I went here as a day trip on a cruise, and we went through the tasting, a small tour, and a cooking demo. The tasting was easily the best part of the visit. I don't even know how many sips of rum we tried, but it seemed like we went through the whole shelf. It was just enough to get the flavor, so you're not likely to leave drunk. If you're in a rush, just do the tasting. There's many more flavors to try that you're not going to find in a liquor store. If I ever return to this island, I may have to return here just to buy a few more bottles.

Do not skip this fantastic attraction--it's absolutely worth every dollar spent! The experience is filled with interesting history and generous sampling of delicious rum. Toppers has the BEST rum cake I've ever had. Also, don't skip out on the gelato. The interactive, hands-on activities make the visit both fun and engaging. Our tour guide Julia was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. If you're a fan of rum or just looking for a unique and tasty outing, this is a must-visit!

We visited today on the fly and had a great time. My husband did the thum tasting with a lovely tour guide and I tried the gelato. We liked everything. You could see where the rhum was being packaged and the group that was on a tour was having a blast. Everyone was very nice and informative.

This place is a place to visit! I didn't want to go at first but once the tour got rolling and learning all the types of Rhums and the history it became interesting. They give you some Rhum punch that was very tasty and they take in the first where Cristina gave us history and showed us all the different Rhums they make. It's very hard to pick a favorite rhum. After that Cristina took us to another room where she used the rhum to make recipe with the rhum with pineapple and chicken,it was simple and very tasty. After the Rhum recipe we went to taste so many different rhums. They have a peach and habinareo rhum that will open you up, Soursop that taste like a banana. They have a place to eatand also make Gelato ice cream.

We enjoyed this tour of the distillery during our visit with Saint Maarten. The tour guide did a great job with providing the history of the Rhum (yes they spell it like this in Saint Maarten), the distillery and their process. It was plenty of Rhum samples given along with gelato and chicken. I would recommend this as an option when you visit the island!

We came back because our last visit was amazing. Today's food was not good. We got 4 appetizers. Crab mushrooms, shrimp cocktail, kamikaze kalamari, and tuna cones. Tuna was good. Cones were hard. Calamari was flavorless even though it was drenched in a sauce. Service was good. Love the location and ambiance just disappointed about the food

This tour 10 It was our first tour on the island and I'm so glad we stopped! The gentleman was friendly and informative! He run alittle long on his first tour and we started late but I understand he is very likeable and personable! Felt like we run into a ole friend that started a new venture! The rum was delicious and so many flavorful choices. It's a quaint affair at this shop but we where told they have a 7000sq feet space elsewhere to put out this product all over the world! If in Sint Maarten make time for tour, we walked in and booked our own tour and afterwards had dinner in the restaurant area!

I have traveled to many countries and islands in the Caribbean and this is definitely the best distillery tour we have ever been on! (And that includes visiting several tequila factories in Mexico, a vodka distillery in Hawaii, and the Bacardi tour in PR.), We actually stopped by Topper's restaurant on Welfare Road first and we met the gregarious Topper. We had a quick rum drink at the bar and the very friendly bartender gave us a flyer for a free mini bottle of rum when we got to the tour. (Topper actually offered to drive us, but we weren't too sure about getting in the car with someone we just met!) We walked about 1/2 mile down the road and found the actual distillery. It is a nice, new, modern building, but there wasn't much signage out front. (If we weren't looking for Topper's Rhum Distillery; we probably would have passed it by.). The lobby had a gift shop, as expected; however there is also a gelato counter. They had dozens of flavors and we decided to have some gelato before the next tour started. (The gelato was good & we found out later that they bake their own waffle cones and infuse some of the gelatos with their rum.) There were just 3 couples on our tour, and our extremely friendly, funny, personable host, Christina, made it a point to have everyone introduce themselves & then she called us all by our names. She also told us her story of how she had been with Topper's for over 15 years.....starting as a server in the restaurant. She gave us a colorful history of rum and let us each choose 2 flavors of the dozens of small batch flavors they had. ( I chose "caramel pineapple" and "sweet almond." Both were good; but I especially liked the "sweet almond,". It had an amaretto flavor. My husband had the "strawberry jalapeño" & "Elvis" which was peanut butter & banana flavored. He like both as well. (It was a tough choice picking just 2 flavors! There were dozens including: "gingerbread man" "marshmallow,". "Blueberry pomegranate," "lemon tea," "PB&J," and "Peeps." After tasting the small sample batches we got to try 4 of the mass produced flavors: white chocolate raspberry, coconut, mocha mama, and banana vanilla cinnamon. They were all 4 delicious and we also got to sample chicken breast that had been marinated in the white chocolate raspberry & some delicious rum cake! There were a few more stops with even more tastings and finally a visit to the bottling room. The entire tour lasted about 2 hours, and it was well worth the $25 tour price. I highly recommend this tour if you like rum! They are also in the process of adding a restaurant towards the back of the distillery.

