Was there for dinner this evening, and our meals were amazing. I ordered the build your own pasta... linguine, Alfredo, chicken, and Italian bacon, and my husband got the linguine, arrabiata, mushrooms, chicken, and Italian bacon. Both meals were hot, loaded with ingredients, and arrived quickly, within 15 minutes of placing our order. The taste, quality, and quantity were amazing. A definite must eat at. There food is always consistently excellent and the portions being huge, give you a nice takeout lunch for tomorrow. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We highly recommend this place. I had dinner here with my husband and some Yelp friends (it was our second Ottawa's Yelp International Supper Club meeting. Our first was Korean, and we decided to do Italian this time). Via Cibo touts itself as serving "Italian street food." Their menu is basically pizzas, pastas, paninis, and salads. Overall, I felt it was just ok. So the way it works at Via Cibo is you order and pay at the cash register. They give you a number on a stand. You sit down wherever you like, and put your number on the table. When your food is ready, they will bring it to your table. You get your own cutlery and napkins. Staff do come around and take away empty plates when you're done, and they do come by to ask if you are enjoying your meal. So it's a hybrid between full table service and a fast food restaurant. I got the Balsamic Chicken Salad ($14). It was spinach, roasted red peppers, pickled onions, goat cheese, and chicken. I asked for the dressing on the side and was happy to receive it as such. Unfortunately, even before I put on any dressing I noticed that the salad was oily :( I think it was from the oil the chicken was cooked in. The salad was ok. The pickled onions were interesting. They were a bit sweet. The ingredients went well together, and they weren't too stingy with the meat in comparison to other salad ingredients, but overall the salad was smaller than I expected. My husband got the Pollo Pesto Panini ($11) and Tuscan fries ($5). I had some fries. They were topped with grated parmesan cheese. I found the fries too salty and a bit mealy. I generally love fries, but I wasn't a fan of these. My husband was unimpressed with his sandwich. He said it was way too oily/greasy (and his oil/grease tolerance is much higher than mine). It was chicken breast pieces mixed with pesto and vegetables. It looked super oily to me, so I didn't try any :( His sandwich came with a small pile of oily mixed greens too (just lettuce, no other vegetables). They serve gelato from Stella Luna at Via Cibo. They have squares and other desserts too (not sure if made in-house or not). Via Cibo is in the Kanata Centrum. Anyone who's read my review of the Kanata Centrum knows how much I despise driving around there. I tried not to let my disdain of the Kanata Centrum affect my opinion of Via Cibo, but maybe there was some spillover, lol. It was great getting together with fellow Yelpers and I'm glad I gave Via Cibo a try, but I doubt I would return on my own as I found the food just ok and I don't like going to the Kanata Centrum. read more

I was super excited when I found out that the next Yelp Ottawa Supper Club was going to be a Via Cibo. I spent the following week leading up to this event going through their menu online as well as looking at pictures on their Yelp page trying to narrow down my meal plan for Friday night. I knew right away what I wanted to try; the pizza! Upon walking in (through the exit door, lol), the place was pretty busy, but luckily there was enough seating for our group of eight and we found a nice cozy spot to dig into our food. Like other reviews mentioned, its cafeteria style, you order at the cash, they give you a number, you put it on your table and they bring you the food. Surprisingly that process was well executed, but would recommend ordering everything at once, as the line to order food is unpredictable. There is also a setup along the wall in the dinning area where you can find hot oil, straws, plates & napkins...pretty much the essentials to complete your dinning experience. Now onto the food... We started off with the tuscan fries which I thought was the highlight of my meal, and enjoyed the dipping sauce that it came with, it had some kick. Shortly after, my margherita pizza showed up and my eyes lit up, but unfortunately, the pizza fell short. It was luke warm at best, and was seriously missing some punch to the sauce. There was no tang, no spices/salt, but fell along the lines of just canned tomato sauce. Not even the chili oil that they have could save it. The crust also didn't do it for me, I love thin crust pizza, but it fell flat taste wise. The hubby ordered the carbonara and meatball sub which he enjoyed favouring more towards the meatball sub, but I wont spoil the details as he will be writing his own Yelp review. Overall, the concept is interesting, and offers up something new to the kanata area. I rarely venture out to this area of town so it will be unlikely that I will return. read more

