My local liquor stores in Melrose and Keystone stock garbage Patron, Cuervo, and every pretty bottled tequila available. What they don't stock is simple bottles, with zero additives. TW&M has a wonderful selection of the quality tequilas I enjoy sipping. The prices are the lowest anywhere, the shelves are kept fully stocked with the best products at any price point. This is not a liquor store: this is a retailer designed for the cocktail enthusiast. This store has A TON of mini bottles, which gives me all the leeway I need to experiment and practice creating craft cocktails without committing to a full-sized bottle. (Plus, I can't take the big bottles back with me on the plane). There were at least 5 different 4-sided racks, and another display bin containing all the single-serve booze bottles one could ever want. I ended up finding quite a few new favorites before the end of my trip and was able to make some really incredible drinks (Peach Cobbler or Hazelnut Brownie Martinis anyone?) There is a Total Wine store in Atlanta that is so big, it took me 45 minutes to walk through the whole store! TW takes alcohol to the next level!! I was looking for a Polish vodka (you can almost think of any alcohol from any country, and they will either have it or be able to get it...wow!!) I browsed the vodka aisle, and found Blysk Vodka from Poland! Great!! I wasn't even sure they would have it in stock! They have so many types of alcohol, bottles, colors, shapes and sizes! If you are at least 21, I recommend just walking through the store to look at all the labels of your favorite poisons. You will pick up several bottles, look at the label, and say "wow"! It is a great place for special cocktails or rare brews! I go in there just to look around, even if I am not looking for anything. I just like to know what is out there! Total Wine always has a good selection of scotches, bourbons, and whiskeys but whenever I ask them for recommendations, they always try to push their Grangestone, Shieldaig, or Glen Fohdry labels for scotches, which are just sink pours and a waste of money since they just taste bad. When I ask them about other brands, that aren't Total Wine affiliated, they brush it off or just make really generic comments such like "that one is pretty good" and if I ask for comparisons to other scotches, they cannot tell me what differentiates them. I don't care that some random TW employee who's not even a scotch sommelier thinks Shieldaig is "very good" (btw it's not). TLDR: They just keep pushing their store brand stuff onto you even though it's bad and don't really know much about the brands they carry. What a selection. I was really impressed with how many different wines they have. The prices for most of the premium wines are comparable to other retail stores. The lower end wines and boxed wines are noticeably cheaper than what you'll find in the local grocery or liquor store. They have a great beer selection too. Pricing is about the same as anywhere else though. While there is a good selection of liquor, I don't like the way it is organized. The shelves seem sort of haphazard and disorganized in the bourbon section. Two of my favorite irish whiskies aren't available at this store but I can readily find them at my local grocery. That's a little disappointing. They do carry some specialty foods but nothing that really stands out. Typical boars head premium meats and a few cheeses. For a place that has such a huge selection of wine I would think they would have a larger selection of yummy snacks to try to accompany some of that wine. There are lots of wine accessories and glasses for sale. If you need a wine widget or some sort of boozie thingamobob accessory, they have it somewhere in the store. Don't get me wrong; I love Total Wine. The concept, the prices, some of the experiences I have at different Total Wine locations - I love Total Wine. Now I am done saying good stuff. Tonight's opening of Total Wine SUCKED! I will admit the only other Total Wine opening I have been to was one in Orlando (Colonial Plaza, Orlando) and that was so off the hook that it set the bar really, really high. But the opening of the Gainesville store did not even rank in the range of a regular day at any other Total Wine location I have attended. Total Wine locations I have patronized: Manassas, Fredericksburg, Richmond, Clearwater, Orlando, Altamonte Springs, Tampa, Ft Lauderdale, Coral Springs (different than Ft Lauderdale) Viera, Naples, and NOW Gainesville. Oops, I left out Melbourne. I am a patron. Total Wine, you had me at "hello." And yet, you will not be getting laid tonight. I obviously still recommend them, I am giving them 5 stars based on prices and selection, and, UGH, reputation, but OMG was tonight a HUGE FAIL! And here is the thing that burns my ass; I told friends to come to this opening. I whooped it up about how good it was going to be when it opened. I told my trusted friends that there would be food and dozens, maybe as many as 20, different stations for tasting, and great stations with awesome wines. There was only one wine station, and it was serving up 4 bottles of yuck. There were 4 stations. A wine station with one white and 3 reds, a Jack Daniels station, an "Alabama Style" station, and a beer station. That is it... And, there was a cheese guy in the entrance. This did not compare to a regular Friday at the Total Wine in Orlando. Total Wines ROCK! This not only did not rock, it SUCKED! I Ubered in and sober Ubered out for this, anticipating awesome. I was easy legal to drive when I left. Had to Uber home because I did not bring a car. OMG, this opening sucked! I could go on about the absolute WORST bar server I have ever seen, and how she chose to help her bar back stack glasses when she had a line of 20 people waiting because she was the ONLY person serving wine to taste, or I could tell you how one of only other 3 tasting stations was more concentrated on bragging about Alabama Roll Tide football than