My son started white belt a little over a month ago. Bashta Sr. and Jr. are incredible. Jr works…read moregreat with the younglings and serves as a really great role model. What I love about Sr. is that he keeps the kids IN CHECK! Martial arts starts with discipline and many of these young kids are bouncing around or talking or not listening to directions. I appreciate that Sr. keeps them in line. In fact I prefer it because it's so distracting to the other kids who really want to learn and the parents aren't telling their own kids to buckle up and stop playing around.

I have been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) at Bashta's for 5 months under Adam Laudano. BJJ is…read moreoffered 3 days a week and also 1 more day of open mat. The classes always start off with a 30 minute warm-up that includes a variety of cardio exercises and stretching. We then usually drill a new technique and/or practical self-defense for up to 45 minutes. Adam's instruction is very detail oriented and thorough. He won't let a single person go through class without being able to perform the technique well. He is respectful and is seemingly unlimited in his knowledge of BJJ. After drilling, we "roll" (spar) with each other for 15-30 minutes. I get the sense that i'm part of a "team" because everyone supports each other at regional competitions. Competing is encouraged as a means to grow skills and progress. No one is expected to win, only to learn. All of the students are very respectful and helpful. There is a variety of white belts all the way to black. The black and brown belts are extremely respectful and helpful to the other students. There is no pressure in Adam's classes, or feeling of judgment by others. The classes themselves are very informal, questions are encouraged at all times. My fitness has greatly improved overall from taking BJJ. I used to go to Planet Fitness 4-5 days a week and see much superior results from doing BJJ.

They introduced me to…read morePilates and helped me prioritize my physical health in a way that actually feels sustainable. I've learned that I enjoy working out so much more when I have a clear routine and structured workouts--and they're always thoughtful about making adjustments so each session fits my body and needs. The sole thing I cared about was rebuilding my atrophied leg, a symptom of extensive knee construction that had turned my quad, hamstring and calve into shadows of their original selves. I couldn't kneel, squat, lunge or even sit for prolonged periods of time without pain. Christina and Drew were thoughtful in their approach (which I now know is just how they operate). I think that they knew my goals would blossom as I felt more control over my knee recovery, and that's exactly what happened. Every week, we saw little gains and I found myself asking bigger questions, not just about my knee but about diet, mental health, routine, self-image, and mindfulness. Now, 15 months later, I feel physically strong. I feel disciplined and capable. I feel like I can trust myself to take good care of my body and brain. And most of all, I feel healthy even though 2020 has been an objectively difficult year for our world. In March, we shifted to Zoom because of coronavirus - I'm so grateful that I had their support during a time when mental and physical health was so important. They helped me transition to quarantine, work from home, home workouts, and a lot more cooking than I've ever done. If you need a team behind you, I highly recommend that you invest in yourself by working with Christina and Drew. Their training quality via Zoom is excellent and leaves me feeling strong, valued and connected!
