A thoroughly dreadful experience. We had a towbar fitted in an emergency as I had to take a mare and foal for treatment. We set off, wrongly assuming that the job had been done properly. The tow bar made some fearful knocking noises and when we reached our destination I sent a message to my husband telling him of the weird noises. On my return home we discovered that the towbar simply had not been tightened properly and was rocking up and down!! This was witnessed by the gentleman who sold us a new vehicle some days before. ( the reason why we needed a tow bar as it didn't have one) As farmers we tow things every day and have a shed load of experience. On contacting the company, after taking a video, we were met with a blatant denial that the bar was not fitted properly and the same fitter returned , blatantly lying that it was properly tightened the first time!! As extremely busy people we expected the job to be right and are not in the habit of complaining for no reason. I cannot overstate how much our safety was compromised ( and that of every other road user) and on the night in question I was driving in the dark over some extremely steep hills. The response from the company was not even polite and we would question the "qualifications" of their "fitters" We have informed the police of our video and noted the registration of the fitter's van. We are now pursuing this through Consumer Direct and other channels as this risk to everyone has to be stopped at once. We were extremely fortunate that with all the rocking from this shabbily fitted towbar that the bolts did not shear straight through the metal before I reached home read more