trying to be welcomed to Gainesville. When my husband said, "you are kinda in my face, offensive with your Roll Tide rhetoric, we are all SEC here, but you may want to tone the Roll Tide/Gators Suck rhetoric down here," and he said, "Oh, I am holding back." You are in our house, and we love Alabama, and we love the SEC, work that aspect, don't be hostile, smack Gator hate talking IN OUR HOUSE! I cannot and will not ever say anything bad about this amazing store after the service I received this past week by the store manager! This store has it all, but the Customer Service goes well beyond amazing! I highly recommend this location and the store manager did an amazing job at keeping his customers super happy. So I really like a certain type of cheap beer called Bud Select. I am from STL and as this being the US headquarters you can get every type of AB product and I fell in love with Bud Select specifically. Living in Florida now I wanted to get Bud Select for the Gator Tailgate I was going to so I started to look online and could not find it. I decided to give Total Wine a call and was told by a sales associate that Yes, they do have Bud Select. I was super excited about this so I got in my car and drove over to buy this. When I got to the store I went straight to the beer selection and started looking for Bud Select. I quickly realized I may have been lied to as I could not find any of it anywhere. I decided just to ask a sales associate if maybe it was in the back or they ran out. The associate working happened to be the store manager and he went to the computer and looked it up. He said they have not sold it in a while and the closest store that has it is in Orlando. I was pretty sad because I had called specifically and asked about this product. The manager then told me to go grab any beer off the shelf and he will take care of it. I was super happy about this and thanked him. I went and grabbed two 244 packs of beer and thought since I was getting one for free I will pay for the other one. When I got to the register the manager said I was good to go and gave me both 24 packs for free. I was shocked and offered to pay and he said no the store will take care of those. Some of the most intellectually rigid individuals work here. What's worse they have been trained to put on airs of knowledge. Don't tell me that my pronunciation is the problem, let alone the implication that I'm a foreigner and you have a problem with it, but no matter how you pronounce it, Tannat can not be mistaken for anything else. So if you don't know a particular varietal, that's ok. But don't try to talk about acidity and earthiness and make me recommendations based on zero capability. Additionally, make sure you check vintage at this store because they will advertise the 98 point 2015 vintage when all they got on the shelf is 2020 which was more like 89 points. Big difference even if you're dyslexic. Finally, these mental giants don't match the online discounts even when it's their fault the app doesn't work and yes, it was at this store! read more

As someone who enjoys sampling, they have an astonishing variety of small alcohol sizes for sampling (and making gift packs) along with tons of different gift sets and random, unique items. Their wine selection is also massive. Based on proximity to my house, I usually try ABC first when I need to find something, however Total Wine is my next stop and I'm always able to find what I need there. I have been in the Total wine in Tampa FL and this store is not quite the same. I always use the Good, Bad, and Ugly scale to write reviews so here it goes. The Good: the store has a boatload of wine, beer and other Alcohol. If you are looking for it they are likely to have it (a large portion of the time). Their prices on wine also seemed to be very competitive if not better than other stores in the area. With that said I'll move on to the not so good. The Bad: While the selection is pretty good the organization is weird. It is not intuitive, making it difficult to find exactly what you are looking for. I spent a lot of time looking for wine, beer, and bourbon. The prices on the beer and bourbon were Not competitive. Tipple's has better prices on most of their beers and kegs. The Ugly: I was hoping their staff would have knowledge above what I consider most people already know. I only asked about one wine and the answer was what I already knew, not what I wanted to know. When I entered the bourbon section the guy was not - in the know- if you know what I mean. I was not impressed with the lack of knowledge and the selection wasn't that great. I was looking for a few holiday gifts and honestly I decided to buy them at Winn Dixie instead. Their prices were much better. All in all I hope the store does ok and they work out some kinks. So I just spent an hour at Total Wine. I saved some time and didn't buy at my normal place because I wanted to give them a good look through. They do have a wide selection. It's a bit overwhelming. But they fail to really give you any decent info on the wines, other than trying to sell you on their selections. I used an app to search the wines and found a couple things: 1) Their prices are not better or worse than typical competition. I found this surprising. I thought the whole idea of this store was to have a huge selection and better prices due to purchasing power. But nope, they don't have better prices. 