    You stand in line outside!

Somehow I have never taken a train before. I arrived at the last minute, literally 7 minutes before my train was scheduled to leave. Luckily for me the train was here and running on time! I read the other reviews first so I really did not want to spend ANY time inside the station. I found what seemed like the last parking spot, grabbed my bag and got in line. The guy at the train door gives you your seat number but he might not tell you what the is handing you. I was so confused, like what is this little piece of paper?? Then once the train starts, they come around just like on the movies and ask for your ticket. I was blown away. The seat I had was spacious, clean and comfortable. Really cheap and easy way to travel if you can catch a train that is actually on time. I guess I will try this again.

The Amtrack staff were super friendly and answered all my questions with patience I had (this was my first Amtrack trip). It definitely could use a update but it was pretty clean and smelled neutral. I wasn't sure about parking so I just parked in a public garage 1.6 miles away and took a Lyft. It was $17 on the way at 1am and a whopping $25 to pick us up at 3:30am to take us back to the garage + the cost of parking. Hindsight I would just leave my car in the Amtrak lot. It's fenced in and is locked when Amtrack is closed.

The person that uploaded pics of another Amtrak station (maybe Chicago?) is getting your hopes up too high. This is not like the Union Stations or even Albany station. It's more like a bus station with uncomfortable plastic seats and outdated brown decor. However it looks pretty clean and well run - there are working bathrooms, vending machines, water fountains. The staff are not necessarily friendly but they are helpful with clear announcements and ushering you onto the track. There are only four trains that leave out of this station and all really early in the morning so the station hours are just midnight to 7:30a. So far I've only taken the Lake Shore trains from Cleveland to New York, but both times, they arrived/departed on time. The walk to/from station to Downtown really early in the morning does not feel unsafe just mostly surreal - like you are in an episode of The Prisoner because the town is eerily quiet and completely empty. Just note that to avoid extra driving or walking, you need to approach from E9th St or E3rd St to enter station.

Ugh. The Cleveland station is similar to walking the plank. It was dirty, smelly and scary. Will never return ... ever.

    Ask the Community - Amtrak

Is the Cleveland station safe for very early morning departures and arrivals.?

Depends on your definition of safe....been there twice in those early hours with no issues but have to be aware of surroundings due to proximity to town....

The cleveland station is very low key compared to Orlando, Chi-town or Boston, but it has it's charm.

Quick and efficient…read more I visited the Tower City train station (Public Square stop) in early September 2024 when I went to a Cleveland Guardians baseball game with a friend. We both started at the West 25th Ave. stop at the West Side Market in Ohio City and it only took 1 stop, less than 4 minutes, to get to Tower City. Once inside Tower City, we walked for about 8 minutes inside the walkway that connects to Progressive Field where the Guardians play. Once the game was over, we found the outside door that leads us back into the inside walkway back to the Tower City stop. The actual train station is nice and clean. There are benches to sit on before you get to the area where the train is. Those benches, located right by where you purchase tickets, are super clean. Once you're in the section where the train arrives, there are benches there too but they looked a bit dirty plus that area is slightly dark. I recommend standing and not sitting while waiting for the train, if you can. My friend and I already bought our 1-day RTA pass at the West 25th station but if you need train tickets, you can buy them at the Tower City stop. **** GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024 - 97/150 total reviews in 2024 - 746 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 29 September 2024

The actual train ride was quick and smooth from the West 25th stop to the Tower City stop. We only sat on the train for about 3-4 minutes because Tower City was the very next train stop. The West 25th station though is abysmal. Since the Yelp page is for the train station stop itself and not the train ride, I'm rating it a 2/5. DECLINING CONDITION -- While the ticket buying process is super quick and easy (buy at a pay station machine), the actual waiting area for the train is terrible. The whole waiting area reeks (smells) of urine. It is also dirty down there. I would not recommend coming here by yourself because it is below ground so it is quiet and you may not feel safe being alone especially at night. I was with a friend when I arrived and there was just one other person there. A few minutes later, others arrived who happened to also be going to a baseball game, as evidenced from their baseball gear (t-shirts). I did not see any train attendant booth here so if you have a question, no one will be able to help you unless you call a staff member on your phone. Thankfully, the whole process in buying a ticket and waiting for a train was very easy so my friend and I did not need help. Besides the smell and old nature of this atop, they do have functioning elevator so if you are handicapped, you will be able to go down to where the train arrives and departs. My friend and I used the stairs since we didn't need to use the elevator. **** GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024 - 98/150 total reviews in 2024 - 747 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 29 September 2024

Avis Car Rental closes at 12:00AM. They no longer answer the phone at their rental locations and so we could not find out what would happen to our reservation if our flight was late. We canceled with Avis at the airport and instead booked a reservation at their convenient downtown location. This saved us $250.00 in car rental fees because it was 12 hours shorter and did not include airport taxes and duties.