We did the Rhum distillery tour and it was fantastic- interesting history of Rhum and the process used at Topper's. The tour was about 1.5 hours. Cristina made it fun! Ate dinner at the restaurant- loved the view, very relaxing. The server and bartender were full of energy and the service was great! There were 6 of us. The food was delicious and the sorbet (white chocolate raspberry for me) was delicious! Would definitely return.

THIS IS A MUST! I visited this establishment with friends my first day in St. Maarten. We did the $25 Rum Tour w/ Christina and it was well worth it. Christina allowed for hands on crowd participation from some lite cooking to bottling the liquor. It made the tour more interesting. There were tons of samples and pairings long the way. The owner even popped in to say hi to the group. He was a very fun and friendly gentleman. At the end of our tour we got to sample some of the specialty flavors. We liked it so much that we came back for rum cake and gelato days later. The gelato was so good that we were asking if driver to stop just about every time we drove by.
Can't come to a Caribbean island and not do a rum (rhum) tasting tour. We arrived and were greeted with a welcome cup of rhum punch. I'm not a fruity drink person, so it was a bit too sweet for my taste--I could really taste the fruit juice. That said, this experience was much more than I expected. I thought it would just be a few rhum tastings and that's it, but it turned into a full experience: a history lesson, cooking and food tasting demonstration, and even a chance to participate in the rhum bottling process. Christina, our "rhumologist," kicked things off with tastings of the signature rhums, followed by a cooking demonstration featuring chicken cooked with tropical rhum, plus samples of rhum cake and gelato. We wrapped up with tastings of the specialty rhums. My favorite was the jalapeño lime rhum--so good that my husband and I ended up buying a bottle. The tour lasted about 1.5 hours and flew by. Overall, a really cool and memorable experience in St. Maarten. read more

I visited Toppers during my visit to Sint Maarten in late July. We purchased the tour and wanted to also try the restaurant. When we arrived we had to ask a few people where to go to check-in. Once that was completed we had a few minutes so we sat and waited. While waiting I noticed that the space was large, bustling and every corner was occupied which something related to Rum. We were given a portion of Rhum punch which was our welcome drink. The tour started at 1:30, the description said we would get to try 20 flavors. I quickly realized that these were tiny tastings ... just enough for a taste (not an even close to a shot). Our guide gave an explanation in conjunction with her own jokes and introduced just about everything in the gift shop which was super annoying, people will buy things if they want them but honestly this felt like heckling. The "tasting" was a bite of Caribbean chicken and a tiny spoonful of their rhum ice cream. The tour was cool but overall underwhelming. We then went and had lunch in the restaurant and it was slow. We took a seat with a bay view. We opted for an appetizer and shared entree. The shrimps was really good, a large portion with good flavor. The chicken with teriyaki left many things to be desired. The chicken was bland. The teriyaki was nothing special. The sides (mashed potatoes and broccoli) needed salt and pepper. The service was also slow and inattentive .. there were only 3 parties present. Overall lunch was just ok. read more
Stopped at Toppers Rhum During an island tour. My favorite was the coconut rum. We received a rum Tasting. They also sell gelato and I purchased a small cup of strawberry shortcake gelato before exiting. read more

Came here for the tour, which was cool and informative, but there is also a very nice restaurant. Every employee was so nice. I seriously felt like I was hanging out with friends rather than taking a distillery tour and having lunch afterwards. I am a bit of a history nerd, but some folks just kinda drone when telling you about a place. Not here. Great stories, great energy, just fun. Now, the rum. Or rhum as the local spell it. I have had more than my share of rhum over the years, but I'm my gosh, all these flavors??? So amazing. Even the peppermint rhum. They also did a cooking demonstration with one of their things to make an amazing chicken dish. Now to the restaurant. Our food was included with our tour package, but checking over the menu I was surprised how reasonable the prices were, especially for a touristy location. The seating area was clean and bright, and the seating was super comfortable. And the food. Oh, so good. They make the barbecue sauce with their rhum too. And then as we were leaving, my wife and I got to meet Mr. Topper himself. Just a really nice guy, loved to talk about the place, answered all of our questions, even told us how to make the barbecue sauce ourselves when we got back home. Just a guy who loves life and wants everyone to have a good day. If you are on St Martin ever, you owe it to yourself to go to Toppers. read more

A short but action packed afternoon activity. Sampled 18+ rums and the signature rhum cake in about thirty minutes, and had a wonderful time chatting with our delightful host Patrician! So many delicious rum flavors and they're really smooth, making the experience enjoyable for a more casual alcohol drinker like myself. read more

