The staff is first class and they thoroughly understand the premium products they are selling. Stopped in today for a what should be a simple purchase of a basic brand of brandy. On the way to the brandy, the aisles were blocked by stockers using their staircases on wheels. I practically had to beg to get by, and they made no effort to move, let alone apologize. So back to that brandy. They didn't have any. (Juice and soda mixers you can buy at a grocery store, but they also have a great selection of unique mixers like ginger beer). Simply put, they have the best prices, best selection, and most knowledgeable staff. People in the store care about and know about what they are selling. Understand that Covid has people nervous but I have gone there twice to pick up wine and while the floor help was exceptional, the cashiers were the most unhappy, unsmiling nasty attitude people I have experienced. Total wine is not the Least expensive place to go but I don't mind paying premium pricing for a Good bottle. I will not be back to this store ever! RUDE/OPPRESSIVE I came here with my wife, who is 28 and I am 27. She left her purse at home because I would be doing the purchasing. After finding all the perfect things, at checkout we were told they needed to see both of our ID's. We explained to them that she was my wife and left her purse at home and that I was purchasing for myself. They did not allow under any circumstances for us to purchase the alchohol even if she left. So we went to a different total wine, my wife had to stay in the car as if we're in the oppressive middle East or something. I ran in to find the same perfect things and they didn't have them. I don't understand this rule. It should be the purchaser responsible for buying drinks for underage people, not the grocery store. If I go buy booze at CVS, I don't have to send my wife or kids or friends out of the store. If I were to purchase alchohol for an underaged person, that should be my responsibility. The staff seemed rude, they also seemed to always be watching us (she has tatoos and dark hair, I have long hair). The manager was also called over almost instantaneously to make sure we would leave. Stopped in to buy some wine for an event I was having at my house. My 19 year old son and his girlfriend were with me as they wanted to see what the store was about. Had 6 bottles of wine at the register and the cashier questioned if I was the legal guardian of both 19 year olds. I said "just my son but not his girlfriend." Well, she wouldn't let me purchase the wine. The cashier was beyond giddy to call the manager over and not sell me the wine. She was so proud. What an utter joke. I've never met such Social Justice Warrior Fools in my life. Don't shop at this place. Spend a few more bucks and support your local Liquor shop. #Idiots read more

Came in to the store with my adult daughter 23 and adult niece 20 after getting ice cream in town. I was making a large purchase for a business party. Staff refused to sell to me because my niece was not of age! Accused me of contributing to a minor! I was shocked, embarrassed and offended. If you want to know about great Tequila, ask expert Steve Prokesch who works at the Chanhassen location on some weekends. I approached Steve as he was offering several different spirits. I told him I wasn't real familiar with Tequila and wanted to learn more. He was gracious enough to spend quite a bit of his time walking me through the different brands at his table. This is my go to for all my wine and craft beer. The prices are unbeatable and the staff is most always courteous. When I'm browsing I often approached asking if I need suggestions or assistance and the staff does seem pretty knowledgeable about wine. I like that they offer tastings and the whole store and staff seems very professional. Also a great place for gifts around Christmas time. read more

Just decided to give it a try and stop by to see the selection. Stopped by around 8:00 today. The old guy that assisted me was way less than helpful. He was more than a little over giddy on the group ID rule in a rude way that rubbed me worse than most(almost in a way that seemed to discourage a sale...is the job that bad???) idk I shook it off and then was told in a rude condescending way to remove the bottles from the make your own six pack something that could've been simple for him but he acted as though I was giving him an impossible task to complete. Always a negative experience with the cashiers. I'm in my mid 20's and always present my driver's license to the cashiers. I have received nothing but rude stares and condescending comments. My last visit, the cashier couldn't do the math and did not believe that I was in my mid 20's. I LOVE Total Wine...great prices and fun to browse. I generally shop the Bloomington or Chanhassen stores and have not had any issues with customer service...most of the workers and cashiers are helpful and friendly. I only really have ONE COMPLAINT, and that is that in recent months they rarely have more than a bottle or two left on the shelf of the Sutter Home White Merlot...it's always gone, or almost gone in the 1.5L size. I drive out of my way to buy a case or more at a time, but never can anymore due to unavailability...even way up on top where they keep extra stock. AND they don't offer much in the 1.5L size of other Sutter Home flavors that I could use to fill in a case...it would be GREAT if they would carry Chenin Blanc (Yum!), Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio! And carry a larger quantity of White Merlot 1.5L PLEASE!!! I despise having to go to MGM (rude managers and more expensive) to get Chenin Blanc and White Merlot from Sutter Home (which is the BEST brand in these two flavors!) Did an online order and went to pick it up today. Walked through the main door, passed directly in front of the customer service guy at the booth, and proceeded to stand waiting at the desk while he was looking at something on his computer related to stats (as I could see some graph on the screen since I had nothing better to do than stare at what he's doing). Next, the phone rang. Instead of coming to assist me (who has been waiting for at least 4 minutes now), he answered the phone and proceeded to help that person. I'm like, what the? I stared at other Total Wine people at the registers wondering if I was completely invisible to the world. No one offered assistance. Finally, after that call he asked if he could help me . . . I'm like, uh yeah, thanks - I'm here to pick up my order. Total lack of customer service on all levels - no acknowledgement, no greet, no smile, no speed in assisting customers. My family (husband and I, 2 adult girls and their boyfriends) dined at Houlihan's in Chanhassen this evening. Following our meal we decided to run next door to Total Wine to grab a few things. We were enjoying checking out the gift items, glassware, etc. as each were grabbing the items they were looking for. Pretty quickly, we realized we were "on the radar" of management, and other staff members. As well-earning, 'clean cut' sort of folks, my husband and I have NEVER experienced anything like this. Our girls have tattoos, as do their boyfriends and suddenly, we were being watched closely, constantly checked in on, basically on the surveillance. I am very disappointed to be a victim of profiling, which is essentially what we experienced. So, here is my advice, if you have a different, more alternative 'look' (or those you're with) maybe steer clear of Total Wine and head over to the always friendly and always welcoming Haskell's. You won't be disappointed and if you're a price shopper, you will be pleasantly surprised. read more

Went in tonight to pick up some drinks for our thanksgiving get together, there was a man and a woman in front of me. Heard the man ask the cashier about the id policy and the cashier got super defensive, the woman piped in that there had been an issue for the previous day and that it was alot to deal with. The cashier didnt even let her finish, told her she refused her service...i will not be going back there, woman looked shocked. I think we all were. We had a very disappointed visit to Total Wine tonight. We had a party going and ran out of beer. We sent people up to get more beer before they closed. Apparently they stocked all the new beer in front and didn't rotate the stock, so when we got our beer out of the cooler it was all room temperature and didn't realize it util we got back to the party. The manager at this store wasn't sympathetic and could care less they were selling warm beer out of their cooler and offered no solution. I was very disappointed and shocked at the lack of interest the manger of this store showed when expressing my concern. I will not shop here again as the other liquor stores near by will give better quality service. DO NOT shop at this store!! All they care about is your money in their pocket. read more
