I've always loved big markets having grown up in the middle of many in Pennsylvania. I recently visited Cleveland and friends made sure we started a Saturday here. It was a highlight of the trip! The market is right downtown in a gorgeous old building, make sure to look at the ceilings. There are public parking areas all around outside, but it does get busy. There are also side buildings and outdoor stalls nearby, so be sure to check them out. Inside is rows upon rows of amazing local vendors with food to enjoy there, or many items to buy and take home. Meat counters, fresh vegetables and fruit, sauces, Middle Eastern food, Greek, Mexican, Gyros, sandwiches, baked goods, salads and so much more are all over. Even stalls that repeat the same types of items have their own unique spin and history. It's busy, with people everywhere looking and enjoying their purchases. Prices are reasonable, especially how fresh and local everything is. I bought a bunch of small things to eat while we walked, together we bought shishkabobs and steak to enjoy at home the following day. It's a great place to shop local! read more

Visiting West Side Market on day two of my trip confirmed a few things for me: 1. Cleveland is seriously underrated as a city. Food and architecture are two areas where it deserves far more recognition, and this market showcases both beautifully. 2. I'm coming back. 3. There is absolutely zero chance I stay in a hotel next time. I need a place with a kitchen. When I return, I fully intend to walk through this market, buy from no fewer than 10 stalls, and somehow end up preparing enough food for 25 people--even if it's only my family of four. The specialties here are endless. The uncooked pierogies nearly broke my heart because I had no way to take them home and cook them myself. Sausage lovers will be in heaven, and beyond that, you'll find incredible produce, fresh fish, quality proteins, and a wonderful representation of the many cultures that make Cleveland what it is. All of this is housed inside a historic building with stunning architecture that makes the experience even better. Pro tip: Climb the stairs to the second floor for an incredible bird's-eye view of the entire market. It's the perfect way to appreciate just how special this Cleveland landmark really is. read more

I've been going here for over 50 years. Ouch that hurt. It IS Cleveland. It represents. The produce is sooooo fresh. Forget Whole Foods, Sprouts, Fresh Market. This beats them all. And by price too. The outdoor stalls are being refurbished, and the section that is complete is just like the historic stalls but much nicer, brand new, clean. Outdoors is the produce. Inside is all the rest - meat, cheese, baked goods, spices, coffee, international foods...the list goes on and on. The ceiling is like an old train station , but purpose built in 1912 to be a bad*ss market. Gorgeous. About 130ish stalls. Cafe/bistro in ine corner, Johnny's hot dog joint in another. Kate's Fish, Peroigi Palace, Frank's Brats, Jim's Meats, Wiencek Poultry, Czuchraj Meats...i could go on... Get a buttermilk at Annemaries - salt and pepper on top is how my Dad did it. That tradition will stay with me forever. Grab a smokie at Czuchraj and stroll the stalls, get your shopping done, or just relax the day away. Incredible. Absolute must do in Cleveland. Whether you are hungry or just need something to do or both. Reminds me of Reading in Philly for us Eastern folk. TONS of food to eat including both different types of food (popcorn, breads, pastries, pasta, MEAT, SEAFOOD I could go on and on. But also a lot of repeats (probably at least five different places to buy macarons for example. There are so many things to see and watch it is entertaining in its own right. We got coffee (with fun flavors, delish), a cheese roll (should have also gotten a pizza bagel from that place don't botch it like I did.) some pastries (good) and flavored popcorn (also good). Been awhile since I've been here. Parking is always a challenge. Last time I was here you had to get a ticket. Now it's a QR Code. You get 90 mins free then you pay $1.50 an hour. Pretty good. But you gotta do the work and hit the code and go thru the process. The WSM right now is under construction. So the produce side is smaller and off to the side not the main hall. Then you go out and walk around the sidewalk off Lorain to get to the meat side. Produce side is to the left. Smaller space but they have it organized better. Everyone is selling the same stuff and prices are fairly similar for each stall. But it is brighter and well laid out. I guess you can go by who looks the most trustworthy to who you buy from. Just keep an eye out to what you buy and make sure it's what you get. That was the old market. Hopefully it's better now. TBH I did not buy any veggies or fruit. Meat side is abundant with meat, fish, pastry, sauces, cheese and other vendors. You can find a deal. We got 3 pounds of ground meat for $18. Sunday is an off day some vendors are off so not all the stalls are filled. But more than enough. We also went to Christopher the bread guy for our favorite bread. So good! We got the rustic Italian small loaf and they sliced it. Good sandwiches this week for lunch. But they have a million other options too. This is a nice little treasure and it's worth the time and effort to go here. Grab lunch and hang out on W25th it's fun and worth the visit. read more

What an amazing space and concept. There were so many vendor available in 2 buildings (produce & everything else). If you are looking for fresh food, this is the place to go. There are various vendors in the main building that include: breads, various protein meats, bake goods, jerky, Mexican food, Italian food, Mediterranean, etc.... Many of the vendors ever offer simple prepared foods that you can pick up a lunch, as well. All the vendors are friendly & professional and you can see locals that frequently shop here. If I actually lived locally, I would frequent this place regularly to purchase products. As many people that come through here, it is very clean. read more

