hungry). The panini was on the smaller side but tasted great. The pizza tasted like a heart attack pie. It was a very hearty and filling pizza but tasted a little salty. The interior is pretty small with limited seating options. Most people we saw called in to have pizza for takeout.

    Pigs heaven!

Having never heard about this pizza place before, I was excited to try it as I was told it was delicious! I tried "Pig's Heaven", which is a hearty mix of pepperoni, bacon, home-made sausage, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese! I got a personal size for $7.50 which filled me up! It was made in about 10 minutes, and the pizza was not too thin nor too thick. I really enjoyed it as it had a good amount of toppings. The condiments you could add really made it even tastier! I drizzled some of the chili-infused olive oil (it was not spicy at all) all over the top of the pizza (plus dipped my crust in it), added red chili flakes, asked for parmesan (which they gave in a small cup, as it was not available at the counter), and salt/pepper. I will be back to try their other flavors, they have some vegetarian ones as well. I haven't heard about their paninis but may try that as well.

As soon as you walk in, you get a feeling that this is not your typical pizza joint and when you're leaving you make a mental note to visit again. This place is small and cozy, kept clean and has comfortable seating as far as pizza joints go. The decor and environment isn't anything special but it still gives you a feeling that you are eating at a place that is better than fast food. I quite liked the angular chalkboard style menu which also made it a challenge to read it; thankfully they have a paper menu (see images) They serve fire roasted flatbread pizza. The flat bread is pre-made in house and tasted fresh; the sauces are also made in-house. I ordered a personal size "A Thai Massage' pizza, which smelled great. Taste wise the curry sauce was delicious and very unique and not over bearing. The ingredients were fresh and I could taste the chicken, cheese and vegetables separately which is rare in the pizza world. Personal size pizza is the perfect amount of food for person for dinner. As far as pizza goes, this is one of the best pizzas under $10 I've eaten and would pick this over any of the pizza chains. They missed a 5-star rating for a few reasons. I was hoping they would offer more choice in drinks then just pop and juice. The lighting could have been brighter, and I would have liked to get a plate and metal cutlery for my pizza. They do have plastic forks and napkins They offer in-store pick-up and delivery in the Kanata area. They accept only cash and debit. Also I went in when there was no rush and it took over 10 minutes to get the pizza so plan to spend some time. Individual slices are not available.

What a wonderful aroma when you first enter this place. On the menu is a variety of basic pasta dishes with your choice of meat at an extra charge of $3, Paninis, Salad, and Pizza. Today's order consisted of 2 larger sized Paninis which were ideal for sharing as we wanted to try 2 different ones. 1st choice was the "off the Barbie" panini which consists of BBQ chicken, hot peppers, and smoke mozzarella. 2nd was "join the club" which consisted of roasted chicken, tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, sun dried tomato pesto, and fresh basil. Total paid was $19 which included a can of pop. Overall I enjoyed it. The panini was made fresh and arrived at our table very quickly. Between the 2 paninis ordered today, I found for me I liked the "off the barbie" more as it sweet and spicy at the same time. The large which consisted of 3 halves was pretty filling. I'm hoping to try a pizza in the future. Check out the trial portion of their chalk board menu where you'll find what looks like experiments for additions to their menu. Guy who helped us was helpful and courteous. It wasn't busy at all when we went so not sure how fast you'd get your food during a lunch rush. Overall I'd come back if I was in the mood for something different.

Delicious and close to home! Was here for a pizza club meeting last week, had such a great experience! Was one of the first to arrive and got to scope out the menu. See the photos! Our orders were all put in at different times, 1 salad and 5 pizzas, all delivered to our tables around the same time! The za's were all a size small, which is one size up from the personal, and was prefect size for me! I ordered A Pigs Heaven, which had Moz, Bacon, Sausage and Pepperoni and swapped one slice for a chicken and artichoke. A Pigs Heaven was the best pizza I've had since Italy! Oh geez, it was so good. The crust was perfectly crispy and held all of my meat without drooping when picked up, could have used a bit more sauce, but delicious either way! The chicken and artichoke was not my cup of tea. the artichokes were very wet and made the pizza kind of soggy. Seating was limited, but we all fit! The store front holds about 18 people in 3 booths and 3 two person tables. The pizza maker and delivery guy were awesome! They will deliver as far as Morgan's grant and stittsville, but that's about as far as some of the delivery guys will go, by request only. Definitely will be back!

    Their Greek salad is delicious!

Came here on a date night with the Beau, we shared a medium pizza and salad and we were definitely not disappointed. The staff are really cool and did not give me a hard time for changing my order literally two minutes after having given it- thanks for that! This little place definitely packs a flavour punch and if you haven't been, I suggest you try it. Their pizza is definitely my favourite, I don't know what it is, but it always has me wanting to come back! There is lots of parking, and near several bus routes, so you've got no excuse to not try it out - Enjoy!

Great Pizza. Home made. Fresh. Reasonably priced. Wide selection. We ate in, small but a few tables to accommodate. Would go back

Glad I visited this place while I was in town. Really great pasta served fast. Real comfort food especially during the freezing weather! I will definitely be back!

Try the deep dish if you like thick crust! Amazing!

