I like the swings here, but I don't like the big slide. It's too hard to get up because you have to climb up the ropes. I wish they had steps to get up the big slide. read more

I love this park! It is the perfect little gem in this Penrose neighborhood. Located on Scott Street you have a kiddie play ground, basketball court, a grilling/BBQ area, 4 tennis courts, a volleyball play area and there are 2 adjacent enclosed dog play areas! Not to mention so much green space. You have to be careful pet owners because the neighbors will call animal control if you walk your dog without a leash. I found out the hard way *annoyed face*. Yeah I know it's more for the dogs safety than for us two legged animals. read more

This is another nice dog park in Arlington! It is a bit hard to find since it is not at the corner of Columbia Pike as the map shows. Go down the street a bit and you'll find it just beyond and adjacent to the Tower Park Tennis courts. This park consists of two separate play areas, each with independent dual gate entryways. The ingenuous design combines the tennis fence with the dog park fence which has an added benefit of creating and the holy grail for dog parks - a never ending supply of fresh tennis balls! #BarkOutLoud! The surface is mostly gravel, there's an obstacle or two (see pictures) and as always they provide the typical dog park water tower. There's also a random water bowl left there so your dog can drink out of it. There's plenty of shade for the humans and a picnic table for them too! They say a tired dog is a happy dog, and so we try to take our little guy here as often as we can! The people who bring their pups here are usually friendly, respectful, and understanding of doggy park etiquette. During these hot summer days, it's especially nice that there is a water fountain for dogs and that most of the area is shady due to trees. Also, one of my favorite features is that the park has lights so you aren't limited to the hours between sunrise and sunset. There isn't much grass, but the dirt doesn't have a lot of rocks or other debris in it that could injure a dog's paw. And in case you prefer a separate, quieter space, there is actually a smaller fenced off area with its own entrance adjacent to the main dog park. Along with the dog park, there are tennis, basketball, and sand volleyball courts, a picnic area, and bathroom facilities. The parking lot is small and can sometimes get a little crowded during peak hours, but usually I don't have an issue. Overall, this park is highly recommended! read more

This place is a magnet for bad dogs and owners who don't care or can't control their pets. There are actually signs at the entrance into the dog park that are looking for information for incidents that occurred there with a dog. If you have a dog: DO NOT bring them here. This review isn't for the rest of the facilities at Towers Park, but for the dog park. The tennis and basketball courts looked well-maintained and there are quite a few big trees and grills. The dog park is more like a dog yard. Very small relative to the size of other area dog parks. It is mostly wood chips, not grass, which is distracting if you have a dog like mine. It also is very poorly lit and feels enclosed, exactly the opposite of what I think a dog park should be. The small dog area is hidden in back, which makes it necessary to walk through the big dogs. Normally, our puppy likes big dogs, but in this case, one attacked him on the way to the puppy area. The dog in question was very aggressive and territorial, not the kind you take to a dog park on a weekend morning. As his owner apologized, she said she is 'always' there. Eek. Unsurprisingly, I won't be taking my dog back there. read more

I discovered Towers Park while looking for an apartment in the area. As a dog owner, I was immediately attracted by its sizeable fenced-in dog park; it's definitely one of the nicest dog parks in Arlington, with tons of trees for shade and lots of dogs in the evening. There's also a separate puppy/small dog area for those with smaller dogs. The park is hidden a block off of Columbia Pike, and is always pretty quiet. There are four tennis courts and one basketball court (all tend to fill up quickly in the evenings). All in all it's a great park, and was one of the main reasons I chose an apartment right next door! read more

This review is only for the dog park. I brought my dog here for about a year before I stopped. I have a large dog who is friendly, but very playful and active (I'll explain why I say this in a minute). Here are the pros and cons: Pros: - very convenient location and it is not off a main road. (It is right off of Scott Street). - lit at night - decent size, with a small dog area - tennis court next door which means there are ample tennis balls usually available Neutral: - primarily small to med-small dogs (this is actually the primary reason I switched dog parks) - primarily gravel (this is a preference thing... I'd like more grass) Cons: - there is a water fountain for dogs, but they turn it off in the winter (so bring water!) - no bags (occasionally people leave extra bags in the mailbox inside, but that's rare and if you forget a bag, prepare to be judged) - primarily small dogs... I put this in neutral category, but I'll elaborate here - the small dog area is rarely ever used. In fact I had some bad experiences with the older regulars basically telling me my dog was too active and I needed to separate myself and go to the small sectioned off area... These regularly also like to complain about everything (including where your dog relieves themselves) and so I ended up giving in and leaving rather than feeling aggravated every time I went Bottom line: I see this more as a small dog park. Occasionally I've seen large dogs there but not as often as I used to. I like the location and it not being on a Main Street is actually quite nice. I also like the fact that it is lit at night. That said, some of the regulars there make it aggravating and I now go further up the road to the park on Walter Reed Drive (many more large dogs can be seen there). read more

Great area. Review is for dog park but it should be noted the basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts look great. The park is mostly gravel with little patches of grass and seating. Lots of room for pups to run around and a water fountain is a available too. I only deducted a star because they have no doggy doodoo bags available even though they claim to so dont forget to bring enough. read more

