A clean train station downtown. Quick and efficient. I visited the Tower City train station (Public Square stop) in early September 2024 when I went to a Cleveland Guardians baseball game with a friend. We both started at the West 25th Ave. stop at the West Side Market in Ohio City and it only took 1 stop, less than 4 minutes, to get to Tower City. Once inside Tower City, we walked for about 8 minutes inside the walkway that connects to Progressive Field where the Guardians play. Once the game was over, we found the outside door that leads us back into the inside walkway back to the Tower City stop. The actual train station is nice and clean. There are benches to sit on before you get to the area where the train is. Those benches, located right by where you purchase tickets, are super clean. Once you're in the section where the train arrives, there are benches there too but they looked a bit dirty plus that area is slightly dark. I recommend standing and not sitting while waiting for the train, if you can. Tower City - Public Square is a fun place for all ages. Tower City has a mall, Post Office, Casino, Marriott Hotel attached and a Ritz Carlton too!! Administrative offices and a transit train station are on the lower level. There's plenty of variety of meal choices in the food court too. I'm sure in its hey day it was the place to be! It's a large complex but easy to navigate. It's fun walking around and seeing everything. They have plenty of places for you to sit and relax too. read more

This place made me feel like I was in New York City but I definitely didn't like how absolutely dark this place was when coming in for the first time. Feels like a dungeon. I love that the platform is huge. Staff here was a bit helpful on my way here. Thankfully I did feel safe while I was at this station. read more

Easy enough to locate and navigate, the Tower City RTA station is completely underground. It's in the center and underneath a small shopping center with clothing, food and coffee vendors about. Decent enough signage to find your way down to the tracks area, though I'm glad that I wasn't trying to find my way out the first time I used the station. It's not completely easy to get from the tracks to the right part of the Tower City building. On a weekend without the usual heavy traffic, the folks hanging around seemed a little sketchy. But if you keep moving along and ignore the panhandler or two, you'll be fine. read more

This station serves the Red, Green, and Blue Lines in Cleveland's Rapid light-rail system. When I lived in Cleveland, I normally caught the Red Line at the Ohio City station, but once or twice I caught the train here because I happened to be downtown. The station itself can be hard to find if you're not familiar with Tower City. Getting here involves a lot of stair (or is it escalator?) climbing. But when you finally do get down here, you'll be thrilled to be in a strange subterranean station that doesn't really look like it belongs in Cleveland. OK, maybe you won't be thrilled, but I always was. And maybe it does look like it belongs in Cleveland, but I never thought it did. People made a big deal in 2000 or so because they filmed part of a (pre-West Wing) Rob Lowe HBO movie in this station. I was less than pleased, though, because the station was closed that day and I needed to take the Red Line to the airport. read more

Nine times out of ten, this place earns four stars. That tenth time though.... ever since they started the digital pass, there's been issues. The attendant has to look at your pass on your phone and open the turnstile. Shouldn't be an issue. But when the attendant is too busy talking to the RTA cop about last nights game to be bothered, you miss your train, and your connecting bus, and an hour and a half of sleep. I am surprised to hear that Cleveland now has an underground train that takes you places. I did not know that they have this now available for those that don't have their own car or that there are major problems with your car. Back in the nineties and through out the two thousands Cleveland did not have any buses nor subway that can give others a ride. if you did not have your own car, you had to have someone pick you up or drop you off to your destination. Everyone used their car to get a ride from someone. (Which now seems old school.) It is good to hear that there are now buses and subways it makes Cleveland now modern and less old school. read more

I have taken the "Rapid" many times over there years. I never fully understood why it is called the Rapid as it stops for automobiles. If it were a true rail system like Chicago, the cars stop for it. Be careful on some of the lines at night as the riders get very scetchy. I have witnessed two fights over the years and both times was terrified. The city of Cleveland wonders why it loses money year after year. How about because it works on the honor system! For instance, I rode the Red Line from West 25th station to the Airport. There was no ticket checker or turnstyle at either stop. Yes I paid the $2.25, but after I realized I could have just done it for free. How many residents from the East 40th to East 170th block of Cleveland are taking advantage of this? read more

Friends, we have an emergent situation with RTA I claim is alarming. The stations and rail infrastructure have been shit the past year. You will have elevators and escalators out of service with a system of customer service and operations that can be staggeringly awful at times. We saw witness for the Cavs parade the capacity scale respond in meager retreat to the demands many larger metropolitan cities accommodate daily. The weekend outages at various rail stations on east and west side and replacement buses can be a test in humility for those who seek something approaching half of a standard for public commute. The murals on the east and west routes are an improvement from the hack street graffiti yet the timing with the past RNC seems dubious. I challenge RTA aggressively to determine effective innovations to their depleted funding from both public and private financial sources. Let's cite for example the design of their newer stations like east 55th, costing near of ten million dollars (??) and one of their central hubs for operations personnel as well. As you may know each of the rail station stops at this location, blue, green, and red line. The platforms are set such that if I was to travel from 55th to public square, you can't immediately jump on the next rail because the platforms have high and low concrete grounding. This is a rather goofy approach to architecture. I believe we probably have some unsavory political dimension to it as RTA administratively has some heavy stupid going on at times. Perhaps an effective solution would be a more robust electronic banner system to display time to arrive, yet a strong undercurrent of property damage hooliganism seems to prevent these standards. The controversial disabling of RTA service in the new public square is just right in my opinion.. Why does one have to have clunky eyesore buses stamped with personal injury lawyer advertisements run through city center when adjacent downtown corridors minutes walk away are more effectively routed. Again an element of design and politics RTA fails to recognize as their own shortcoming. The RTA commuter witnessed rate hikes recent and will face graduated increases in the years to come. I'm rooting for you RTA leaders, yet as of late you are very disappointing. By month end my pass is often worn and unable to be machine read, a sign of lost opportunity, yet I also see a beacon and a call for new innovation in our transportation systems for our new digital age. read more