2) Many of their selections are not well known. They have many wines under $10 that you can't get info on. So again, I wish there was more info. I thought they were going to be the experts in wine and it would be like entering a library or school. It wasn't. The biggest thing that happened? Nothing. I was there for an hour, browsing mainly red wines, and not one employee ever said a thing to me. This wasn't a weekend, this was noon on a weekday. There were employees all over. But none came over and asked if I needed help or just tried to impart some wine wisdom to me. I'll tell you exactly what it felt like: Best Buy. I know some love Total Wine. I get it, some people love Best Buy (I guess). But I don't. I find it very cold and inorganic. I feel they are just there to put smaller businesses out of business with their size, not with their service. It pales in comparison to a wine purchase experience I had at Lucky's market. The wine employee there noticed I was looking at Washington wines and commented how much he loved them also. He then said "Have you ever tried this wine?" And we stood there and talked wine for 5 minutes. He never sold me a thing, just wanted to talk about his passion for wine with me which I really appreciated. This is kind of what I expected from Total Wine. But it's also what I expected from Best Buy when they first came out. Too bad all the small mom and pop computer stores are now out of business. Gainesville why are you so afraid of good business coming to town? Afraid the ma and pa shops will go out of business? Here's the things... I don't like crappy establishments and you seem to allow them to thrive here. I don't get it. Total wine is a GREAT example of a good business from the "outside" that does it better. Bigger, better selection and a business which is customer focused. I asked three different employees three different questions about products when I was here last. Each one of them answered my questions and walked me to the area where the products I requested were located. I had a great experience. When the items were not on the shelf, they grabbed their gun-thingy and checked for inventory in the back. This is opposite to a local liquor store which my fiancé and I visited recently which the employee said they didn't have any inventory tracking system and couldn't help us because he didn't know what had in their store. *FAIL* This was especially annoying since we were looking for a particular (not hard to find) liquor to purchase as a gift. Total Wine does it better. Does it cheaper. And is what I WANT. They also can order out of stock items and get them in within a week. They give discounts if you purchase wine by the case and so far have had coupons in every paperwork worth 20% off your total purchase. read more

Everyone who is working is always so helpful. Jay and Jo are two favorite cashiers who are friendly, inviting and always comment on our drink choices if they have tried it before. There are always many different beers, ciders, wines and spirits to choose for every event. The store did run out of a beer we like to stock up with and we were given the option to leave our name and phone number so they could call us when the shipment came in to the store. We never received a call and just happened to see it had come in on our next visit. We were a bit disappointed that they did not follow through on their end. read more

I have never written a bad review (or any Yelp review for that matter) in my life, but in this instance I have no choice. I went into the store with my younger sister, who did not touch a single product, and was refused sale due to her being with me. The older lady (only register open) who checked me out this morning made me feel so uncomfortable and embarrassed simply for being with my sibling, who also felt humiliated. Every single person in line was agreeing that she was being ridiculous, and they even came outside of the store after checking out to tell us she was being out of line and apologize for how she spoke to us. I felt very discriminated against for having to care for my younger sibling, and she says "you cannot buy this unless you prove to me that you are her legal guardian." She was so rude throughout the whole interaction. I will never return to this store, even though I have been a loyal customer for years. She does not deserve to work there. read more

I dub this particular store "The Aldi of Liquor Stores." I was on a mission shop, specifically looking for Lakeridge Winery wines. With a manager that walked past me without any sort of "Welcome to Total Wine," (Geesh, even WalMart has greeters that make you feel welcome), whilst I was obviously in need of help locating my desired item, I pressed the , "Press here for help," button. When that same guy came back to ask if I needed help, I explained what I was looking for. Without any words from his mouth, he turned and started briskly walking toward the last aisle in the store where two other employees were restocking the shelves. He shoved their ladder cart forward and pointed to the shelving and said, "They're right there," and he turned and walked away. Wanting to purchase 10 bottles for gifts, I would've appreciated his help in securing a box and loading the bottles. So I turned to one of the stockers and asked for the nice wine bottle carrying boxes that you get when you purchase at a winery. I received the, "Are you an alien?" look and an, "I mean, there's some boxes down there," as she pointed under their ladder cart. Would've been nice to have received an offer for her to get me one of those wretched shipping boxes, but hey, a passive directive to get my own is their best, I guess. So I walked to the front of the store in search of a higher being than what I'd experienced thus far, to ask my same question about the boxes, only to learn that my $100+ purchase would be traveling home in a wretched shipping box. Okay, well, so be it. But when I asked for help carrying my wretched, now full box of precious wine bottles, you'd think one of the customer service representatives would offer assistance in carrying or point out the shopping carts just inside the door, hidden from view [insert eye roll here]. Come to find out, Mr. Useless, is the Manager (Though, I admit, upon request, he did carry the box to a shopping cart and brought it to the cash register). So I guess there's that. When clearly there was a mom with her child buying wine and no one said anything! Then they said we had to wait 24 hours to come back and get the drinks!