This is the dog park I take my dog to most days. The people here are friendly and I've never had an issue with any aggressive dogs here. My one and only complaint is that I'm not a fan of the material on the ground (dirt with gravel on top). The only reason I don't like it is my dog gets really dirty (especially since they added little kiddie pools). I'd prefer grass, but other than that, I really enjoy this park. Bonus, because the tennis courts border the dog park, there is always an abundance of tennis balls to throw around. I'll also second what Jill J. posted that if you have a small dog, you do not need to enter through the large dog area. There is a separate entrance on the other side of the small dog area. read more

This is a great little park off of Columbia pike.. It's a medium sized, around 50 x 25 yrs and also has a separate area in the back in the case that that one extremely aggressive dog is in the main area. It's well lit at night and although it is only around 40% grass, the rest is more like fine gravel than dirt so it is never too muddy after it rains. Although there are signs up all over telling you to pick up your dog poop, there is always someone that doesn't so be aware of your step while in the grass. Parking is sometimes limited later in the day as it is right next to the basketball courts and behind the tennis courts, but the good thing about this is there's always tons of balls for the dogs to play with. Although I think this park is one of the better ones in the area, I've recently found a bunch of glass(like a couple broken bottles worth within a 5 foot area) near one of the back trees. I know this gets mowed by the county, but not sure if they pick up things that are thrown in there. read more

Great dog park. It's not nearly as big as Shirlington, but it's a nice-sized space where plenty of pups can run around together and get plenty of exercise. There is a smaller fenced-in area for smaller dogs, but contrary to the review below you don't actually have to walk through the larger part of the dog park to get there. You can enter that way if you choose to (there are double gates connecting them), but the small dog area has its own entrance as well. This place seems to attract nice people who seem to be responsible dog owners, and I love that there are lights for the evenings. read more

Anyways, back to the dog park: I (and my dachshund) love it here and go several times a week. There's tons of room for dogs to run and play, picnic tables for sitting (in the shade!), and a generally nice group of owner and dog "regulars". They even have a separate area for smaller or aggressive dogs, but my small dog has always been fine with the larger dogs (there's a good range of sizes, too). I've only had a handful of times where I've felt uncomfortable with a dog there. I am very grateful for such a nice dog park so close by! read more

2nd best Arlington dog park, but gets extra points for being close to our house. Unlike other smaller Arlington dog parks, there are always dogs here for your dog to play with. The after work hours tend to have up to 10 dogs running around. The dogs are generally well adjusted and friendly, but does skew towards the larger dog spectrum. Patrons are friendly, but some seem happy to ruin everyone's enjoyment of the outdoors by blowing a butt at the picnic table. Hidden from Columbia Pike, Towers Dog Park is a nice, little local secret. read more

This is a great little dog park with mostly responsible owners and mostly friendly, safe dogs, not enormous enough to lose your dog in, and shady and not too crowded. I like to take my knitting on weeknights and we've established a little knitting group that usually meets up around seven PM. There's also a large feild with a picnic area that's great for walking through after playing in the park. The dog area is right next to a tennis court, so there are always tennis balls around. There isn't too much wrong with this park, but there are a few things that could be nicer: A few years ago, there were several malicious poisonings. No arrests were ever made, but poisoned cupcakes and hot dogs were found scattered along the fenceline behind the trees on the west side of the park near the military installation. It was a few years ago and nothing has been reported since, but I always keep a SUPER close eye on my dog if she's back there. There is something in the dirt that makes it very attractive to dogs. They tend to dig and eat at it occasionally. It's supposed to be covered up with lots of mulch to discourage them from digging, but there hasn't been any fresh mulch in there for a long time. Although most of the dogs are great and well behaved, there are a few people who bring their aggressive dogs, or bring their small unvaccinated puppies into the large dog area and start screaming bloody murder if another dog so much as looks at them, but I think that's normal for any dog park. New favorite dog park! My boyfriend and I have a very tiny pup (think less than 5 lbs) and we've been on the hunt for a great place for her! We used to go to the Clarendon park but it's always packed and made her nervous. We found this place and fell in love. The dogs (and owners) seem to be nice and respectful, and there are tons of tennis balls around (genius whoever thought to put it next to a tennis court)! It's shady and has a ton of room to run. There is also a smaller, secluded park that is for smaller dogs - though a regular told us it was used more for aggressive dogs. Nonetheless our Sadie has made some friends and we will be here weekly! read more

We visited in the middle of July with our two yorkies. The big dog area looks great as does the rest of the park. The small dog area was terrible. You can either cut through the big dog area to get to it or walk through an overgrown field. The small dog area is tiny which wasn't a huge deal, but the grass clearly hasn't been cut in a while as it was 8-10 inches long. There are gaps in the fence that a small dog could easily fit through and a few holes that could really hurt to step in. It seemed abandoned. I won't go back. read more

Still great for the big dogs that live nearby, but Shirlington Puppy Park is the place to go for small dogs. Enter Main dig park East end of Shirlington park off S.
