Hole in a Redwood tree, Okay for one time [Klamath CA] California is home to some of the world's ancient giants in the form of redwoods and sequoias. In fact, three of these magnificent drive-thru redwood trees are in NorCal and we've experienced two of those including the Chandelier Tree (Leggett) and this one, Tour Thru Tree in Klamath. Some of these massive trunks are so wide that you can drive a car through them. $5 admission fee (cheaper by $10 from the Chandelier Tree charging $15 per car). The only thing confusing is the cars lining up in a little space to get to the entrance of the tree... the space can barely fit 4 cars, one car out of place can throw you off. The opening was carved in 1976 to avoid damaging the tree's living wood. Anyway, our little Toyota Corolla rental had no problems getting through the tree trunk. Not sure how large SUV's will fare or even a mini van. Well, that was a quick 5-minute experience... maybe 6. Review #3781

Drive thru tree in Toyota Camry, don't try it in a truck!

$15 cash for a driveway with a drive thru tree= tourist trap. Looks like a year ago, it was only $5 cash. It works be worth $5, but not worth it for $15. We got our pics and went thru it twice to get our money worth, lol. There were a couple trucks that came in after us and no way there were going to get thru, not sure why they don't tell them before they pay (they could circle around without going thru to get out).

Felt a bit overpriced for what it was, paid $15 to drive through. But was a fun little tourist stop

Even if you do not drive through the tree, this is worth the price of admission! Perspective! BTW-she is 6' tall

My daughter and I brought my mom (Gram) to see the Coastal Redwoods. This was one of two drive-through-trees we visited. This tree has a bit of a curve to get into and out of. Make darn sure your vehicle fits before even attempting this. I can imagine that during busy season, skipping the tree might be a bit of a hassle. Park down below by the entrance and walk up the road to double check to make sure you are comfortable bringing your vehicle through the tree. It is not a far walk, but the drive can get cramped during busy times! There is also a down tree trunk with arrows indicating years/events on the rings of the tree to give you an idea of how old the trees are. It is a must see if you are looking for some visual perspective of the age of these enormous trees. Be sure to bring the correct cash. It will make entering the area much faster for all of the visitors! Enjoy this place! We did! Most Sincerely!

While visiting the Redwoods, we got to visit 2 drive-through trees. The only reason I am giving this particular visit 4/5 stars is due to the lack of other things to see and the lack of information. The tree was incredible, just like so many other redwoods, but it was really just a tree with a hole cut into it. I didn't feel comfortable driving my rental car through it as there were no signs indicating the height or width of the hole (not that I saw at least). There also wasn't really anything to see besides the tree itself. Just a short drive up a hill to the tree and back down to the road. You can stop at the bisection of a tree on the way out to see the ring dates of a fallen giant redwood. That was pretty cool! I did think the $5 fee was fair just because national parks and a beautiful piece of history like that tree do require care and monitoring. However, we did visit AFTER the overall park pass fee was no longer effective, but I'd still be okay paying for the tree upkeep.

The Klameth Tour Thru Tree was a quick pit spot for us. The admission booth/gift shop was not manned (despite an Open sign) when we arrived, but you can drop a $5 donation through a box at the booth. The tree itself is nearly 800yrs old, standing at about 90ft fall and 17' in diameter. The opening is big enough for most vehicles (sedans and SUV's), but would probably not be sufficient if you have a large truck. You will have to fold in your side mirrors, as it is a tight squeeze. When we arrived, there was only 1 other person who arrived a few minutes prior to us. There is not much to see here besides the tree, so it is more of a quick drive-thru, take-a-few-pictures-and-leave type experience.

The Tour Thru Tree, an iconic looking image when going to the Redwoods!

For being a tourist for the Redwoods it just isn't a sufficient tour if you don't have pictures of yourself standing by a Redwoods tree in which *some* types of cars can drive through. It's iconic! There are about three trees like this in the area and there will not be anymore coming as conservation in the national park and state park area forbid any new drive through trees which is totally understandable because doing this is quite bad for the tree even if it doesn't kill it. To go to the Tour Thru Tree there is an exit near Klamath, California with a small sign from 101 and then you head east. It's right next to the main road and there is a $5 fee. All that's here is the Tour Thru Tree so once the posing and picture taking is over there is no other sightseeing options here so it's best to explore other attractions in the Redwoods after this brief tour.

Absolutely astonishing to drive through a tree! This is on a beautiful piece of property that is well maintained with a gift shop. I was surprised at the cost though.

Not worth $5. There was no one sitting at the pay station, and I doubt there ever is. We didn't dare try to get our car through there, but I think it is doable. Cheaper than the other one and no one around. Wish they didn't have their gimmicky signs on the tree.

Good spot for kids to go see. They liked going through the tree. Not a lot to see, but if you've got nothing else... The price is a little steep for this, $5, with nothing hit a tree to drive through.

When in the Redwoods ... driving thru a tree seems like a must! We had so much fun driving through several times. We were lucky only 1 other car came while we were there so we waited while they drove through and then continued our fun. For $5 our family had a blast. There wasn't an attendant on duty but we dropped our money in the slot and went on our way. We had a Nissan Pathfinder and once we folded the windows in had no issues fitting. Be a tourist and enjoy the fun roadside attraction!

