Its in a small tram shed and is devoted to over a century of tram travel in Manchester and displays a load of photos, mechanical equipment and personal artifacts. It charts the history from horse drawn omnibuses to modern day metrolink trams. The staff there were really enthusistic and helpful - bordering on the geekish but it is educational and great fun for my little 'un.

Socialism at it's best! It's a decent size over two floors, but not so big that you start to get bored. The downstairs tells you all about the pioneers, and upstairs there is all kind of items and displays about Co-Ops around the world and a small range of gifts you can buy. The gentleman working there the day I visited couldn't have been more helpful and happily told us all kind of interesting facts about Co-ops! The admission charge is ridiculously low (although I managed to get in free as part of some promotion going on in the town!) I would thoroughly recommend this museum!

This modern addition to the old Arts and Crafts Centre has been built across the road from Bury Art Gallery and Musuem to house the collections of the XX Lancashire Fusiliers and Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. It seems a fitting tribute to the service of current soldiers from this regiment who are serving their country: the HQ and Recruiting Centre keeps up links with these men. Available to view here are such objects as revolvers, diaries of corporals and other officers, lanterns and examples of soldier's uniform. Their archives, perhaps just for the real military history enthusiasts, also include medal rolls and records of honours and awards. The Fusilier with its pretty garden, state of the art design and precious historical objects is a good addition to Bury's expanding 'Cultural Quarter'.

It was cool to see Leyland Atlanteans & Olympians like the ones I caught as a kid including the old ticket machines and even the clipper card machine. You are free to climb aboard some of the exhibits and have a sit down or just look around. On certain summer weekends they run free rides to either Victoria Station or MOSI on one of the actual vintage buses - check the website for details. The museum houses a small cafeteria which does basic food: pies, tea & coffee, cakes, crisps. Free refills are available on hot drinks. Well worth the £4 entry charge, especially considering they have a few ongoing restoration projects.

Okay, it's not quite as vast as its southern counterpart and there are no vintage tube carriages on display but there is a stunning Victorian horse-drawn bus, classic 40s and 50s coaches, 60s stagecoach double deckers with their original livery and a prototype Metrolink tram. The bus garage also features the original transport offices with their original decor and furniture, old ticket machines, uniforms and photographs. For £4 entry, it's a fun and not too expensive way to travel back in time (and for the kids it's free).

My 8 year old daughter enjoyed it, especially the water wheel. Theres lots of information, but not too much to bore the children. Its a good value morning or afternoon out in Lancashire. Would revist in a few years, but not quite a full day. Theres even a shop for the kids to spend their pocket money.

They are available with first class service. I once performed here with my school for the mayor, and yes I was nervous but I kept getting lost as the place is soooo big. A map would be helpful! There is also a museum inside this gigantic building. It is the museum of the Manchester Regiment. They have many things on offer and lots of school kids go and have a wander and learn about what their grandad did etc. It is fun to go and look at all the history! The added bonus is that it is free to get in so HIGH FIVE! If you are thinking of having a wedding reception here. It is a small, unusual museum with a fascinating selection of exhibits, including a lot of The history of Lancashire. It is set in stunning grounds with plenty of different areas to suit all ages and with superb views across Rossendale. There is ample on-site parking. Within the museum building are a bar and a café, both impressive in quality and service.

The artist Phyllis Hargreaves, is available during the weekends and is more than happy to give a tour around her Gallery. Lots of spaces in Healey Dell for the kids to explore and burn off some steam, a Cafe next door to sit and relax, all in all, a really good way to spend the day
