I recently visited this gas station in Middletown, Ct. Texaco, 302 East Main Street. I don't often…read morevisit this gas station, but I was in the neighborhood and needed gas and water. I pulled up and went inside to get a water and pay for gas with cash. While inside I watched as the man behind the counter went on to embarrass some poor young lady. She had held up her debit card and given the pump number to this worker. He kept saying AND? AND? AND? After a few times of asking AND? this young lady said that she would just go somewhere else. She had even offered to say please, thinking he was looking for a please from her. In the end he told her that she needed to tell him how much gas she wanted. I chimed in, politely, and asked the cashier why he couldn't have just asked her for the amount instead of the game he played. He said it wasn't his job to point out to her that she hadn't told him how much. I just said, wow, ok. When the woman walked out, she turned to me and thanked me. After she walked out, I went to get a bottle of water before paying for gas. The man behind the counter, the cashier of this gas station, loud enough for me to hear, said, "Fucking Black People"! I didn't say anything. I know better in today's world than to argue or try to point out something negative in a gas station, department store, restaurant, convenience store or fast-food establishment. It usually turns into a verbal altercation that ends in being kicked out of the store and told to never return. This is how customers are treated by many workers in many different businesses. I went outside to pump my gas, and the woman was in her car waiting to talk to me. She thanked me and then I told her that the man was a racist and told her exactly what he said. It was the right thing to do. She deserved to know what kind of man waited on her, embarrassed her and then made a racist comment about her after she left. If he was such a big tough guy he should have said it to her face. While we were talking the man came out of the store and asked what we were talking about. Before either could answer, he told us that both of us were never to come back to HIS store. I asked why. He said that he owned the store and it's his right. It is his right to ban any person from coming into his store. But I have never been banned from a store by the owner who had just made a racist comment about a black customer. In addition, I told the person who was the target of that racist comment, what he said. I have a sneaking suspicion that he was listening to our conversation by using the intercom system. I don't care if he listened. This man owns a business in the city of Middletown and is a blatant racist. I have never heard that come from the owner of an establishment. I have heard that kind of filth from people here and there throughout my life, but a business owner saying that makes it even worse. I feel for that woman. I just don't understand racism. He is of middle eastern decent, so I'm pretty sure that he would not appreciate any racist comment directed at him. He has probably heard it before. That person would be just as wrong as the man who owns the Texaco gas station on East Main Street in Middletown, Ct. This man should be ashamed of himself. He didn't need to ban me from his store; I would never return to that establishment for any reason. What an embarrassment.
