Nice, historical sight with loads of history and information even without taking the tour. Just on the out squirts of the shady part(s) of the state, but right next to the police station. The water was really bustling on this day. On a day where I have more time I'll definitely have to take a more extended look.

But there are multiple tours during the day, so after perhaps watching the intro video, you can join one. The guide took us into the mill and demonstrated multiple machines used in various stages of cotton to thread production. It was great to see the process in front of us, and it was quite a complex process that required a lot of engineering using waterpower to get completed. I found it very informative, and the guide was able to answer all of our questions, so it's a great experience for kids and adults. No gift shop though, but there is a bathroom on site. The building was described to me as "yellow" when it's peach, but I won't fault that, just saying if you're looking for it, look for peach. There is parking across the street and a small lot next to it.

Had the chance to catch one of only 4 days that this historic site is open per year. It was really…read moreinteresting as one of the earliest surviving houses in Boston. It's owned by Historic New England and they seem to do a good job with limited funding. It would be nice if it was open to the public (other than schoolchildren) more often, but I'm sure it's a money issue. Anyway, we had a very enlightening tour at the Pierce House. The passion the staff have for the house is obvious. They do an excellent job explaining the shifts in the house as it was expanded over time. I like that they don't go overboard 'restoring' everything in site. It's clear that the house is, or at least was, a living thing that grew with its occupants. I hope they continue being able to preserve this site and restore things like the dairy it contains. The only thing I will say is that since they are only open 4 days a year, they seem to have a lot of pent up energy and information. Our tour was a bit long and super intense! It was like a deluge of information and we were drowning in it. While I can fully appreciate their investment in the site, I think they could work on giving a bit more streamlined tour and then maybe allowing people questions for some of the finer points. I learned more about joinery that I thought possible. . . . Pierce house is worth stopping by if you're in the area (check the website for the rare tour). It's really an important piece of surviving Boston history.

Otherwise, not a lot to do and see. He was disappointed a few restaurants and bookstores were gone. Just a record store standing. And the Citgo sign, the iconic landmark. A central area of Boston, close to major sites and Boston University campus. Worth checking it out while in town!

Originally a swampy corner of Brookline, it really started to be developed in the 1880s with streetcar tracks on Beacon Street. These eventally became the "C" branch of the T and then tracks on Commonwealth Avenue became the "B" branch. Remember, the MBTA is the oldest underground railway in America! Today, the area is surrounded by restaurants of both higher-end and takeaway and fast food. Hotels and apartments including the Kenmore Abbey. It's a busy intersection with cars, trucks, buses and the underground T. Tread carefully as a pedestrian. If you're headed to Fenway Park, get off the T here. Don't go to Fenway T station. The amount of information on the textile revolution is large and they have a 15 min video on the subject. Wendy was very nice and helpful showing me the various brochures and books highlighting the tourist attractions in the area....There are about 10,000 historical sites between Providence and Worcester related to textile mill history....just amazing.... Slater Mill (1793) was the first successful water-powered cotton spinning mill in the United States and the first property to be added to the National Register of Historic Places (November 1966). For more than two centuries, people have transformed Slater Mill. These workers have changed the meaning of the mill, from a place for making thread to a place for learning about the consequences of industry....so learning about all that history which was key for our country, was really interesting.... This site is part of the National Park service, so if you want a stamp for your collection, you can ask for it and they will gladly stamp your book for you.

A cultural treasurer that I never knew existed. I always knew the building was there, but the…read morestories of the history of RI written on the walls was very surprising to me. The space can be used for events and open to the public for learning and community engagement.
