The wide assortment of beautiful, rich, fresh and very colorful Mums instantly caught my eye. These are so big and full of volume. They had orange, yellow, red, even white, I don't think I've seen white Mums before. Of course, they also had every pumpkin under the sun, in every shape, size and color. Inside they sell gardening supplies, and decor for your garden. I thought it was interesting that they have antique jewelry for sale at this nursery. They also have a beautiful greenhouse. I really enjoyed browsing through so much of their colorful inventory. Their prices are a bit higher on the Mums. This is a lovely nursery worthy of your visit!

If you are even slightly empathic, you'll notice the trees feel alive, rather than confused, as you find in chain stores. Equally, there is a rich and thought-provoking variety of trees/plants/bushes for native landscapes, with some that are wildlife-friendly. (I'm thrilled when I get to one end, and realize I still have rows and rows more to choose from!) The living, wholesome trees makes a difference when they get replanted, as they're more likely to adapt, and thrive. Competitively priced, and better than any nursery in the local area or online. Worth your time, just to bend the ear of the knowledgeable staff. Also has a nice store for gifts/goodies that are local (try the soap, esp.) Tie this in with a trip to Bell & Raven or Popovers for lunch a real local treat and outing on a Sunday. I'm thankful for Warner's, as I would be forced to buy online or not at all, but here, I can take my time, dream and design, with help, and beautiful trees! My favorite thing to do is to ask which trees want to come home, and see which ones bend a branch! Enjoy!

They sell plants and flowers, but I didn't pay attention to that aspect of their operations. Cold Spring sells some of their own produce, products from other CT Farms and/or Orchards, Cold Spring branded products such as salsa, and other area products such as bread from a local bakery. I bought green cabbage, peaches, celery and salsa. Everything seemed appropriate quality for seasonal CT produce. The produce I didn't buy also looked good and represented what's in season pretty well. I will definitely go back for in season produce since I live in the area. This is an observation as opposed to a criticism. The reason I'm giving Cold Brook 4 Stars rather than 5 Stars relates to the extent of their offerings compared to another Farm Stand I frequently visit that's a bit farther away. That Farm Stand has a wide range of partnerships with high end CT businesses and they have things like high quality bagels, cheeses, pies, cupcakes, ice cream sandwiches, etc. That Farm Stand also has a wider range of canned goods, meats, and dairy products etc. I would travel farther to a Farm Stand like that because there are more products that interest me. Cold Spring will be the place I go for convenience when I want in season produce for a few days.

As they price individually and in sets, you may end up bringing home more plants than planned, but this is a good spot to get it all started. We now have a glorious set of tomatoes in progress, and now a couple extra tomato planters. The double decker wagons all over also help you take home more. The little farm store, extra colorful with its murals, has honey, maple syrup, salsa, and maybe more on down the season. It's neat to see start and end of season at the checkout, and the staff was kind. Thankfully there is extra parking is on both sides of the farm store, in case you're driving East, just look out for wagon traffic on your way through each greenhouse.

Easily could be a 5 star establishment but the inconsistent customer service is really making it…read morehard for me to want to return. I love coming here- their variety of plants is unmatched! My husband came here earlier this week and could not stop talking about how nice everyone was. I was so pleased to hear this so when we realized we needed another lambs ear plant I decided to go with him to pick it up. Upon entering you are greeted by everyone. Definitely nice workers (in orange attire). However it stops there once you get to the register. I needed another lambs ear plant to match the one my husband got two days prior. Unfortunately all of these plants were not in the best condition. I needed to get one to match the one we got a couple days before but because it wasn't 100% healthy I assumed they would not charge me full price as there were no other plants in better condition. When I inquired at the register the woman was super nice and tried to see if they had any more. Unfortunately they did not and only had what was out. Meanwhile as she is on the phone talking to the staff, an older gentleman immediately turned away from me and said "I don't have time for this" and huffed at me. He basically made the woman at the register take care of me when he clearly was a supervisor or something and could've acknowledged my concern. After a worker came up to me to assess the plant he seemed a little uneasy when the older gentleman all angry was nearby and said my plant was fine. I'll attach pictures but I really don't think I should've spent full price on something that wasn't this unhealthy two days ago. I'm hoping it will revive like the man said but considering I am a returning customer I found the whole situation off putting. I mean even if they couldn't give me a discounted rate for the unhealthy plant at least tell me when you'd get more in that would be in a better condition. There was literally no conversation. Probably will not be coming here again unless I really need something unique.

This was most likely due…read moreto the fact that have been to similar garden centers in the area that had limited selection and high prices. My first time in I was surprised that the prices were not at the usual "we are in the Farmington Valley so lets screw them" levels. I was also really surprised how many of the customers they knew by name. Nothing speaks as well of a business as having such long term customers that you know many on a first name basis. I big plus for me is that they have a large selection organic gardening supplies. More than anyone in the area and at fair prices. (Not to get off track but if you vegetable garden you get better yields and quality if you go organic. I made the switch several years ago and haven't looked back.) Bidwell's also has that true garden center atmosphere. Garden stuff, fireplace stuff, bird stuff, and even a friendly cat that sleeps in the box of peat pots. In short, a good friendly place that may just have that odd yard, garden, or pet thing you are looking for at OK prices.
