A nice quiet town to raise your family in. Good school district. Close to a town with all shopping needs.

According to the memorial, "Andre was born in Robinson's Rock in Penobscot Bay on May 16th, 1961. Abandoned at birth, he was found, befriended, raised, and trained by Harry Goodridge of Rockport, Maine. Andrew is honorary harbormaster of Rockport Harbor, and is a celebrity of more than local renown. His antics have delighted people far and wide. Andre is a Harbor Seal (phoca vitulina), the only species that occurs regularly in New England waters. This small park is marinated by the Rockport Garden Club for the pleasure of the public." According to Roadside America, Andre wintered at the New England Aquarium in Boston, but for 20+ years would be released so he could swim back to Rockport (a 150+ mile journey) to visit his friends. The granite statue you can visit today was placed in the park in 1978, apparently Andre himself was there to unveil it! Personally, I think it's super cool. Seals are one of my favorite animals and Maine is one of my favorite places, so of course I've visited. I sat with Andre, I pet his little nose. Maybe the locals thought I was super weird, but... they also have a seal as a harbor master, sooooooo. (This is also a super cute little park you can have a picnic in and watch the boats coming and going.)

The waves 2 hours after high tide were much louder than 30 minutes right before high tide at the thunder hole on a cloudy not too windy day. The rocks were also pretty cool to explore, lots of diversity in colors and layers upon layers. It was overcast when I went, but timing the visit with a gorgeous sunset would probably be one of the best experiences in visiting Acadia. Overall, it was a more peaceful, contemplative area of the park and worth the drive if you like a bit of isolation from all the noise/hustle on Mt. Desert and Bar Harbor. Plus there's so much parking.

I could just sit for hours watching the waves crash into the majority smooth granite rock that comprises the shoreline as far as the eyes can seen. There's one special section for me that is like Thunder Hole but better. Looking out into the ocean, you'll see the lobster buoys, waterfowl, fishing and tourist vessels, and maybe you'll get lucky and see a dolphin or two arcing over the water. Parking most of the time is easy to get. There's a decent bathroom down the gravel path, and feel free to bring an outdoor chair, towels for either comfort sitting on the granite or for drying off if you get a little ocean water on you, food for a picnic (watch out possibly for aggressive seagulls), and sunscreen/sunglasses. Once we had the seagulls, other times none were in sight. The park rangers do make regular rounds checking that you have a park pass. If not, be prepared to be ticketed and have to go to one specific place to pay for it. I believe Schoodic Point to be the best place in all of Acadia National Park. I look forward to coming every time I visit Maine. My pictures/videos do not do Schoodic Point justice. Please come and visit!

Schoodic Point - The towels are out and shoes off for some barefoot walking the smooth granite. The ocean was quite cold today on the feet but refreshing.
