This is likely the most unique pizza restaurant I've ever been to. We tried both Detroit and Tavern style (lots of leftover). +.5 for service Came here for the first time for dinner with a friend a few weeks ago. Wanted to try something new and told him Tommy's or The Grove. He settled with Tommy's as he was craving pizza. There's a large area for takeout orders, where you can see the chefs make the pizza. The dining area is at the room next door, and is not big at all, so reservations are highly recommended. It took me a while to decide what I wanted, as the Detroit Style Pizza was tempting. I eventually went with the Scotty Smokevitch, which consisted of pepperoni, sausage, and whipped ricotta. The pizza was quite uneven, which makes me think it was wood fired. It was still good though! Very flavourful, and the ricotta was actually a nice touch. Service was excellent here. I'll definitely return to try their items, including the Detroit style pizza. read more

Some of the friendliest service you can get in Winnipeg when it comes to restaurants whether it be sitting down or taking out. Tommy, the owner, has a very good taste and vision of Italian cuisine, the servers have excellent mannerisms, and the pizza selection is one that's to be explored. But what is impressive about Tommy is he always makes sure he meets every customer and that nothing goes wrong. My only issue was the price was way too high, each pizza around thirty dollars. We had high hopes for Tommy's. We came in at 5:15 and there were several empty tables but we were only offered the patio or a very busy high top table right at the entrance. The weather was cold for summer and windy. We agreed to sit in the patio although asked if an inside table came free to please let us know. The majority of time we were there, the indoor tables were vacant but reserved. It eventually poured rain on us and no one came to help us inside, but assisted a nearby table of four inside. We waited but ended up bussing our own table. When I enquired about why we couldn't have been seated inside through to the 6:45 pm reso (1.5 hours away from when we arrived) we were met with childish surprise, smirks and horror as this is not part of their policy. The two hostesses looked at us vacantly and laughed when I began to speak to another staffer. There were four staff there and not one of them apologized or understood our experience. As for the food. We had high hopes but the bruschetta was made from canned tomatoes. The calamari was good but very small serving. They were $22/23 each. The spaghetti and meatballs were nothing special and a very small portion for the price. The two pizzas were OK. The deep dish one seemed to have more canned tomatoes. I wish this place had more options in the appetizer section of the menu. Their pizzas look absolutely delicious with some unique flavors! As a starter we started with Pane Fritto. It was a very soft sort of dough with Parmesan cheese bits on the top, it was okay. Not great but still good. I just wish there was cheese inside of it. Then we decided to share one Pizza Poutine, it is the limited edition dish for Poutine week in Winnipeg. I liked the poutine but I found that it had a bit of a spicy kick to it. I wish it had been a little bit more cheesy. I definitely want to come back and try more stuff like the different pizza options. read more

This place was hopping when we went there recently and I am glad for the space has not had a consistent restaurant. The overall space has not changed if you remember it from gluttons and all the the other restaurants there after. This place is a pizzeria. That's all it serves and I was really looking forward to it. First we were not greeted with a menu or request for drinks after we were seated. It took a long 8 minutes or so before our server came to us. She never apologized for the wait but was very friendly so I let it pass. Anyways. We ordered the meatballs ($14) to start then two pizzas. But everything came out later and at the same time. So that's annoying as you're trying to eat your pizzas and your appy and everything felt just warm to start and not hot. Meatballs were very average. You get 4 all beef meatballs for $14 with whipped ricotta and garlic crostini. I like the flavour options of pizzas available here - there are a lot to choose from but I am not a fan of the crust. And I love crusts normally. It's a thinner style pizza but the crusts are pretty substantial and leans more to a baked bread taste then a chewy light crust I prefer. So I ended up leaving a pile of crusts (which I normally eat). The Audrey Meyer $23 is the truffle mushrooms, caramelized onions, arugula with two sunny side up eggs and balsamic glaze. A very delicious pizza. The Tommy's special $25 is sweet and has a hint of spice. It's a hot honey with mozzarella, burrata, prosciutto, arugula and lemon zest. I enjoyed this one as well but like I said the crust didn't do it for me. The restaurant when full is also on the very side so be cognizant of that if you don't like it super loud. But maybe go on a weeknight. Overall I liked the options of pizza flavours but the crust is not my personal liking due to the bready consistency. Hope they do well as it's nice to see that space filled up. read more

unreal Detroit style pizza. The Ray Lorne Detroit style pizza is amazing. Their regular crust pizza is solid, but its all about the Detroit style. Thick crust with great flavor, awesome toppings. Restaurant is very cool in design and I'm looking forward to visiting in a time when its safe to do so, but take out is great. One of my favourite pizza places in the city. read more

The pizza was AMAZING. I understand now why it won an award. The crust has an authentic char, just a little bit, and a really nice chew. High quality ingredients too. Dined at this restaurant for the first time last night, party of 3. Best pizza I think I've ever had. The pizza dough was like biting into light pillows of deliciousness.
