Between Southern Counties Rescue and Petfinders I'm not impressed with either one…read more I was looking for a Nebelung cat to replace one that had passed a couple of years ago. I checked the Petfinders site and found one that my wife and I were very interested in. This led me to Southern Countries Rescue site. I filled out their rather extensive application and received a phone call a few days later to follow up on the application. It was implied that the cat we were looking for was in San Clemente, Ca.. I was on a trip and decided to see him at a pet adoption event at a pet store at the suggested location. I met with a pleasant woman and discussed the cat I was interested in adopting. She informed me that the cat is located in El Centro, Ca. and not San Clemente. That was a reason he's was not at the adoption event. However, she informed me that he was still available and that I would be notified later in the week for me to see him. I could either drive to El Centro or they might possibly bring him by my location in San Diego. I asked if I need to do anything else in the way of contacting someone to set this up and was told no, they would be contacting me later in the week. My wife and I had a short trip planned for 3 days and it would not impact meeting the cat. We arrived home sooner than expected in hopes of meeting the cat. No one ever called me or my wife nor did they bother to email me to let me know of any changes. I waited around Friday through Sunday but no one ever contacted us. I went back to the Petfinders website and the cat we were looking at was no longer listed on their site. I'm not sure if this is a standard practice for them but I will not recommend their organization based upon my experience with them. I mentioned early on that I wasn't happy with Petfinders either. The reason for this is I inquired about another cat in Northern California to adopt also. I contactEd the agency and never heard from anyone there as well. I checked their site later and the cat I was interested in was no longer listed on the Petfinders site. I realize Petfinders is a middleman for adoptable pets. I feel they should be required to vet the adoption agencies as stringently as agencies vet the potential pet owners. It would reduce the level of frustration experienced by those of us looking for a rescue pet. I'm beginning to understand why so many pets go un-adopted. I won't be utilizing anymore pet rescue sites after this experience.

So how the hell did I end up here? That's a good question! While out getting my drink on with lady friends, we were invited to join Gloria back to the hall for a brew. And at a dollar a pint, who could say no? Friendly bartender. Friendly people... probably because half of them were already drunk off the $1 beers. I don't see myself coming back here, unless, of course, Gloria decides to adopt me as her drinking daughter.

The psychiatrist I saw was willing to listen to my mental problems and I think June the therapist was a very sweet lady there to just listen which I can always appreciate. I really like the dentist I see. She and the assistants make me feel comfortable and they seem non judgemental. I have the nastiest teeth for a 32 year old. Tsk tsk on me. The substance abuse counselor, Mr. Felix was such a breath of fresh air. He went at my pace and we set realistic goals for my road to recovery. I will always choose their services over anyone else's except I'm in a program which means I have to see my program's psychiatrist only. Very good people and professional :)

Our families stayed in the health center, lodge, and electrified cabins, while our friends embraced the adventure of summer cabins and tents. The venue offers so many stunning spaces, from the spacious dining hall for meals to the stage/amphitheater with fire pits--perfect for s'mores and late-night stories. We exchanged vows at the top of a hill near the outdoor pavilion, with a gorgeous backdrop of pine trees and a view of Big Bear Lake in the distance. We were able to offer our guests camp activities like archery and a pool day, as well as had room to setup other activities like craft tables and lawn games. The biggest perk was the complete freedom to choose our own vendors, allowing us to create a truly personalized experience (huge shoutout to Scratch Kitchen for catering--our guests still rave about the food). We spent a year making signs, collecting décor, buying solar lights, and crafting to transform this Girl Scout camp into a full-blown wedding festival. Got the run around, they do not even understand ADA rules, including training, they are not trainers and have no experience in understanding how to evaluate a dogs abilities, they use fosters to give reviews. I asked if any of them had training certificates, no response. They quit answering my emails, I had made a donation to their rescue to help them as they are a non profit run by volunteers, after not liking my emails they refunded my donation with out my request, I asked for a call from a manager owner, even supplied them with my number, no response. Maybe the owner could call me. I would like to leave them a better review.

The animals are well cared for & love all of the staff. It was such a wonderful experience after trying to rescue dogs from other places. Desiree was so helpful in directing me to the right dog for me. I came in to see one, but her understanding & experience helped me to see we weren't the right fit. I ended up adopting a Chipin & love her very much. Never would I have looked at that breed for myself but, she is perfect for our family. Thank you for all of your hard work & love you give these animals. The adoption fees are reasonable. Especially because your dog will be spayed/neutered, chipped, and vaccinated. Any donations would be appreciated as well!
