The breakfast of fresh fruit with fresh baked Italian breads and croissants and fresh honeycomb overlooking the valley was dreamlike . Barga , is about a 10 minute drive through fairytale landscapes to a multitude of restaurants and trattorias , charming is an understatement . I would highly recommend this fantastic hotel . We went back to the front desk and said something esp since it was our honeymoon and they were kind enough to upgrade us to a terrace view. I will say if you stay here take advantage of the free breakfast but go out of town for lunch and dinner. We did dinner at the resort the first night and waited an hour once seated to order... you can go to the cute town in barga to go out to eat. Many delicious food we found and cute bars. The rooms are very nice! We did a couples massage one day and loved it. Love the vibe at the pool also. Will be back for sure!

CINQUE TERRE, ITALY LA TORRETTA LODGE - MANOROLA…read more UP FRONT: When you visit Cinque Terre in Italy, (literally "five lands"), you have five choices on where to stay out of the five fishing villages. If you're like most tourists, you're going to visit all of them, but one has to be your "home base". After visiting all of them, I think your best bet is either Manorola or Monterosso. The scenery in both places is astounding. Manorola is small and quiet and has some cliffs you can dive off at the bottom of the hill. Monterosso is a bit more sprawling and has a good stretch of beach. We stayed in Manorola two nights. Got the tip about La Torretta on Trip Advisor. This hotel is a dream. From start to finish, it felt too good to be true. Check in was a breeze - it was only us in the lobby - and we sipped Prosecco on the patio while the front desk copied our passports and finished up the paper work. Our room #7 was at the very top with the most breathtaking view (see photo). Bed was very comfortable, and the bathtub (we didn't use it) is literally the biggest I've ever seen - HUGE. No problems with the room - temperature control was good, mini-bar was complimentary. Be aware there is no phone in the room, and if you need something, you need to go down the steps to the office or call down from the window as you see the hotel staff moving about the property. lol. I did that once, we needed towels for the room, but no phone, so I just called out to the maid while I was standing on the balcony. It worked. The hotel sits on top of the hill. You walk down the hill to all the shops and restaurants. There's everything you need, ATM machine, train station, pharmacy, and more. At the bottom of the hill is the ocean, no beach, but there are places where you can lay out and many people do. There's also swimming allowed and the water is so cold and refreshing. You can dive in from many areas, and climb to the cliffs where you will be afraid to jump, but do it, it's so much fun. It took me 15 minutes to get enough courage to get off the cliff, but with the encouragement of fellow cliff divers, I was able to do it. Kept going back up to the top to do it again. There's breakfast in the mornings, all kinds of goodies - meats and cheeses, croissants, pastries and of course coffee. The hotel staff work hard to make sure you have everything you need. But keep in mind, they are not at the front desk 24/7. They close at 9:30 PM and they weren't clear about that when we checked in - neither did they say there was no phone in room. When we left, we were taking a train at the bottom of the hill, and they brought our luggage down with a golf cart. All the good things that have been said in the reviews are true - nothing hyped up about this place. Worth every dollar we spent on the room. Coming in on the offseason, we were still greated by a concierge who met us at the bottom of the mountain, and drove us up to the wonderful views that Manarolla had to offer. We checked in, but before that, we were given gifts of food and champagne to celebrate our arrival there. The view was outstanding, and the hosts were more than generous. They talked with us about where we had been, where we were coming from in the United States, and also about what else we had planned. To top off how great of a stay we had... they gave us an upgrade to the honeymoon suite for free! The room was absolutely gorgeous! A giant tub in the room, fiberoptic lights in the ceiling, and a gorgeous breakfast spread for nothing?!? It was amazing. To truly make it, what it was... as much as everyone always wants to be connected to the world... I was glad that I could not get any wifi at the hotel. It was nice to finally be away from everything, and not to be bothered by anything or anyone. We were left alone... to be alone. Waking up and taking in the view from our hotel room left us enjoying the beautiful views of the sea. Not to mention a nice little gift of bottle of champagne that was waiting for us once we got back from visiting the rest of Cinque Terra area.... as the concierge said... This place is about 30 minutes outside of Florence which we made that drive twice, once to explore the city and once to do a guided wine tour that left from Florence. The sunset here was beautiful, the room was clean, and the staff was so nice. We got massages in the spa as well and they were incredible. If you want to feel like you're experiencing the beauty of Tuscany I would recommend this place to anyone.

The shower controls have a safety button to keep one from blasting hot water but even a full tilt the water is just lukewarm. Unprofessional.

Unfortunately, we weren't prepared for the curvy roads and we had rented a huge SUV (Italy is not made for big cars!!), so that made our stay more stressful than it had to be because I feared anytime we had to drive / leave the premises for the winery, dinner etc. The staff was unbelievably generous and understanding when we adjusted our plans to only stay 2 rather than 4 nights, and we could not be more grateful. This is another property many have a difficult time finding due to it being a new property and off of a dirt road and up a hill. A kind local Italian gent steered us in the correct direction. We had a very relaxing stay at this property. We took day trips to Florence and Sienna from this location. Built March 2019, this property once a private residence is now modern luxury resort in Tuscany. The rooms are brand new and spacious, we had a suite with dining and living room. We had a whirlpool hot tub in our room but never got the chance to use it, used the pool instead. The pool and outdoor dining spaces were thoroughly enjoyed. There are mosquitoes on the property as in much of Tuscany region, they have bug spray if you need it, and a plug in electric bug repellent. We noticed many got good rates, ours was higher due to booking last minute and also requesting a suite. Parking and Breakfast are included. Both nights we chose to dine at the property which is not inexpensive. One night was stellar, the other just so so. Breakfast was adequate, the scrambled eggs were too rich, I think they were made with heavy cream, the granola and jams were outstanding.

After a very hot sleepless night we told them the issue and they brought my parents the smallest fan in the world. And came and fixed our dial so it would work. Once again we had to complain. They moved my parents and friends rooms to bigger rooms with ac. Thank God! That first night I noticed ants on my bed so I brushed them off and tried to sleep. When I won't up at 4 I found bug bites all over my legs. I was grossed out and told my parents. One of the bites had been a spider and a part of my hip was huge. On the second night we found more bugs. And they never came to clean our rooms or give us new water bottles. Finally on the third night I woke up to more bugs in my best and I found there was a hole in the wall with them streaming out of it. I complained and they said they would take care of it. Before I left the bugs were still there and no one helped us. The outdoor pool is beautiful but there are not enough chairs to accommodate the amount of people staying here. The pool bar is not good there was a bartender who put sugar in my drinks that should never have sugar in them. My family made a reservation to go to dinner at the main restaurant. We got caught up in Siena and we canceled the reservations. They charged us a service fee to our room even though we did not eat there. The fee was like €15 a person. We had breakfast each morning and the first morning the kitchen was closed but the staff did not tell us for over an hour after we ordered eggs. If they had just said we do not have a way to cook it we would have moved on with our lives but instead we sat and waited for our food for too long. The stuff seemed mad and annoyed constantly and the servers were not helpful or attentive. The indoor pool was closed through out our stay. They used the small Church outside our building as a Laundry room. Very rude. I have traveled with my family for many years and I can not tell you how unhappy I am with our stay. We did not get what we expected from the Hilton name and as a points member I could not be more disappointed and dissatisfied. We will never return and that's quite sad because we wish to attend the Palio again. Get more staff, get red of the bugs and fix your staffs attitude. The only thing good was the pizza place even though we had to calla waiter over to take our order the food was lovely. The out door pool is nice. The only one to be helpful to us was Julia she tried so hard to help us with our troubles.