Now who in their right mind would visit another drive-thru tree on the same road trip? I guess that would be me because after demystifying the Trees of Mystery up the road (review: http://bit.ly/32OqcSv), I decided no trip to Klamath would be complete without a visit here. Mind you, I was already quite jaded by the ten dollars I had to dole out for the privilege of squeezing through the Chandelier Drive-Thru Tree in Leggett. Down there, a young, overly zealous booth attendant made it sound like I was entering Xanadu, but fifteen minutes later, I was already on my way. It would have been ten were it not for the restroom they had next to the gift shop. Here I was greeted by an older lady who was concerned I was having this once-in-a-lifetime experience all by myself. I thanked her for her concern and went through the routine of folding in my rearview windows. The tree sat on a strange bluff which meant the chance of having a head-on collision with an outgoing car were pretty high. Regardless I went through without fuss, and as I was taking my obligatory selfie, a young woman who was in the car behind me, came up to me and said the booth attendant asked her to take a photo of me. Now that was a sweet gesture worthy of an extra star. Besides, at $5, it's half the price of the Chandelier tree. RELATED - Lost in redwood country? So cool! A 5 minute experience that will be a once in a lifetime event and the pictures and memories will last a lifetime! A must do, if you are in this area! No internet service, I have T-Mobile, but I was lucky to see the sign on the side of the road with directions! Super easy to find!

The home was finished in 1889, and was built for lumber baron William Carson. He and his family lived in the home for many years. It was in danger of demolition, as maintaining such large historic homes became costly. A group of local businessmen bought the home in 1950, and turned it into a private club. They have since spent millions and millions of dollars to restore and maintain the home. While it is absolutely beautiful from the outside, unfortunately, it is not open for tours. However, if you happen to know a member of the club, or if you are invited to an event such as a wedding, office party, etc. at the mansion, you can get a tour. It's a very nice home on the inside, and the highlight is the cupola at the very top, which Mr. Carson used to observe his business interests. If you would like to see what the inside looks like, you can Google the phrase , "Carson mansion interior."

Beautiful Victorian architecture!…read more Went up north for the Memorial Day weekend for the redwoods but had to make a stop to check out the famous Carson Mansion. Love the green tones of the home and varying rooflines. At first I was surprised that there was no placard with a summary of the place but then I noticed a small sign. It was fun to see the sign at the front of the gate that had a QR code to scan and it'll take you to a Spotify listening to learn about the history of the place. Very cool, because this way you can listen to the history of it via your phone at either the site at that moment or even play it on the drive back. It was unique and something I haven't seen before! We took our time and appreciated the view because if you turn to the left you can also observe the water and pedestrian walkway corridors in town. If you're in Eureka and even only have 5-10 minutes to spare, I recommend swinging by the Carson Mansion to get a taste of high quality architecture, unique views, and a lil history moment!

Won't be pricks if you don't give them a reason and won't discriminate just because some rando in authority or local doesn't like you They are empathetic to emotional issues There is a tiny marina full of life. You can totally rock climb(boulder) on the beach ,the beaches are amazing. Nice beach coming, close to any adventure you want within driving and sometimes walking distance , housing is affordable (difficult to find legitimate decent housing due to lack of availability for professional maintenance and construction) food is affordable,I don't do Walmart but there is one great local food and coffee (shout out to the coffee peoples) cab company is awesome, some of the older original locals are really friendly and don't mind passing conversation, there are several touristy things to do,the roads don't suck, home Depot and ace,as many or more dispensaries as grocery stores, there aren't many black people I'm assuming it residual racism from Oregon Not as stuck in the past as many places in Humboldt but not here in the now. , extremely interesting ambience, crazy fog, amazing weather almost everyday year round if you don't mind rain, only got what I consider cold probably three times in four years, problematic people and situations are compartmentalized in certain areas. There's totally a cheese factory with attractive employees, slower way of life like coastal living is supposed to be. Redwoods, obscene amounts of wildlife, great bike trails, can be walked, there is an awesome Asian market and miss kelly is an attractive female and the friendliest person ever. There are also the happy cows from the commercials across the street from the ocean, two light houses , surf spots, almost all people that work in stores are friendly and professional and mature, younger people aren't obnoxious or problematic if you check the tweakers they know their place most of the time, I'm personally unaware of any significant violence and the police there can handle it,Sam elliot drives and police truck(sup dude) other than a bit of extreme effort to get things fixed in housing and some lack of materials at random due to location the mailroom and employees are great, community watch knows their place(that's hard to find) It's in reasonable driving distance to Brookings Oregon another great place. Only real issues are the property management companies who are easy to deal with if you know the law and what you're doing, there are colleges,I lived across from a school and it wasn't loud, weed is crazy affordable on any budget Beaches aren't crowded even during season and you can find places to not be bothered even if people put in effort Construction and maintenance crews are a significant issue Crescent City is my favorite place in Cali seconded by Santa Barbara,if you can afford it go to Santa Barbara but the weather isn't as good way more stuff most upper economic people aren't stuck up even if you live out of your van in the los padres And to the point park rangers at both are awesome Oh and in crescent city there are tons of seals and sea lions that can be heard with the rising sun plenty of seagulls ,there are lakes and rivers along with the ocean Gas is more affordable or you can just go to Brookings or a casino. Natives are friendly. No idea how the average job market is but there it shouldn't matter. You can have an ideal coastal life broke there if you do it right Negative, they moved the amazing art from the entry of the city It's a really nice slow paced tiny little trippy twilight zone style coastal town. I'd call it quaint but that would not give it proper credit I however am discriminated on for doing the right thing and have been impeded from moving back after all the good I did for others because it cost me money and made them look bad Should have kept their noses clean paid me and provided proper housing like I did for others also maybe don't mess with former federal employees smarter and more skilled than you who knows the law because someone else told you to That's why the federal government backed me up And why ya buddy and his silly lawyer who thought he was smarter lost a federal lawsuit to a random guy on disability with no back up You're welcome for saving those people and your taxes that I don't have to pay since none of you could handle it I'll be back Discrimination is wrong
