It was my birthday and husband and I attended a class at Total Wine Richmond Tx. The class was 'Pop Open a Party'. The class started with a welcoming cocktail and some light snacks. We got to sample several different sparkling wines and learned about the history and background about the different wines. These classes are always fun and informative. Eric did a great job teaching the class and Heather did a great job pouring. We ended the class with a blind tasting and to my surprise Eric had the class sing Happy Birthday to me...Best class ever. I'm a huge fan of the educational classes Total Wine offers! This week I attended the Hennessy cocktail class and absolutely loved it! We were educated on the how Hennessy came to be, the foundations of making the products, and tastings of three of their products. We arrived at our usual store 10 minutes before closing. I grabbed what I needed, but didn't check the price on an item that didn't have a price tag on the shelf. We left and I noticed the price was waaay higher than I wanted to pay. Even though they had just closed, the older gentleman at the front got the manager and the manager returned my item with no problem. He was helpful, kind, patient and took care of the return with no fuss and a genuine smile. Nowadays you rarely get that kind of help. I'm a big fan of the Total Wine franchises, but some of them are less good than others and this one I've noticed the stock has been dwindling and the service has been pretty iffy lately. Hands down one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. I have never been treated with such disrespect while shopping in my life. I went in with my sister today to get help picking out items to stock my husbands new In home bar, I bought him. I was looking for a specific item and the young lady I asked literally rolled her eyes at me. I decided to take the high road. I went in search of my item and still couldn't find it. I asked an older gentleman I believe in his 60's for help he was wearing a white button down , he was quite rude as well and proceeded to argue with me. We received a little help looking for wine but the person wandered off. Checkout needs serious improvement. Cashier looked at my wife when we walked into the aisle. Cashier then turned and walked away since it was apparently more important to collect some bags from the ends of the checkout lane. Customer does not appear to be very important here. read more

I went Saturday looking for a specific liquor there was an older gentleman manager and his excuse was he didn't have his gadget and he couldn't tell me and he said he didn't know as a manager you should look for your little little gadget or ask someone who knows and I would think as a manager that they taught you a little bit about liquor he seem rude and didn't care seemed grumpy I'm middle age I don't treat customers with excuses I try to do my best to find out whatever I can have any question they ask that's what a manager does, seems a lot of these older people in the stores are kind of grumpy and not polite there's only one manager in the Sugarland store that is sweet funny and he's the only one, I wish they had more wine tasting on weekends in the little booth seems to be empty a lot don't want to answer questions you have a lot of people working in there but a lot of them don't know the liquor but they can find out for you instead of saying I don't know it's a beautiful store I love the stores I've been to all of them it's my favorite liquor store but they need more pleasant employees and management it makes the visit more pleasant to go to instead of disappointment read more

I decided to come to this location because it was close to my house. This location is extremely large and has a very large selection of all types of wines liquor and beer. It's like a Walmart for alcohol LOL. I have shopped lots of places in the city such as Spec's and Goody Goody and this place beats them all in price. They are long aisles of wine, rum, vodka, tequila, scotch etc. It seems to be enormous amounts of liquor. They now have 8 locations around Houston. It is definitely the place I will be shopping for all my drink needs. read more

My expectations surely were greater than they should have been. My wife and I came here hoping to find some different wines and liquors than the other big store in Houston, Spec's. Nope. What we found was pretty much the same inventory but slightly better prices. So if you are looking for small batch or single barrel bourbons that you can't get at Spec's .. they're not here either. Such a great experience here!! I had a long list of liquor, wine, beer, mixers, and cups to get for a large party I was in charge of for work. I previously went to Costco, which had only 2 items I needed and they were completely unhelpful when asking for suggestions and conversions. After that I went to Total Wine and had spectacular service there!! Not only did they have everything I needed in one spot, but Brian and Ethan happily helped get every item for me. I gave them my list and they brought everything to the front. Brian was super helpful with conversions and appropriate amounts needed. Ethan suggested I get the app so I could benefit from their rewards program and he also assisted me out and loaded up my car. It may seem like a very basic interaction but finding people who genuinely want to help, are knowledgeable, and do it with a smile is so rare these days. read more