Although this is a chain of restaurants, this location of Via Cibo is the only one in Ottawa. It is a different in that it's cafeteria style: you come in one door and right away you are facing the order counter. There are chalk boards hanging overhead describing the variety of foods, and all the while you are standing in front of the kitchen on a pathway that leads you to the cash where you order your food. The cashier gives you a number to put on your table, and brings the food to you when it's ready. If you decide to get desert after having eaten the main dish, you have to go through the whole process again, and that can be daunting when the lineup is long. But desert is quite tasty and worth the wait as the Gelato is excellent. As for the food, we ordered appetizers while we waited for everyone to get there: the bruschetta was pretty tasty, and the garlic bread - although it was on sort of flat bread, it was loaded with garlic and super tasty! For my main dish, they allowed me to add meatballs to my pasta. The pasta and sauce was ok (the sauce was a bit bland), but the meatballs were stellar! A bit spicy but oh so tasty! I would go back just for the meatballs. I would probably give this place a 3 1/2 stars, if only I could, but I've really got to validate that: We had our 2nd Yelp Ottawa International Supper Club event here which was a lot of fun!! The company we were with would be a full star just by itself! It was an intimate group of 8, and the ambiance of the restaurant was pretty good in that I could usually hear everybody. It was great to catch up in a casual atmosphere. Overall, we enjoyed it. Where is the meat? Err...I am mean flavour! Actually Via Cibo does exactly what you'd expect of a pasta, pizza and panini place. Though, the food might cater to a different crowd than me, I found the food to be on the bland side. First let's talk about atmosphere: We had a lovely gathering of yelpers at this great restaurants on a busy Friday night. We enjoyed great conversation while gorging in a massive amount of carbs, we were happy! The atmosphere you'll see is a bustling of families and dates. If you're looking for romantic, this is not your place. If you want quick Italian for a hungry family, I think this is your place. They also have gelato, big win for the kids I saw! Atmosphere was great for us! Let's get to the food, the food was just so-so. We started with the truffle fries which I thought had a lot of flavour, they came out piping hot and were well salted. Maybe they had a bit too much salt, but we were starving so we enjoyed them quite a bit. Since I was a bit hungry I ordered two meals, the carbonara and the meatball sandwich. The carbonara wasn't bad, but I felt it was missing some flavour. I don't eat carbonara much, so it's possible it was spot on and I just don't like carbonara. On the other hand, I enjoyed the meatball sandwich a lot more. It came on some nicely toasted yet soft bread, important for a meatball sandwich as you don't want the meatballs to fall everywhere as you bite. It could have had a bit more flavour, but it was fine. The only complaint I would have, is that is of felt like a Subway sandwich meatball sandwich but at $14. I think it is priced as a higher end restaurant, with fast food experience and food quality. Maybe I just don't see the value as much as a family would. Just keep that in mind when you go. Not bad, not amazing! It's unlikely I'll return mainly because there are better options for what I enjoy in the city of Ottawa. But if you're a family wanting Italian and gelato fast and are in Kanata, this would fill that void! read more

Visiting from Toronto; we were in a rush and had only about an hour to do dinner before an event @ Canadian Tire Centre. Although fast; we were in and out in 30 mins on a Saturday (yes, we ate like animals) it did; as others said; feel really crammed. It's a great concept, it works well, but the location I feel is just too small. Regarding the food; the pizza was good. It doesn't get anymore more authentic (in Canada anyways) than a hand built wood burning pizza oven; however that being said, my pizza dough was soggy and burnt (gonna go with an inexperienced chef being @ fault here). Caesar salad sucked too; but I expected that. It's good once in a while (we have a very similar chain in Toronto; that's what I will compare it to) but for the price this place is just meh. read more

