I visited this location on April 28 in the afternoon (around 12-1 PM) at Market Center, 1232 Greenbrier Parkway, Chesapeake, VA. I am an Uber driver and briefly pulled into the curbside pickup area while completing a pickup. An employee named Lucy approached me in a very aggressive and unprofessional manner. She raised her voice, pointed her finger at me, and told me I would be "banned" for parking there. While I immediately moved my vehicle once informed of the policy, the way she communicated was very confrontational and felt threatening. Afterward, I asked to speak with a manager about the interaction. I was directed inside, where I spoke with a manager who confirmed the curbside policy regarding Uber drivers. My concern was not the policy itself, but the employee's tone, body language, and overall behavior. I also noticed that shortly after this interaction, a white male driver pulled into the same curbside area and did not appear to receive the same treatment or confrontation. As a Black woman, this raised concern for me and left me feeling uncomfortable about whether there may have been unequal or biased treatment in how the situation was handled. I am also a regular customer at Total Wine & More, and I was disappointed by this experience. It's been a while since I've dropped a review on this Total Wine & More, located just off Greenbrier Parkway in the heart of Chesapeake. This store is much bigger than the previous place. The staff is friendly and helpful if you're looking for something really special or they will let you just explore. I sometimes prefer to do that unless I'm in a big hurry. The website is very accurate with the stock on hand. Once you check out and you pick your pickup time. Then it's time to go. I head over the parking lot at Chesapeake is always a challenge. Smaller sized Total Wine and after a little bit of looking, I found the non-alcoholic section. My wife is 26 years sober and while she has no problem with me drinking beer or even keeping beer in the fridge, she obviously wants her own beers to drink. Yep. Harris Teeter will usually have one or two brands but here's the real variety. And you can even mix and match to try the stout and the IPA and the lager. All non-alcoholic beers. Not a go to due to location, but I've been here a few times. Even though it's a much smaller floor plan they make up for it in customer service. The location is off Greenbriar Parkway a block opposite the mall. It's on a corner with decent signage. The lot is small, but adequate. The last time I was here was when I was in search of a rare beer that was sold out in my usual TW Laskin store. I was referred here by a Laskin manager. I called and customer service over the phone was excellent! They informed me a delivery was on the way, but no specific time. I confirmed before noon most likely. I arrived around 1030 and asked to speak to the manager regarding the bottle I was to pick up. Unfortunately the truck had yet to arrive, but was due soon. I had no problem with waiting and browsed the store. The selections are good, not great with a smaller floor plan. They have beer, wine, cigars in a smaller quantity. Around thirty minutes and the beer truck arrived with rare Firestone Walker Prabola. About five minutes later the manager had a line form with others wanting the same beer. Everything was handled orderly. Checkout was smooth and I was on my way 45 minutes later. I know, that may seem like a long wait. But in this situation I knew the time frame and was willing. The staff here is super friendly and always helpful if they see me wandering. It doesn't matter what time of day, I know I can always ask a question and nobody ever seems bothered. I frequent this Total Wine because it is close to where I work and closer to home compared to the bigger one at Hilltop. I do wish it were a bit bigger so they'd have a wider selection to choose from. It can also be a pain to get into the parking lot just because of how it is positioned in the shopping center. This Total Wine is always clean and fairly well stocked with their selections. I haven't run into too many occasions where they were out of stock of what I was looking for unless it was the blood orange Ace cider, but everyone in the area was really out of that because it was becoming popular. I believe this is also the location I got signed up for rewards as I had been shopping at Total Wine for years and was asked repeatedly if I was a member and the answer was always "no," until an employee took the time to get me signed up and it took all of 2 minutes. I actually appreciated that. I never buy 12 bottles, but it's still the thought that counts and I like getting the coupons and the emails. Keep up the great work guys! read more

I like this total wine because one it's close and number two the staff is very good. While the store is smaller than some of the other locations they have everything you need and a whole bunch of stuff you don't. Craft beer selection as wide and varied. They have enough wines so that you can try new one every day of the week and never run out. If there something special you want to just talk to a staff member and they can order it at no additional charge. Wine tastings weekly which is a nice way to save yourself some money and stop from buying a bottle you just won't like. Parking can sometimes be a challenge as there are a lot of businesses in this area. However, that shouldn't stop you from coming and doing business At this location. read more

Don't let the name fool you because they sell more than wine like beer, cocktail items, chocolate, nuts, cups, glasses and more! It's really crammed with so much stuff so it's easy to get overwhelmed. They do have the store laid out by wine categories that seems to help a bit. But as always, the staff is friendly helpful. This establishment is clean, well stocked and the team is pretty awesome. There is a male general manager who never stops moving. What is particularly wonderful about this gentleman is that he is often seen bringing out curbside purchases, sweeping and bringing in carts. I went looking for a bottle of wine as a present to a fellow Veteran. When I walked in I asked if they had a flyer because the Total Wines on Laskin Road usually has the sales ad in front as you walk in the door. The location I'm writing about is in Chesapeake near the Greenbrier mall on Crossways Blvd. It's so close to the Coast Guard Exchange that I went over once I realized the Exchange was closed early now (during the pandemic). Both employees were friendly and helpful. Dawn came over and asked if I was shopping for a male and I said, "Yes". She said she had