This is the most convenient way to get around Cleveland especially when you are traveling to Ohio City, University Square, Lakewood, and other neighborhoods. It's very easy to navigate and the train schedules are linked to Google Maps transit feature (just download the Google Maps app and type in the address or name of the location you are trying to travel to and it will give you detailed directions to catch the right train or bus. It's been a lifesaver for me many times!). If you are traveling into downtown from another part of the city, there are many RTA park and ride locations which are usually more convenient and cheaper than parking downtown, especially when there is a game or event taking place. It's fairly clean and safe and it's monitored by the RTA police and I can't say enough good things about them. They go above and beyond the call of service to keep riders safe. read more

You've got to be crazy to take this RTA station. We witnessed someone shoplift from the Tower City mall upstairs and then head straight to this station. My guess is that he didn't bother to purchase a ticket lol. read more

I really enjoy the RTA in Cleveland. Some of the highlights are the Red Line, the Health Line, and the transit hub in the bottom of Tower City. I took the train to commute to work from Ohio City to Downtown for many years and it was always very easy. read more

The walk to progressive field was confusing for me from this stop. I left from Puritas which wasn't fun because of all the stairs, then the train doesn't drop you off very close to the stadium. I paid $10 for parking on the NE side of the stadium the next day and it was much easier. read more

Cleveland RTA must be the worst transportation system ever! If you're new to it, good luck figuring out how to purchase a ticket for your ride, since you can't pay cash. Out of 4 machines that sells RTA passes at Tower City, 2 will not accept my credit card (tried many times), and they all use the most horrific User Interface that makes the process unnecessary complicated and clunky. And as I just found out, you are not supposed to "activate" your pass, because if you do, it charges you for a full ride (?!?!?). It still doesn't make any sense to me why they give that option without explaining it, and the only conclusion I can make that it's a scam to get more money from ppl who don't pay attention to how many rides they actually get from their 5-ride pass (the RTAs answer is 4) Another problem is with their notification system that is never updated and never shows the correct times of departures and next trains. Overall, RTA is a joke and I wish RTA management was required take their own trains and purchase their own passes through their unusable machines. read more

The mobile service is not fully function in most of the basement level - definitely not track side. This is a problem because there are not multiple signs listing arrival time (there is one facing the doors as you enter the waiting area). It would be nice to be able to use your phone (WiFi would be a fine solution) to check on train times as you wait. Or they could move the sign / add more signs. Kept quite clean down here actually I'm well pleased - both inside the waiting area and in the center ticketing lobby. If you have questions there are plenty of RTA workers and transit police around to provide help and if you need a map this location is your best bet of finding one (they always seem to be out on the rail cars and trolleys). Sometimes when the lines are really long there is a thoughtful worker who will just open the gates and let everyone through who shows a ticket instead of making every person scan it through the machine individually. This is not a bad place to be dropped off - there are coffee shops upstairs (Caribou and independent ones). You can connect to the free trolleys in Public Square, the Healthline in Public Square (going a bit farther east), or from right in the basement change to the blue/green line (going the farthest east). If you've purchased an all day pass it will work on the latter two options and for the former no ticket is needed. read more

Okay for a train station. Located in a huge mall which I liked. Pretty cheap fares for an all-day pass but the staff could have been a bit more cheerful and the station could have been a little cleaner. Overall a good experience and is definitely worth the money. BUT IT IS VERY SLOW. Took forty minutes to go eight stops. Also, the trains run every twenty minutes so if you miss the train by two minutes it's a long wait. There are little to no benches in the station so we had to stand up for twenty minutes, which wasn't fun. But a good deal still. read more

I live out west in Vermilion and just recently started a job at the Justice Center in downtown Cleveland. I dread the morning and afternoon commute and expensive parking so I am now driving to the Triskett Road RTA rail station, parking for free, and riding into Tower City for $2.25 each way. THIS, is a great alternative to driving all the way into downtown but still not ideal. WHY doesn't the city EXPAND this light rail service to other major suburbs around downtown? It would solve much of the traffic and parking problems and ENCOURAGE people to visit and work downtown. Imagine this... RTA rail stops in Westlake around Crocker Park, stops towards Strongsville around Southpark Mall, stops as far west as Lorain would be AWESOME and INCREASE movement of people into downtown to work, play, eat, shop, gamble, etc! This seems like a no-brainer to me. I encourage those people in charge of these things to consider this as the number ONE way to increase commerce and bring the suburbs back into Cleveland. read more