You get to choose your bread (and I believe there is no extra charge for gluten-free bread), cheese, up to 3 meats, unlimited vegetables and unlimited sauces. I got the hoagie, which was like a soft submarine bread, with Havarti cheese, chicken, turkey and ham, lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, black olives, pickles, cucumbers, hot eggplant, roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes and arugula. No sauce (I prefer a drier sandwich, lol). The man who made my bread was super nice. And they have very good sanitation practices. Food preparers wear gloves. The man prepped my bread, meats and cheese, and then put it in the toaster, since I asked to have it toasted. Then he cashed out the lady ahead of me. Then I saw him change his gloves before he came back and finished preparing my sandwich. I wished all restaurants followed these practices. Bravo! The sandwich was cut in half, and I ate half and brought the rest home to my husband, who also thoroughly enjoyed it. My only complaint, and it's totally on me for choosing the toppings, but it was a bit too salty with the black olives, pickles, eggplant AND sun-dried tomatoes. I might just go with the eggplant and skip the other 3 next time. Ingredients tasted fresh. The sandwich was much tastier than at those fast food chains. This sandwich is literally the reason I downloaded this app…read more I've just spent the whole winter in Quebec and am now hitchhiking across Canada and decided to stay in Ottawa a few days. I booked 4 nights at the Saintlo jail hostel and when I came downstairs after a rejuvenating nap I saw that they had a list of recommendations sitting amongst a pile of other plastic sheets. Dirienzo's - the best ITALIAN SANDWICH in the city. I'm not really an Italian sandwich sort of person normally, maybe it was contributed by the burgeoning like for cured meats that I was acquiring after eating dried salami as my only source of food for the past week or so -- but who's going to pass up the chance to try the BEST of anything? I got there after taking 2 buses and was starting to become a bit concerned. I had $40 in my account and was hitchhiking across the country -- after all it was labelled the BEST in the city and that would normally come with a hefty price tag. When I first opened the door I instantly got greeted by the guy behind the counter, which made me feel welcomed and at ease. I looked up to view the selection of sandwiches that they had on offer and potentially the cheaper ones. I was surprised to see the sign that said $10 for ANY SANDWICH!! #booyah I was finding it hard to decide on which of the sandwiches to get since they all looked so appetising, but decided on number 16. The sandwich was massive for the price that it was. The bread was a perfect mix between durable so that it wouldn't fall apart in your hands, but soft enough that it was enjoyable, with the amount of bread contemplating he rest of the fillings just the right amount. I was pretty overwhelmed to be honest with how good it was. All of the ingredients including the lettuce (which I've found is usually the first thing places will skimp out on) were extremely fresh. I put in my coworker groupchat: "Anyone coming over across Canada after the season has to make a stop in Ottawa if they aren't already just to try one of these." Accompanied by a photo of my eyes watering with glee. My Nonna is always telling me how I need to learn Italian to be more connected to our culture and I've always just kindof brushed it off since I haven't needed to use it and we don't speak it much at home, but this has made me so proud to be Italian. As I continued to eat the sandwich sitting on a bench looking towards the city and the people playing basketball in the park, I found myself contemplating staying in Canada and raising my kids here in Ottawa so that they get to experience it themselves on a warm summer afternoon after picking them up from school. I got the Chicken Sandwich ($15.95). It was sliced real chicken breast meat, mozzarella cheese, mixed greens, cucumbers, picked onions and fig jam. It usually comes with mayo, but I asked them to omit it. All sandwiches come with a mini 4 oz soup. I chose the curried carrot and squash soup. The sandwich was delicious. The bread they use is a Kaiser and it's from Carp Bakery. It was soft and very fresh. I loved that the meat was real chicken and not deli meat. The fig jam was tasty and gave the sandwich a nice sweet taste. The soup was a bit watery, but was full of flavour. It had a strong curry flavour and the coconut milk in it made it a bit creamy. I enjoyed it. Funny story: I ordered the chicken sandwich. They ask your name for the order. The lady who ordered after me also got the chicken sandwich but she asked for no cheese. The cashier announced to the kitchen "no cheese on the chicken sandwich" and the kitchen asked "which order? Jennifer's?" And the cashier said "no, the next one, I haven't punched it in yet." Lol. I chimed in "I love cheese, I definitely want cheese on my sandwich!" The man in the kitchen said "alright, extra cheese for Jennifer!" And the lady after me said "yeah, you can have my cheese." Haha. So I got two slices of cheese in my sandwich. Score! Lol. Everyone working there was super nice and friendly. It's a small place, so the cash and the kitchen are right next to each other. I took my order to go, but there's seating to dine in. I noticed they have a small amount of branded merchandise, like baseball caps. There is free parking in their private parking lot at the back of the restaurant. Fun facts: The Wiches Cauldron started off as a food truck in the early/mid 2010s. Some time in the early 2020s they moved into their present location which was Red Gables Creperie before (it was also briefly Red Gables Ramen before they rebranded and started selling crepes instead of ramen). The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. District Deli only has cold sandwiches. No hot sandwiches, at least not at the time of the writing of this review. Service was courteous and efficient. Street parking only. Review #118 (2025)