What can I say that hasn't already been said about the West Side Market, especially since the recent updates to the fruit and veggie stands. If you want to support local the West Side Market is the perfect stop, it doesn't matter the day of week, unless you are looking for the cafe to be open. I love being able to get my produce along with fresh seafood at Kate's and pasta from Ohio City, full meal planning in one stop, especially when you can grab a fresh bouquet that finishes your table setting. Parking is even easier with one hour free and scan and pay if you are going to shop at a leisurely pace. read more

I had to do the tourist thing and visit this week known market. I suggest everyone going once to experience it. The sights and colors alone are worth it. The meats and veg were beautiful. The selection was beyond what I'm used to. I loved trying samples of me fruit and olive oils. I was a tad disappointed that several ships were either closed on Monday or on a hiatus for a few days. My biggest regret is that I don't live near here so that I could do my grocery shopping. Not having access to a freezer or refrigerator meant that I couldn't bring home the garlic parmesan bacon or the homemade jerky or the beautiful cuts of meat. read more

This place is so awesome! It was my first time here, but it was one of the places that was recommended on Google when visiting Cleveland. The place was easy to find and plenty of parking. We probably only got to visit half of the stalls before we got hungry and had to leave before it started raining. It was amazing to see at least 3 Cambodian-owned stalls and conversating with them wishing them a Happy Cambodian New Year because it was April afterall. I love food halls and markets, and I always try to check them out when I travel, so I had some pretty high hopes for this well-rated spot! Starting off with parking, there was some construction going on and I missed the first entry, there was nowhere to turn for the parking lot address I had on 25th St (turn on 23rd)! We ended up doing street parking but there's 90 min of free parking if you make it into the lot. Moving onto the main attraction: food! Most of the food is real market food for folks cooking at home. Think sausages, fish, various other meats, and pastas. There was a great deal on fresh made pasta near the front for $2.50 a bundle, but I was on the hunt for ready-to-eat lunch and those didn't quite hit the mark! I also saw a lot of baked goods (apple fritters, macarons, breads), fried foods (empanadas, hand pies, etc.), and sauces/dips. When it came to food options I actively considered, I narrowed it down to spring rolls, crepes, and gyros, but ultimately the gyros were priced really high ($16!) and we ended up dining at the West Side Cafe (which was great, I'll review that separately). Long story short: fun market to shop around if you feel like cooking a nice meal, not so fun for a lunch while you're out. Also I'm learning that there was seating upstairs, this was hard to spot while inside! read more

Native Clevelander here. I grew up going to the WSM and it was as much of a treat 20-30 years ago as it was today. I love all the fresh meats, produce, and breads available. The cultural variety from handmade pierogis, samosas, pepperoni bread, macarons, enchiladas- it doesn't get much better. All the venders I visited took cash and card. It was a week day so it was not crowded. This is a Cleveland staple. It doesn't pretend to keep up the times.. it is good old fashioned local food. And it's delicious! read more

What a lovely market! Parking was free for 90 minutes adjacent to the buildings. So many vendors who were proud of their fresh and delicious items. We tried beef jerky and stopped in the cafe for pierogi. Prices were very reasonable. Everyone we came into contact with was friendly and welcoming. We felt right at home. We decided to take a drive to Cleveland after hearing about this place on social media. When you enter the lot, the local police were very helpful with assisting in parking. The market was very crowded on a Saturday, and Id assume its like this all year through. They have a variety of shops, including an Irish place which sells various Shepard's pies, other pies from the UK and Ireland, there are various bakeries, fresh meats (antelope, rabbit, chicken, beef, lamb, bison, etc.), and other stalls which sells pickles, and everything else you can think of. Some places also sell warm foods which you can order, they heat up for you, and then you can walk around the market with. There is also a little balcony where one can walk up to and see the whole market from, though this area is limited and was crowded when we were there. read more

I love visiting markets to check out what is popular items for locals. This is an amazing place to pick up pre-made food or produce. Some places are cash only, some are credit only, and some take credit with a min purchase but don't have any sign about it. There is a U.S. bank atm. Parking is free for the first 90 mins. I've been told that West Side Market is a must-visit when going to Cleveland and I would agree! It was a fun market to walk through with lots of stalls offering a variety of items. There are a handful of lunch places there - I really liked the gyro place and my husband enjoyed the crepe place. Even though there were lines, they moved really fast so it wasn't a very long wait to get food. My only drawback on this market is that there isn't much seating for people to enjoy lunch. We went up to the 2nd floor balcony and sat up there which has a great view of the market but that area can get packed. read more