just the selection for me because even tho it's a somewhat in limited supply that it was very popular with men. She indicated it's naturally sweet but not too sweet...what men like is that it's high in alcohol content as well as flavorful. I was sold. Usually the wines that high in alcohol content are dry. I remember this Veteran liked semi sweet wines so I'll keep you posted on his review as well. I recommend this place highly because I remember them having a great selection of Prosecco sparkling wines and also a variety of wines from the winery called Prince Michel. They have accessories for special occasions! I'll be the first to admit, I don't know diddly-squat about wine. I grew up on a farm in a teetotaling Mennonite community in Northeastern Ohio. Alcohol was not even sold in my home township so people needed to drive a bit to find their alcoholic libations. Growing up, the only alcohol I was exposed to was homemade hard cider, hard root beer and moonshine. All that is to say when it comes to wine I don't know Merlot from Chablis from Burgundy from Moscato from...well, you get the idea. I think my first experience with wine was in college where I got to try some of the good stuff like Boone's Farm, Thunderbird, MD 20/20, etc... It was always swigged directly from the bottle then passed on to the next person. Sometimes I would see people drinking wine in movies or when I was in an upscale restaurant and think to myself, "I wonder what's up with that cork thing." Alright, enough about my cultured wine background. Here's the thing, you don't have to know anything about wine to have a good experience at Total Wine & More. Tell them what you're looking for or what you want to pair a wine with and they will guide you through the selection process from their massive inventory. The employees are knowledgeable on the subject of wine and know their stock. They are happy to make suggestions and I have to say I have never bought a bottle of wine at their store that I didn't enjoy. It's a real bonus that their prices are pretty darn good too, much less than what I've observed at area grocery stores. A few weeks ago my sister-in-law gave me a glass of Stella Rosa Black that I really enjoyed. She told me she loved the wine but didn't buy it often because of the price. I decided to buy her a bottle for a Christmas stocking stuffer and found it at Total Wine for $5 less than what she paid at Farm Fresh. Of course I couldn't find it when I went to the store but the employee I asked about it was able to walk me right to it. Nice! The store is a little crowded with narrow aisles and doesn't exactly appear bright or particularly attractive but it does serve its intended purpose. They also have a good selection of craft beers and I've been there a couple of times when people were giving samples of some of those craft beers. I really enjoy that. There is plenty of available free parking in the large private lot Total Wine shares with other stores in the shopping center and getting in and out is easy. All of the wine is separated into different sections depending on what kind it is or where it is from. The wine bottles come in various sizes so you can get a little or a lot. They also have a lot of beer options such as kegs, domestic, imports, bottles, cans, cold beer and warm beer. Total Wine reminds of Bevmo, albeit a condensed version. The oddest and coolest aspect of the store is the ability to mix beer bottles in six-packs. You can actually create your own sampler pack. There is a catch, you can't do it with domestics. Some of my friends think that their selection of beers is the best in the area, and they're absolutely right. However, I've seen better selections at Bevmo and a few privately-owned liquor stores in New Jersey and California. But for the Chesapeake area, I can't think of a better place to try a new beer. The wine selections are ok. I didn't see any varietals from the Temecula region but they had Napa, Columbia, Monterey covered. They also carry a decent selection of Malbec and Bordeaux. Other than Riesling, I don't really care for whites, but I did notice an expansive selection for Pinot Grigio and Chards. I also noticed a small humidor of cigars. I suggest you research deeper and look for actual cigar retailers. They carry a serviceable inventory, but if you're an enthusiast you'll be disappointed. Solid wine chain. I'm from SF and a bit of a wino and was surprised how knowledgeable the staff was. They turned me on to a great Vouvray and Norton Tower Series, which rocked my socks off. Really, a funky, pepper, fruity explosion. A truly American wine, It is a completely unabashedly hedonistic. A friend called it "dirty, in a good way." I saw Yuengling in one of the local convenience stores and was sad when I realized after I popped the top that it had lived a long life and had been forgotten on the cooler shelf by people that did not know what a Yuengling was. So the quest began to find someplace to get decent beer that did not have the phrase "weiser" in the name. Now I brew my own and that tastes amazing compared to other beers but I still like micro brews and seasonals. Plus the fact they have a very large selection of wine is a great addition to the store I already visit. "The Good" - The staff, they are fast with a recommendation when needed and I have not been steered wrong yet. I recently went to a cookout (yes a cookout in VA in February, who knew!?) where peppers and sausage were served. I have found a few displaced Northerners down here but they do not go out much. I explained what the food was going to be and without a second thought we were in the South American Wine aisle looking at wines that had a peppery taste. It was a hit and went great with the meal. Score one for the bald guy. - They have an e-mail club that allows you to get a newsletter, normally I hate these things but when they give you coupons for a dollar off a six pack or a few dollars off of wine it is the smart thing to do. - Shopping carts, they know that you will fill them up if they provide them.... so you get them. - The single beer aisle. They have empty six pack holders that you can fill up with single beers in case you wanted to try something new but not wasting your hard earned coin - Kegs, ahh the good old days. I like trying new things, so I'm a huge fan of the create your own sampler 6-pack... there's a whole wall filled with singles, including new beers and seasonals. The massive beer selection is divided into sections, so you can easily find what you're looking for (i.e. going straight to the Belgians), or you could easily spend an hour in here gazing at all the selections.