We visited toppers to do the the $5 rum tasting and grab some gelato and icecream and the did not disappoint. The young ladies that work there are so friendly and educated on everything that's produced in there. You can watch them bottle their own rum for sale also, majority of the gelato's are made with the liquor they produce and the flavors go extremely well together. If you're not into alcohol there's those that made plain, my fav is the soursop. You can grab a bite to eat at the back restaurant that's over looking the water. Overall it's a one stop shop for good liquor, sweets and souvenirs. read more
I did a group tour of Topper's while in Sint Maarten and had a lovely experience all-around! Our tour guide was incredibly personable and the trip came with a number of complementary rum. The distillery boasts a number of flavored rum that could be purchased only at that location, so we loaded up a few bottles for the trip home! A great experience, and a must for anybody visiting Sint Maarten. read more

Toppers is a pretty chill spot on one of the main thoroughfares of the Dutch side of St. Maarten. The food was rich and heavy, just like I like it. The staff and owner/managers were really pleasant. It looks sort of like a dive bar with karaoke on certain nights but it's worth the stop for food and drinks. Beware: The outer tables are really close to where cars sometimes park. On my visit I got a little love tap from the front bumper of Suzuki driver. When I turned to give him an incredulous look, he laughed. I wasn't amused but it wasn't the fault of the establishment. read more

I have no idea how one can possibly visit St. Maarten and not visit Toppers Rhum! Seriously, there is yummy rhum for days! We signed up for a tour (only $25USD per person) and ended up being just the two of us so we felt super VIP. Kristy was our tour guide and she is amazing! She is so well versed in not only the history of the rum but also the island and the industry. So your tour starts in a classroom where you get to sample what they have on the market plus some of their private blends. I won't lie, some of them seem pretty crazy but they were all DELICIOUS! I highly recommend Elvis Rhum - which you guessed it, tasted like peanut butter and banana. It was awesome. You then move into the kitchen for a little cooking lesson and then you sample what is quite possibly the best Rhum Cake on earth. It is so fresh and made right there onsite. Moving on you see the actual distillery side where they are hand bottling, hand labeling, and hand packaging their products. They were super busy but it was super exciting to see. I truly can't say enough good things about how great Kristy and the rum was! We sampled every single thing we wanted. It's also the perfect place to buy souvenirs to take home. My only regret is not staying to have dinner at their restaurant. C'est la vie, I guess this will be my reason to return to St. Maarten in the near future. read more
A must stop and visit when in Sint Maarten! We decided to have a lunch here and come back for a distillery tour later. The foods were absolutely delicious. The service was very friendly and warm. Such amazing and friendly staff. On my first day here I did the rhum tasting with 16 different flavors and they were all great. My guide, Candice, was super sweet and gave very entertaining stories for the different flavors as well as the origin of the distillery. I even got to meet Topper himself and get a picture with him. The next day I came to try the restaurant. I got an awesome seat right by the window with a beautiful ocean view. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but I couldn't after our experience with the food. The fettuccine alfredo was amazing but the shrimp and salad weren't the best. The shrimp kebab along with the potato and broccoli it came with weren't bad just majorly lacking flavor. The asian chicken salad was extremely unpleasant tasting. It looked very good but once we tried it we realized it had a very bad aftertaste which ruined the whole meal itself. Our kind waitress, Carol, replaced it for us and made sure we were satisfied by the end of our dinner. Overall, I would come again for the rhum but not for food. read more

We had so much fun touring around the little bottling area and sampling so many flavors!! 25 is a rough estimate of how many samples! Deliciously smooth, their rhum (old french spelling) can be drank with no mixer, or used as a mixer itself! Its a must do for all tourists. read more

Nice ambience and bay breeze. Food was mediocre and my friend's mahi mahi sandwich was inedible with too many bones. The server never checked back to see if everything was fine, so she wasn't even given, nor offered another dish. So, finally, when the server did return, nothing was comped nor even offered. Our request for a comp was refused and a measly percentage ($2.79) was taken off the sandwich only, even though nothing was eaten! Very poor management. read more

Visited this location from the cruise port. Carnival does not offer this tour as of yet, but needs to add it to their shore excursions. We took a 25-30 minute taxi ride to this location. We arrived and joined a group of German tourists for the tour. Dave was our guide and was outstanding. He provided an explanation of their distillery process which was very informative, but the most important thing was the tasting. We tasted all of their rhum selections and all were very tasty. The original and the coconut were our favorites. The have a delightful rhum cake, that is a definite must try. They sell clothing, gift items and let's not forget rhum. After the tourist group departed and we completed our purchase we inquired about the Topper's restaurant. Dave explained the cuisine and provided great details of the local culture. Dave is a Canadian that has found a new home in this great Caribbean location. He was gracious enough to give us a ride to the Topper's restaurant. Dave is okay by us! Please check out this location when in St Martin and enjoy! All cruise lines please add this tour to your shore excursions immediately! read more
