We enjoyed their featured Chongqing noodles with pork mince and peas and bok choy in a spicy soup, and the wonton noodles with spicy soup. Wonton serving bowl is slightly smaller than the Chongqing but still packs a heavy punch. There are many options on the menu and less spicy dishes as well. Would definitely recommend this for anyone in search of a delicious and reasonably priced meal.

We stopped in for a late lunch and fortunately the restaurant wasn't that crowded. The menus are almost entirely in Chinese so it can be difficult if you can't read... We both ordered combo meals and walked out stuffed! The price point was just right and everything was delicious. There are a few different combo options and one we got included a bowl of noodles (pick which one you want), steamed pork w/ rice powder, and bing fen (dessert). The noodles were spicy, a bit oily but oh so satisfying to eat. I could have done without the steamed pork but the bing fen was delicious. After a big bowl of spicy noodles on a hot day, it was a perfect way to end the meal - cool and sweet w/ a mix of different textures. This isn't a place over-run by tourists so it's a great place to grab some authentic noodles without too much of a wait. If I'm ever back in Melbourne, I'd definitely come here for a meal.

The menu is creative and provides a good description of the dishes along with photos. There isn't a huge selection but enough to choose from shoyu, tonkatsu, miso or spicy broth along with non-ramen dishes. I went with the Ol' Skool Deluxe, shoyu base which comes with duck slices (very original), an egg, bamboo shoots and a slice of fish cake with green onions. They have a cool imprint on nori too, great for advertising. The broth was light but good, noodles did not taste freshly made but were ok. Duck slices were a bit thick and chewy. It was a decent bowl of ramen but could improve the flavour by providing toppings and seasoning on the table. They did provide a bonito pepper flake that added some flavour. Decor is simple aside from a creepy samurai perched on a stool. They could use a bit more in the bowl and in the shop to bring me back again.

You get a pretty massive portion for $10 to $12.50 and it is very tasty for the most part. My personal favourites are the lemongrass chicken and the Palace Hot Bowl. It's not that fancy inside but the staff are very friendly, the service is quick and excellent and they play decent music. I mainly go and get a takeaway lunch. You get a ton of noodles for a decent price. And their spring rolls with plum sauce are pretty good too. It is far from mind-blowing but you would struggle to recreate the dishes for flavor and authenticity at home. It is one of the best places for quick noodles in Fitzroy. I'd choose Noodle Palace over the recently opened China Bar any day of the week.

Now that saying, I was tempted to try Nasi Goreng about a month ago and I gotta say it was pretty average. There was hardly any taste to it except for the soy sauce. That got me to thinking: Am I blinded by noodles? I really hope not. I'm going to trust my taste buds and proudly state that the Mee Goreng is still good. This place has also now got a sushi counter in the front window to get some more foot traffic. I've tried a roll in the past and honestly, they are not that great, which pains me to say, because I love this place and I really want them to be great.

Located a block from the AirBnb we were staying at, there was one on either side of the street! We checked out the menu and though noodle soup sounded delish for a windy/cool evening so we dropped in and grabbed a table. You order at the counter, there's not very many options, but you do get to choose the thickness of your hand-pulled fresh noodles! I saw some sides in the glass case as well, but the Signature Beef Noodle Soup is where it's at! I got mine with the "thicker noodles" which is like a rice noodle and was not disappointed. The broth was clear and flavorful, the beef was tender and the noodles tasted fresh and handmade. They were cooked perfectly and everything about this bowl was noodles was on point and fantastic. Why can't they have more places like this in the states?! Fresh high quality ingredients with amazing flavors. They don't specialize in a lot but what they do specialize in is the best of what they have to offer! I want another bowl as we speak and wasn't opposed to coming back here another night while we were in town. So many good eats to choose from though, so I never got the chance. The Spicy Beef Noodle Soup has a sichuan peppercorn spice to it, so if you don't like the tongue numbing sensation of peppercorns, stay clear cause there is a lot of it in that bowl! We got 2 bowls for "take-away", as the Australians would say, or "to-go" in the states and they packed it nicely for us in very sustainable plastic containers. The noodles and broth were kept separate so that you can mix and enjoy when you get home! They do charge extra for take-out and for to-go containers though, especially when you dine-in and don't finish! Seems to be the norm in Australia to pay extra for take-away containers, so don't be alarmed. Fun fact: I found this place on my handy dandy Yelp app!…read more Ambiance: One of the only real negatives this spot has is that it's pretty small. Don't come here with a large group or prepare to the disappointed. It's really popular as well, so expect a decent amount of people. I'd say come with 3 people max so you don't have to wait because my group just barely found some stools on the bar-table at the side. Customer Service: Positive! The lady who served us kept smiling and was very friendly. Additionally, I was expecting our food to come out pretty slow because of how crowded it was, but it came pretty fast. I would say 7 minutes approximately, which isn't a bad for a decent, filling meal. Food: Delicious and well-priced! You can get a large bowl of Shoyu Ramen for $10! Pretty good deal if you ask me. I'm also well impressed with their large portions - expect to be full and get the most value out of your meal. I had the Beef Curry, which came with Rice and a large Salad, all of which really hit the spot and comes highly recommended by yours truly! --- Perfect for a quick lunch/dinner. Nothing fancy, but still delicious, enjoyable, and good service to boot!

And then it came in a giant bowl and I thought, here we go! My excitement tapered down after each bite of the tonkatsu ramen. While there were heaps of veggies, one large (albeit tender) pork slice, and half an egg, the amount of noodles were just average, along with the flavour. Pork broth was a bit bland, lacking any sort of pepper or garlic spice. The noodles were definitely not made in-house and when mixed with bean sprouts, actually took away from the serving size. Toppings were an interesting choice, definitely not your traditional Japanese ingredients. Cabbage and button mushrooms although there was plenty of green onion. Just not tasty enough to make a dent. I can see this place being popular in a small town with no other ramen shops, but in a city like Melbourne, it's best to pay a little more and stick with the better establishments if you want a fulfilling dish of ramen.
