Unreliable and unprofessional…read more We booked Dan to carry out a straightforward bay window refurbishment (Which I have since had to do myself). From beginning to end we received nothing but delays, excuses, no shows, pestering for keys and changes of plans. As soon as we payed the deposit for the works he announced he had a dog with separation anxiety which he had no choice but to bring along (Despite having been told that we didn't want a dog in our house). This dog was then the catalyst for the barrage of plan changes and no shows. He brought this dog into our friends home on a previous job, same story, he was told the dog was not welcome and as soon as the deposit was paid, separation anxiety revealed and he brought the dog anyway. I do not see the need to recount the specifics of our disappointing experience in their entirety but I recommend avoiding this trades person as he obviously takes on far more jobs than he can handle at any one time.

I naturally emailed and called to try and get the problem fixed but I unfortunately I had no response or received any explanation. He came from recommendation of a friend of a friend but I won't be using his shoddy services again! One to avoid and thankfully I have a professional who has since rectified everything!

After two very cold winters, the thought of another one was too much to bare, something had to be done about our drafty front door. The first hurdle was finding a door that was fitting for the house, despite the age of the house we luckily had a standard sized door so I found one on web and had it delivered. The second was finding someone reliable to fit the door. I did what anyone would do and typed - Carpenter E3 - into Google and I found a site called mybuilder.com. This is were I found E5 Carpentry, which I selected based on their great reviews, location in E5 just down the road and detailed website. I emailed my enquiry and I received a quick reply from Calum, whilst he was on holiday! When he was back I received a very reasonable quote and I booked him in to do the job and he was kind enough to squeeze me in on a Saturday. The day for fitting arrived and it was raining. Rain and untreated doors don't go together. After about 20 minutes of wishing the rain to stop we abandoned for the day. Work resumed on bank holiday Monday and the weather was much better (I felt so bad that they gave up their day off!) Calum and Oscar had the patience of saints. The door frame was a nightmare, in short nothing was straight and as one niggle was solved another appeared straight away! They worked tirelessly throughout the day to get the door weatherproof. They kept the work contained and cleared up as they went along. The door was painted the next morning. I was very cheeky and asked if the door frame could be smartened up too and they managed to squeeze in the extra work for me they next day. I'm so pleased with my new door. It's really made the house feel more ours. I will definitely be keeping Calum's number for future work.

I chose Calum to build a new bookshelf and wardrobe and I am so glad I did. He and Oscar worked extremely hard to get both looking perfect. He also came up with some very good ideas of what else I could achieve as new ideas for the house. Would highly recommend them!

For those in the local area who do not utilise this lovely open space, I feel the need to encourage you to get out and explore. The park used to be the grounds that surrounded an old psychiatric 'asylum', which has since been demolished and has been replaced by a gated community of luxury houses. Much to the local community's good fortune, the surrounding land has been left undeveloped, and this is now known as 'Claybury Park'. I do feel that the term 'park' is a little misleading; the land is quite rural, with mostly mud paths and lots of woodland. There are a number of lakes, with one being quite large and is surrounded by a picnic area, which I hope to take advantage of, if the British weather ever allows it. I feel that this 'park' would benefit from better paths and clearer signs (for new walkers, one can get lost), and this is why I have rated it as slightly above average.

There are many paths to follow on foot or on bike if you are an avid explorer. There is some wildlife to watch but it is not over run. We walk our dog often around Hoxton Square and see these bikes parked all about: "Green Workforce!" Sounds good to me, so I rang up and made an appointment. Easy to schedule, and they've been on time for both slots we've had. So far, we've had the following projects completed: *Hung shelves in our kitchen with brackets (and this is a VERY sloped room!) *Extended our shower hose and mounted a plant for it to the wall so that it can actually serve as a shower, and not a poorly-designed bathing situation for any plausible human. *Bits and bobs: tightened doorknobs, sealed doors and windows. The rates are hourly, but reasonable. Cash preferred upon completion. We've had two different guys out, and both were very friendly and professional. We call them now for anything we might need! Nice to have them as a resource for all those home projects you either can't get to, or shouldn't do yourself!

They were contracted to replace a door handle and a tap, simple jobs. Very clear instructions were given in writing via email and also on the phone. Unfortunately the tap they fitted was loose and a completely inappropriate handle was fitted, despite detailed conversation about what would be correct. One could see this as an honest mistake had they not try to get me to pay to make the poor job good! I ended up replacing the door handle myself to a good standard but the tap botch seems so bad that a new unit will have to be fitted. So be warned even if you are clear as crystal and have everything in writing you still may be expected to pay for bad work to be made good.