I really want to love this place more. It has all the potential to be a 5 star destination. The West Side Market is split into two sections, the produce side and the indoor market. Starting with the produce area, it feels a bit hit or miss. Some vendors seem to be reselling grocery store produce at marked up prices, which takes away from the experience. I was hoping for something closer to a true farmers market, with local and seasonal items that are clearly sourced. If I am paying a premium, I want to feel confident that I am getting something unique or higher quality, not just repackaged supermarket goods. The indoor market, on the other hand, has a great atmosphere. The energy, the layout, and the overall vibe make it an enjoyable place to walk through. That said, many of the stalls start to feel repetitive, with similar offerings across the board. It makes you wonder if there is more opportunity for variety and specialization between vendors. Overall, it is a fun place to visit and definitely worth experiencing, but weekends can get very crowded. With a bit more uniqueness and transparency from vendors, this could easily become a standout destination. read more

It's filled with lots of interesting food choices, cheese, herbs, beef, fish, pirogies and amazing baked goods. I ate lunch in the connected market cafe. Had a Pirogi melt sandwich. 2 lightly fried potato pirogies wrapped in mozzarella on rye toast. Delicious and unusual. Could only eat half it's very filling. Had to try it never saw this on a menu anywhere. I was surprised at how small the market is. The photos make it look like a vastly large space. In reality it's half. Parking isn't easy. Fresh, local, and it all looks SO GOOD! Meats, bread, cheese, fish, cookies, cakes and pies, produce in the smaller building - a great selection and friendly, helpful service from the vendors. I'd shop there weekly if I lived closer to Cleveland. On this visit, I picked up meat pies from a middle eastern vendor, a cookiewich and chocolate coconut cake bar from a bakery vendor, and breakfast scones from another vendor. All delicious! Visited on a pleasant Sunday afternoon in March. The market was busy with a good mix of vendors, though a few stalls were empty. The historic building is beautiful, but seating is limited aside from a balcony bench on the second floor. There's a small diner in the back that looked decent enough. We purchased some exotic baked goods, desserts, breads, and coffee to wash it down--everything looked very good, though pricey as expected. This market is old school cool. This market has been open for 112 years today, that's astounding. It opened on November 2nd, 2012. A bit disappointed to see any empty stalls in here though, that's surprising for sure. The crepes at the deluxe is good, Le Roi for the sweet tooth. Lots of tasty baked good and meats to pick from. The fruit seems to be in the outside smaller market center. Saw giant buckeyes and some Hungarian strudels too. Some music playing on the balcony. read more

Easy to find, there was a lot of a car congestion so we ended up parking on a street but we heard there was free parking for 90 minutes. The market itself is very clean and organized. There are two sections to the market, which was interesting but helped with the flow of people. The bathrooms are also public. Some of the places were more expensive than others so I recommend looking around before you make your final purchases. You can find some cheap things some cheap produce, but there's definitely some pricier produce options. Overall, the vendors were nice and they were respectful when we said that we were just looking and they went back away until we were ready to buy. Would recommend going if you are in the Cleveland area. read more

The cheese (specifically one of the blue cheeses, whose name escapes me) and their chorizo are incredible. The cakes and baked goods at Wild Flower Bakery are always crowd pleasers when I take them to dinner parties. You'll find a large selection of delicious bread, one more wonderful than the next, at Mediterra Bake House. The specialty shoppe Carrie's so many wonderful goods, from cheese to chocolate to many other items you didn't know you needed, but once trying m, you'll become addicted to. Foodie paradise! I mean, Wow! I was on sensory overload here. One of the very best farmer markets I've ever visited. So many great fresh produce, meat and bakery shops. If we lived in the Cleveland area we'd be here routinely. As it was, we were limited on what we could buy. May have been just as well because I could've stayed here all day trying to make decisions. Maybe it was because I was walking with my mouth hanging open at all of the sights but the employees, each and every one, were so friendly and welcoming. Even a gentleman who was on the balcony with me filming asked if I was enjoying my visit. Oh yeah, very much. Favorite shops? Sorry, I can't help you there, I'd need a dozen or so trips here to narrow the field. Definitely add this to your bucket list of places to visit in Cleveland. read more

This is full of stalls featuring meats, baked goods, cheeses, candy, and other food specialty items. Make sure you eat before coming here because everything is so tempting and appealing. There is a balcony on the second floor where you can get a view of the stalls below (this building is in the National Register of Historic Places). The staff are always friendly the place is usually packed and if there is a wait it's usually quick and worth the wait! They have a breakfast and lunch selection which is phenomenal and the value of the food is amazing! Everything comes out fresh, hot and delicious! This place is an amazing public market. It's a great place to get groceries and also hot food to eat. There's a produce arcade that sells a variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and other sundries and you can get some amazing deals. When I went, someone was selling 8 pounds of strawberries for $5. Sure, some of the stands weren't local farms, but it's a great place to shop. The interior has individual stands selling ready to eat foods like coffee, crepes, sandwiches, cakes, breads, etc, in addition to staples such as meat and dairy. There's a fun area where you can climb up to a balcony to get a bird's eye view of the market. There's also public restrooms avaliable here. Some notes: There's a parking lot near the produce arcade that is 90 min free otherwise you have to pay, as well as paid street parking. A lot of business are cash only or have a credit card minimum, so I recommend to bring cash! And don't forget to bring your appetite! read more
