It is very clean, well organized and has that Louisiana tasteful flair. The bathroom was impeccable with fresh flowers. A very nice touch. There's a whole boardwalk situated above a pond in the back of the building with all kinds of birds, fish, and trees. The ladies in the visitor center were so nice and helpful. I now have all kinds of resources and websites to see what's going on around daily, weekly, monthly and I learned a little more history about the place I call home. So glad I stopped by.

There was some helpful information about the surrounding bayou region, fishing, wildlife and local attractions but it's clear that they are still finding their footing. The staff were genuinely nice, but it seems like they're still getting comfortable in their roles so they weren't really able to answer my questions and the other gentleman talking to them seemed more interesting in chatting than getting any real information. They were eager to try and help though and that means a lot. The bathrooms were spotless and they had dum-dums out (I sure hope they were for visitors because I took one). I'm a sucker for Dum Dums (pun intended) So they definitely get extra points just for that. Having a little sweet treat out for your visitors is a small but very thoughtful touch. This definitely feels like one of those places that's going to be fantastic once it fully hits its stride. The building is lovely and has plenty of space. I really liked the few costumes and exhibits that they had out so far and the spirit to be helpful is definitely there as well.

The Baseline: For a national park/monument visitor's center the facility must be informative, have…read moregreat exhibits, and have a park rangers that are knowledgeable of one of the United States' greatest ideas ever implemented that is the National Parks of America. Facility: The New Orleans Jazz/Jean Lafitte French Quarter Visitors Center is a clean, well presented center with great displays and a well organized gift store. Personnel: The park rangers were friendly and informative about the activities in the park. We were given several suggestions of visiting the preserve and the local battlefield as well as information on those locations. The rangers have to be public relations and gift shop customer service at the same time so be kind to your National Park Ranger. They also run programs to educate on the parks and monuments. Stamps: You can get your passport stamps next to the gift shop and Ranger's info station. Special note: If you have young kids or want to be a kid yourself make sure to take advantage of the Junior Rangers program. You will learn and enjoy the National Park more that way.

But what amazed me is the security guard had blinds down and was knocked out sleeping during the day. They have family children that stop at these rest areas and if they say security is on the premises then they should be out of there shed patrolling the ground and being seen not sleeping on duty. I was here for over an hour and he stayed sound asleep the whole time never came out the security shed. Mississippi do better get better security or you will have a lawsuit on your hands.