Not sure what's going on with this store, but it has become really terrible. Half empty shelves, and an ever decreasing selection of products. I purchased a six pack of Alaskan Brewing Co Kolsch on May 8th that had a "best by" date of March. They also continue to enforce an arbitrary and illegal "mask mandate" in the store. It's a huge store, unbeatable selection, competitive prices on most items, but not alway the cheapest so do your research. I find most of the name brand, trendy liquors to be a few dollars more expensive than competitors. Grey goose,disaronno etc etc But if you want something a little less common or one of their "spirits direct" options then it's a fantastic place to go. Staff has almost always been excellent, except I've come with my wife and my wife got carded when I was buying. Idk if there was an auditor in the building or something but had my wife not had her ID on her (which isn't uncommon) then this would probably be a much lower rating. I guess you shouldn't bring anyone underage into the store. They might not let you checkout. Sales staff is a little over zealous but they generally get the point. Just be warned, if you go to a different part of the store and see a different employee they will ask you if you need help. I'd much prefer to browse my wine in piece but I guess having over helpful staff that's always available is better the the alternative. read more

Horrible customer service. I went up to the register to make a purchase while my wife stayed about 10 feet back with our baby. Our baby started crying, so my wife pulled her mask down from her nose so it was only covering her mouth. Sometimes masks scare the baby. As soon as she did this, the cashier (whom was behind plexiglass) started yelling at her to pull her mask back up. Keep in mind, my wife is still about 10 behind me. My wife didn't hear her, so the cashier looks at me and tells me to make her pull her mask up or she won't ring up my purchase. Not only was the cashier behind plexiglass, she wasn't anywhere near my wife. We ended up leaving without buying anything, and on our way out the cashier made a couple rude comments mocking us. We called and complained to corporate, but of course we never heard back from anyone. I'll never be back. read more

Went in with my boyfriend so he could buy beer. I don't drink, as I'm going through chemotherapy. The cashier refused to sell my boyfriend the beer because I don't carry my wallet around as I'm weak, and therefore I didn't have my ID- fair enough, HOWEVER later on when my boyfriend returned alone to the store to buy his beer while I was resting the manager RUDELY refused him the sale once again.... 1. There was no need to be rude 2. It seems a little unreasonable to me to go through SUCH great lengths to the point of being rude to a customer when (if we were trying to be sketchy) we could turn around and buy that same beer at any grocery store. If we were buying large amounts of hard liquor, I would get it, but it was just a 6 pack....completely uncalled for. read more

They will explain the different items they have and what the flavors are like. Certain days they have samples to try different things. This is not the best Total Wine store in the city, quite frankly. Positives: The selection is decent, although more limited in special items. For example, they aren't allocated any of Saint Arnold's Bishop's Barrel series. They frequently are out of stock on typical items. The store is laid out fairly well, and there are a good amount of staff (more on that in the negatives). Prices are a little high for Katy. Negatives: When you get a knowledgeable employee, it's great. Sadly there just aren't that many knowledgeable employees it seems. Be prepared to ask more than one person for item locations on most days. When you get a manager, be careful with their recommendations. It's great that they know THEIR palate, but sometimes they do not listen to what the customer is looking for. OK, not sometimes, but OFTEN. I've been told vintages from 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 were 'nearly identical' - only to find that the 2018 that was pushed on me was deeply awful at 30% greater price. I've been given a zin that was coolaide rather than comparable with my chosen bottle (which they were out of, again, because they only stock 3 bottles). I've been told (too) that perhaps I wasn't 'experienced' enough to know what I wanted. That's why this store is a 3 - staffing issues and a certain lack of customer service. read more

Absolutely love this place. Walking in I couldn't believe how big it was and what a selection they have. They have tastings on the weekend and we definitely took advantage. Spirits - they have an "Ok" selection but cater more to the average consumer. Beer - I made the mistake TWICE (shame on me) of buying a specialty beer off the shelf. Skunky both times. I don't believe they rotate the beer on the shelves, so despite the selection it's going to be hit or miss on the quality. And no, it's not worth my time to drive back with my receipt for a refund or exchange - just take more interest in your inventory. read more