Sorry very bad experience today. Used online order. And arrived to pickup food at designated parking spot. No one brought out prepaid order Called several times no answer except once said would bring out order in 10 min. 30min later after going in restaurant and waiting in line for 20min saw my order sitting on counter. Even manger looked at order several times and did nothing about it. Finally I pointed out my order and they apologized for the wait which was by now 1:45 from initial time of order. After getting home and checking the order the drink was missing and the linguine had chicken instead of steak which is on the original order. We used to love Via Cibo in Kanata. Unfortunately, the quality and service has gone down alot. We thought we would give it one more try this evening . But it was a disappointment . The food took over 45 minutes and other tables were being served before us and when our food did arrive it was cold . There was no Cutlery available and when I asked for Forks the waitress was very snippy and told me she had to go roll some and it would be 5 minutes . NFL I told her that our food was already cold and it would be even colder before she got back and she snipped at me again . My daughter asked for no cheese on her pasta and there was cheese mixed in so she couldn't finish it . The dish that I have every time is Chicken Park ​which I used to love but unfortunately the quality has gone down and the chicken cutlets were very tough and burnt on the edges and the pasta was overcooked. Nice little Italian staple at Kanata Centrum. It's a really convenient place if you want decent Italian food with a casual feel. We've come here to eat and get take out often and enjoy the food court type atmosphere though you never know if there will be space to sit down or not. The portions are good and the staff is friendly. Our latest foray included the bruchetta, margherita pizza and lasagna. We've also had the veal pasta, polpette (meatball) appetizer and a few of the paninis. We haven' t been disappointed yet. It is a little bit more expensive than you'd expect so be prepared to spend a little more here than other places around the area. read more

This is my go-to for a good quality lunch. Food is prepared fresh and with care. Staff are very knowledgeable about the menu and are very happy to help. I feel like I should be making commission on the number of people I've turned on to this place. My fav thus far is the carbonara. To die for. That and their little italian timbits (bombolonis) stuffed with nutella and served warm have contributed to the snugness of my pants. However, it is not inexpensive and is not fast-food quick. Lunches here are a busy, loud affair and you may not get a table but you will get some delicious food. read more

A revisit on early Saturday evening. I had previously upgraded my review of Mandarin, essentially because the experience adds to the food. With Via Cibo, it's the opposite. I won't go back for a while because, in this visit, the experience was awful. Same decor, same cramped feeling, but with lots of people opening the doors on a cold night, it wasn't homey at all. My pasta carbonara was fresh and hot on arrival. But it tasted like cream and pasta. I also found a piece of paper (much like the coated paper that surrounds a package of pancetta) about the size of a dime in my pasta. My son and I went for the gelato bar, as we have done before, but were told unless we had paid for it when we paid for the rest of the meal, that we would have to get in line again. (On previous occasions we awkwardly paid at the gelato bar, I think, now, because the nearby cashes were not busy.) On Saturday, the line had about a dozen people waiting to be processed. We declined. So if contemplating gelato, pay for it up front ( there is no help posted about navigating the system). People line up and decide on their meal choices as they approach the cash (as with Tosto) but the processing seems long, and inflexible. Sometimes you get water, sometimes you don't. You have to ask, I find. Overall, more disappointing than the food deserves - it is nicely prepared, if a bit bland, and comes to you hot and fresh. Other than that, the experience was confusing and clumsy. read more

She came spray clean the table next to where I was sitting. I confront politely that her cleaning spray is flying toward my food. her response was "my spray is nowhere near your food!" Ordered takeout penne carbonara and it was barely edible. There was significantly too much penne for the amount of sauce/topping, the egg was cooked and clumped up in the pasta. I really enjoyed the Pollo Alla Griglia, nice and warm with lots of food for the price. Tried the gelato and while it felt a little pricy is was super yummy compared to other gelato in the area. Friend had the Margherita Pizza and it was soggy and raw tasting in the middle but they quickly refired it and the slice I had of it was delicious. They told us though that it was supposed to be soggy and the early we liked it was considered overcooked so maybe say extra crispy if you decide on the pizza? Had to remove one star based on that but it's definitely worth the eat, especially for here in Kanata. read more

This place was a massive disappointment today. We ordered the children's parm for our daughter and the tomatoe sauce was so sour and salty i couldn't even bring myself to serve it to her. My husband ordered the beet and goat cheese salad with grilled chicken.... He could not cut through the chicken with a KNIFE, therefore that whole meal went untouched. We ordered the tuscan fries, they were fine but the piadina pollo pesto i ordered was so grossly prepared, the whole thing was literally one large wrap folded into two triangular shapes with all the ingredients (very little chicken and pepper) built up in the middl. I do not recommend this establishment at all I believe you're better off spending your money elsewhere I did take into consideration Covid transitions and the food industry however this level of pursuit service is not something that has to do with Covid it's really the fact that it was evident the food was either reheated old and or not prepared freshly read more
