Our guide recommended using the lift at Monchsbergaufzug to reach the top of the mountain for a beautiful view of the city. Walked from the walking tour to the end of the shopping street. Then hugged the street along the mountain to find the elevator lift entrance. It is where the lift goes to the Modern Art Museum. Paid €4.80 for a round trip tickets. Less than a minute later, we were at the viewing platform. Wow! What a view!! Definitely worth the trip up and the lift saved us valuable time as we only had a couple of hours to explore independently. So nice to see the rooftops of the cathedrals, the fortress, city hall and the river with several bridges. Stunning!! Also spent a few minutes looking at Sky Space by American light artist James Turrell. An unexpected find. Definitely go for the views....and if you are short on time. Take the lift.

That said, the view at the top of it is tremendous…read more Mönchsbergaufzug is the elevator that brings you up Mönchsberg, one of the mountains in Salzburg as well as to the entrance of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg which is situated on it. The elevator is your standard version. It isn't see through so there is no view to speak of. And the elevator ride is very brief. Cost of taking the elevator up and down is €3.60. Though you get one free ride if you have a Salzburg Card. I would combine this trip with a visit to the Museum der Moderne at the same time if you do. When you do exit the elevator, make your way to the right and head outside the doors. There you will find a viewpoint which is a terrific place to take aerial pictures of Salzburg. If you are looking for a Facebook friendly place to take pictures of your trip to this beautiful city, make your way to this elevator.

We took bus #25 from the center of town to the cable car station. The cars start going up at…read more8:30am every half an hour until about 5pm. The view from atop is breathtaking. The Untersberg massif, which spans approximately 70 km², is located right on the border with Bavaria. The Untersberg cable car starts in St. Leonhard near Grödig and leads to the Geiereck, from where we enjoyed breathtaking panoramic views of the Alps and the Salzburg valley area....we loved the views, the fresh air and the whole cable car/gondola experience. Many people go hiking right off the station at the top. We did not, but we can see how others would enjoy the trails during any of the four seasons of the year. It is included in the Salzburg Card if you have one.

There's a huge lot if you drove or take bus 25 to the very last stop. Breath taking views of the alps. It was cold and with fresh powdery snow. Make sure you wear appropriate shoes with tracking if you plan to go further out in the snow. Takes another 30 minutes to hike to the peak which is the highest peak in Austria. Going down was more dangerous than going up.

They then offered us an inside table with a view of the wall. If they had explained early in the exchange why they weren't serving outside there would have been no problem. That was the last thing we were told by another person. The rating is based on our first contact which was inappropriate. We saw that the food was not highly rated but the view could make up for that.
