The only time on the website/posters was "doors open at 8:30pm". Once there (around 8:30) we are told that the doors open at 10pm and the show will start at 11pm. Earlier in the night, we sat upstairs at large-table bench seating in a covered, semi-outdoor area with music. I enjoyed their Orchard Thieves apple cider, and from what I saw others got either beer, cider, or shots from the bar. Later we migrated downstairs to their club/stage area for the drag show. The Queens were absolutely fabulous and put on a wonderful show for us. It was a great night!

You know you've walked into a Trad shop when next to the musical instruments, sheet music, and…read moreIrish tapes and CD's you encounter a huge glass case filled with tobacco pipes, a selection of macs and a bucket of walking canes. This shop has an assortment of musical instruments including concertinas, accordions, mandolins and even wooden spoons. They have a huge selection of sheet music with many contemporary songs as well as old favorites. I didn't find out much about the history of this shop while I was there, but I found this little blurb on Travelmuse.com: "This shop is steeped in history, located on the site of the Church of St.John of Jerusalem. This church was inhabited by the Jesuits until Cromwellian forces took it over in 1650. One possible explanation for why this spot is called the Four Corners is that this area was previously the only crossroads in Galway.The shop has been owned by Powell and Sons since 1918, when the family began selling snuff from the premises. They now specialize in traditional Irish and classical music, selling a varied range of musical instruments, tapes and CDs. Upstairs there are various painting implements such as paintbrushes, oils and charcoal."

Tigh Fox was the pub located above the hostel that I was staying at. I could hear the music when I…read morechecked in, so I decided to head down for a pint and to listen to some songs. There was a good mix of Celtic music (including songs everyone seemed to know the words to but me) and Johnny Cash. The next day I came back to Tigh Fox. There's no music in the day, but it was raining pretty fierce. When it's rainy (and cold) you want something warm to eat. I had bacon and cabbage. Pretty traditional type of dish. I really enjoyed it. This is a nice pub if you're in Galway. And it's only a short walk from the bus station and the train station. Definitely worth popping into for a drink or two.
