I did not know where to start, so I searched for someone that would be in my neighborhood. My search led to Kealoha and a lengthy discussion and dissection of my finances and tax situation. She gave me hope and I felt the up most trust with her, daughter Isabel and team. Unfortunately, my tax status hindered me with so many life opportunities due to the IRS's relentlessness but with Kealoha working with me continuously I did not feel doomed. Long story short, the extensive knowledge, seasoned experience, and true advocation of Isabel and Kealoha on my complex tax scenario was resolved. Every year I continue to use the team for my tax prep, and every year I am grateful for Kealoha and Isabel who really helped put that piece of my life back together. I speak to any small business owner, hard worker or corporate company that this firm has the tools, experience and professionalism to exceed your expectations.

I always over pay my taxes so there is no issue with owing the IRS. Obviously, I was fine with paying a retainer, but the brick wall person on the phone refused to connect me to a voicemail so I could simply leave a message. The person on the phone said I would not be able to get an extension filed with any of their staff and would not be allowed to leave a message for a tax professional. Apparently, the brick wall picking up the phone does not want the firm to have any more business for the rest of the tax season. Oh well, glad you all are doing so well that you turn away a client who will give you money now and in the fall when business is slow.

This firm went from exceptional to completely unprofessional overnight…read more I stayed with them for years solely because of Sam, who provided outstanding service. After the ownership change, it's clear that level of care is gone. What replaced it is a rigid, impersonal system that treats clients like transactions rather than relationships. They failed to notify clients of a major policy change regarding tax extensions until just days before the deadline--putting me at risk of non-compliance. When I raised concerns, their response was essentially: "This is our policy now, and if you don't like it, go somewhere else." No accountability. No attempt to fix the situation. No access to leadership. Just scripted responses from a support team. For a firm that benefited from years of loyalty and referrals, this is an incredibly poor way to treat clients. Avoid. UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO OWNER : Your response proves my point. After years of automatically handling my extensions, you changed the process right before a deadline, offered no real support, and told me to pay $240 or figure it out myself. Had I not followed up, I could have been penalized -- and now you're trying to turn it around and frame it as my fault by calling me "not engaged." After years of loyalty and referrals, this wasn't a transition -- it was a downgrade to a transactional model.

Chris at FlexTax has been my tax advisor for about three years now, and I can't recommend him…read morehighly enough. He's incredibly thorough and detail-oriented - he double and even triple checks everything to make sure your return is accurate and that he has all the right information. He's also very responsive and flexible with scheduling, which has made it easy to fit tax meetings around a busy workday. Chris really shines with more complex situations. He specializes in startups and equity compensation (ISOs, RSUs, etc.), as well as investment portfolios, so if you work at a startup or have a more complicated tax situation, you're in great hands. He takes the time to walk through everything, explains complex issues clearly, and makes the whole process feel much less stressful. He goes above and beyond by looking at prior years and making amendments if necessary to put you in a better position for future tax years. I originally started working with Chris based on a friend's recommendation, and after three years as a client, I'm very glad I did. If you're a startup employee or founder, or anyone dealing with equity and investments, I highly recommend Chris at FlexTax.

I regret hiring Meseret. I could have calculated my own returns in less time than it took me to…read moreplead with her (unsuccessfully) to fix the ~$5000 in mistakes she made. The problems all started when I found a mistake she made in our returns, which would have cost us $4000: she hadn't claimed an exemption for us even though I told her we qualified for it. She initially refused to discuss over email, forcing me to come in person where she didn't seem to understand what I was saying, and instead inflicted a confusing lecture about how we couldn't claim it (we can). My impression is that she was not familiar with this common exemption. She seemed pridefully unwilling to admit her mistake. After many more emails in which I pled with her to fix this error detailing the exact form and line, with links to the IRS instructions, she changed her story, implying that I must have had undisclosed IRA transactions and was therefore attempting tax fraud. It seemed like she was not aware that IRA contributions can be made retroactively, and that confused her. I finally provided her with detailed month-by-month IRA account statements showing the exact dates of those transactions from a decade ago, and she relented, and recomputed our returns. As a finale performance, she unnecessarily had us claim the full amount of a lifetime exemption (first-time home buyers'), even though we only needed a portion of it. This would have eliminated our ability to use the remainder in future years (costing us maybe $600-$1000 in the future). When I asked her to fix it, she incorrectly claimed that the exemption can only be used for our first house purchase (false), and she stubbornly inflicted another infuriating lecture upon me. I finally decided to quit wasting my time and file the returns myself. I didn't pay her hundreds of dollars to spend hours trying to educate her while she accuses me of fraud and gives misinformed lecture after lecture. Meseret has a lot of good reviews from people who I'd guess haven't ever double-checked her work before - or maybe those people don't actually exist. Please double-check her work, or better yet don't hire her in the first place. It might be a costly and time-consuming mistake.

We have not met in person though you can stop by his office to meet the staff and drop off documents. Bruce is funny and knows his stuff. What I love is that he not only knows his stuff and stays up to date, but he reads up on tax stuff that is specific to my type of business. I mean this level of personalized care should be expected right? But I can tell you from experience it isn't. And in my world, I have paid a lot for my mistakes or my tax person's mistakes. Im not a cookie cutter business and Bruce doesn't treat me that way. He looks at my business history, my business in the present, and helps me plan for the future. We talk about my goals for me, for my family, and for my future. He is a great resource to have, he has a wealth of knowledge to share, and his price is certainly reasonably considering how much you will save and learn. He works with my bookkeeper whose in the next door office, so my books are in tip top shape. Anyways, if you don't want to worry about taxes every April, tax planning with the right tax guy is totally worth every penny.
