They're all owned by passionate, cool locals who believe in what they do. But mostly, this update is just to show appreciation for a few things I often forget about Hingetown- how dog-friendly every business is, the beautifully manicured living wall, and the fact that the Transformer Station (a satellite CMA location) even exists here. I mean, where else can you pet tons of good doggos, see world class art and grab lunch? Since the last time I wrote this, new businesses like Larder Delicatessen, Saucy Brew Works and Title Kickboxing have opened. I can tell the people behind Hingetown are really trying to continuously add and improve. Still 5-stars in 2018!

It feels unnatural for me to call it that. I guess that is how the Native Americans felt when they turned this land into the United States of America. This area was once Cleveland's Gaytown. Food and architecture are two areas where it deserves far more recognition, and this market showcases both beautifully. 2. I'm coming back. 3. There is absolutely zero chance I stay in a hotel next time. I need a place with a kitchen. When I return, I fully intend to walk through this market, buy from no fewer than 10 stalls, and somehow end up preparing enough food for 25 people--even if it's only my family of four. The specialties here are endless. The uncooked pierogies nearly broke my heart because I had no way to take them home and cook them myself. Sausage lovers will be in heaven, and beyond that, you'll find incredible produce, fresh fish, quality proteins, and a wonderful representation of the many cultures that make Cleveland what it is. All of this is housed inside a historic building with stunning architecture that makes the experience even better. Pro tip: Climb the stairs to the second floor for an incredible bird's-eye view of the entire market. It's the perfect way to appreciate just how special this Cleveland landmark really is.

I visited Graffiti HeArt this past weekend after seeing their new mural on Instagram. It was a…read morequick bike ride from downtown (passing through Asiatown for treats, of course!). They give artists a platform to share their murals and street art across the city. Most of the eye catching art around the city was made possible by Graffiti HeArt! Their HQ building itself is a mural, titled "Beautifully Destroyed". Another mural shines right behind, facing East 49th. It was completed in August by Beau Stanton and features the iconic Cleveland Guardians of Traffic. The chandelier is 20 ft tall and has 4,200 crystals and is suspended from a 44 ft structure. It's pretty quirky and fun. It would be best of course to see it at night.

Me and my friend and fellow yelper Jeremy J Were here in town in November of 2020 for a Cleveland browns game and we stumbled upon this beauty while walking the surrounding areas and exploring. Very breathtaking and visual stunning piece that will catch the eye of anybody who comes across it. Very well done and cool and unique piece of Cleveland.

But I keep trying anyway hoping someday someone in the yelp chain of command will realize their significance. The part that annoys me most is there are PLENTY of pages on yelp dedicated to street art that DO show up in searches, but whenever I add a page, most times they do not. While street art is not technically a business, it sure can increase traffic to a business district. They are most often used to bring life to areas experiencing a revival of business. Miami based artist Tatiana Suarez proposed this design as a homage to Otis Redding and his last concert at Leo's Casino, one of the most racially integrated Cleveland night spots of its era. The owners of the building thought this idea was a perfect fit for their business - HAUSMALTS, a craft malting facility which provides grains to breweries & distilleries. An article I read on executivearrangements.com stated Tatiana wanted to remind us all of what is important and how music and art have the power to bring people of all colors together. THIS is why public murals should be celebrated. Not only for their beauty and ability to draw attention, but also for their universal messages. Anyways, if you are a fan of street art and happen to be in the Cleveland area, this is one not to be missed. Included is an informational plaque found on some of the newer murals which reads: Try a Little Tenderness While researching MidTown's neighborhood history, Suarez learned that singer Otis Redding's last performance was in Cleveland before his tragic plane crash. As a fan of Otis Redding, Suarez was inspired to by his song "Try a Little Tenderness." The mural includes a cardinal and carnation, the Ohio state bird and flower. The CLEVELAND WALLS! Wow, such an awesome event! A friend gave my fiancé and I some VIP tickets to the Bourbon Boxcar…read moretasting event this weekend and we both had a great time! The event was at Tenk on the west bank of the Flats and I think it was the perfect venue for it. The general admission line to get in was long and slow, but the VIP line moved pretty quickly! Lucky us. :D It started with a few displays showing water in a cave, wood and grains, along with a guide and prerecorded narrations on how bourbon is made..kinda cheesy and lame. Then we got our drink tokens and VIP wrist bands before boarding a replica boxcar where a cool guy gave an introduction for the event. Four companies were there: Jim Beam, Maker's Mark, Knob Creek, and Basil Hayden's. Each person was given a token for a sample at each bourbon and two tokens for a bar drink. Samples and drinks were great and the place was packed! They also had a caterer serving up pulled pork sliders and biscuits with assorted spreads and toppings. Yumm! We had great night in the CLE! Located outside of Cleveland's iconic Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Long Live Rock Sign should be…read morea stop if you're a tourist on a tour of photogenic Cleveland spots. It spans across most of the plaza and sits directly in front of the museum with ambient views of Lake Erie in the distance. If you can't tell from the photos, this sign is large. Meaning it's a great photo opportunity for groups, weddings, or general art projects. It's big enough that you can lay across it at-scale. Try to go at an "off" time and you should get it (mostly) to yourself. Be advised this is a hot tourist spot so it can be hard to get it *completely* to yourself. As for parking, there's a limited amount of street spots surrounding East 9th and the accompanying streets. Make sure you bring quarters for the meters! There's even a handful of accessible spots for people with disabilities that are usually open. Don't let parking deter you from stopping by and seeing this Cleveland landmark and fun sign!

When it comes to Love Signs, I love being a musician because I Love Sign-ing boobs, bottoms, abs,…read morethighs, and so on. I mean who wouldn't. But this isn't related to that, sadly. Although it can be if you want it to be. This is the love sign that is famous and amazing, legendary and part of the true tourist experience, in Cleveland. It's become something of a tourist hotspot in the Yelp era specifically, and that's one of the reasons I really love it. The Cleveland love sign it's one of my favorite things about Cleveland and it's not just about tourist stuff. It's pretty amazing on every level. Barbie looks amazing here but then again she looks amazing everywhere. There are lots of great little spots like this in Cleveland, and they've done a good job putting them all over the city, which makes the city more visible and photographable to. I come over to this part of town whenever I get the chance, and Barbie of course looks especially spectacular when she is in these parts. It's freezing for many months a year here though, next to the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame, right by the choppy, icy waters of Lake Erie, unshielded from the brutal Great Lakes winds. It's one of the most memorable spots in Cleveland and I'm sure we'll keep coming back to it in future. Anyway - what's your sign?

One of the coolest and most exciting part of Cleveland, featuring all kinds of hipster stuff, with views and history, and best of all the really spectacular and genuinely authentic wonderful Global Food found at some of the stands inside the West Side Market which has to be pound-for-pound the best food market in the country. And one of the oldest too, so it's not even a new hipster invention unlike some of the stuff here in Ohio City. Also the excellent Liverpool Pub that serves the whole region is here which makes me happy. Parking can be hard but not as hard as you would expect. Speaking of hard. Oh never mind. I'm glad I'm finally alone and that nobody is near me. Oh. Hi. Oh.
