Came here for a college showcase for my son, the university was a very clean campus with a nice baseball field . They have a huge cafeteria with a chick-FIL-a, a suchi place and other restaurants in it . They also have little robots that drive around autonomously and deliver food all over the campus. Didn't go in any other buildings so I can really say much about anything other then what I saw but, it seemed like it was a nice campus from my experience. read more

College has newly renovated dorms as of 2025, better than UMD's 100%. New buildings popping up every year as well as a new business school opening up in a few years. Campus is beautiful in the fall, got into UMD and Towson, chose Towson because I didn't want to drive 1 hour every day back and forth. No issues so far read more

I attended Towson University as a Black student in fall 2023. I was physically attacked by my professor Dr. Miriam Parnes and when I went to the Dean Ms. Alison Peer I was told as a black student I do not deserve the right of a higher education. I was attacked by Dr. Parnes immediately for asking for the exam Rubric. She was openly sabotaging my Exams which was covered up by the Chair of Mathematics Ms. Sandy Spitzer. She was very distraught when I was succeeding highly as a black student on the homework and graded my correct questions wrong in 3 exams and 1 lab assignment in an attempt to make sure I couldn't succeed. Towson University is surprisingly an openly racist school with very racist professors and students. The students constantly antagonized me and reminded me that as a black student I did not belong. After attacking me Dr Parnes admitted everything she did to Ms. Peer which I have on recording. The Dean chose to remind me that as a black student I do not deserve the right of higher education and chose to Kick me out of Towson University for no apparent reason while having A's in all my other classes'. I received 0 refund due to them stating I withdrew my class too late in the semester according to Mr Ruby Thomas. This is why in 2022 only 1 black student out of 44 graduated with an Applied Mathematics degree. As an optimistic 3rd year student of a different University with 0 prior incidents, I was very joyful to have had the opportunity to join Towson. However, I was quickly devastated after the 1st day after being ridiculed and highly disrespected immediately by Professors at Towson University Math's Department which I have never met before. I was disgusted and surprised that in 2024 we still have proudly racist Universities in Maryland. read more

Let me start with saying that I know many people who attended Towson with no issue. They loved it and many people are proud to attend. I wasn't worried at all when my little sister got in and felt more than excited for her. Unfortunately her experience has been less than ideal. A few days into being a freshman, her roommate began showing weird behaviors. These include inappropriate jokes and comments that were not funny. After they talked about everything, they were good. Eventually it has spiraled into her roommate making comments like "I'm going to kill you" as a "joke". She also watches my little sister sleep during her naps and tells her that "she thought she was dead" but not in a concerned matter... She also gets controlling about who my little sister hangs out with and gets upset when my sister goes anywhere else. She tells her "you're not going to do x, you're not going to y.. etc" Now...they were only acquaintances before the whole roommate situation. My sister keeps to herself and is not an "extrovert". The roommate also says things like "I'm going to murder you" and tries to punch my sister in the face but always stops inches before contact. This is extremely unacceptable behavior and the RA seems to take both sides and say that they need to talk it out (what is there to talk out - her roommate is threatening her LIFE). My sister can't make a police report because there is no evidence to the behavior and the roommate will not own up to her actions. Towson is enabling bullies. They won't allow her to move out and get any sort of refund either so we have to take her to class every day because she fears for safety. When something bad happens, everyone is going to say "why did nobody speak up" when my sister has been speaking up for WEEKS and the adults are doing nothing about this. My whole family is concerned for her safety and are hoping she doesn't run into this girl on campus. Do not send your child here - they enable bullies and will do nothing until it's too late. Imagine if your child was in this situation; it wouldn't be any different. read more

Had a very terrible experience with Towson's admissions office. I am a service member serving overseas, but my residence is WA, however my wife still lives in MD(just as she has for the past 20+ years). Since we got married and had a baby in 2020, my wife hasn't been working, and we filed our taxes jointly. My wife is currently not working, as she's taking care of our baby, but now Towson insists we must pay out of state tuition while the consider our appeal. After such, we may be refunded. Unfortunately we just cannot afford 2 years of out-of-state tuition. To top that off, she's obviously NOT a WA resident, as she's never lived there. Therefor, she's stateless, and cannot qualify for in-state university anywhere? Very disappointing to experience such poor support of service members, as well as a mother who is trying to continue her education. read more

We loved the campus and it would have been a good home for her, but when the former coach and my daughter didn't seem to click it just wasn't going to be a place she called home. Make sure your son doesn't park illegally here because if he does they will seriously Towson away. A very pretty, gorgeous campus. Quite rich, by the looks of it. Doesn't seem like Baltimore at all. My friends that go here are good peoples. I've spent a few nights on campus and it feels like a little city within a suburb. It's leafy and clean and safe and security is pretty good. But it's in a really nice area so maybe they don't have much to do. The only problem here is the tuition. Too much for me, and I think too much considering it's not one of the top 50 schools in the country by any stretch of the imagination. But particularly for out of state students it costs a fortune. Still, a really nice campus with good people and workers. I'd recommend University of Maryland or George Mason over in Virginia, ahead of Towson. Now forget everything I tow you and go form your own opinion. read more

Ugh where to start. Had high hopes and heard a lot of great things but sadly, Towson is anything but that. The dorms are very old, the AC units hardly work, lots of old and rusty stuff all over, moldy, bathrooms are gross, and the internet reception is terrible. The food is utterly disgusting. Worst of all when COVID hit, their response was horrible. They are extremists forcing masks all day, and forcing us to get vaccinated!! You have to get the vax to return also, so one isn't enough. When does it end??? I'm not paying $12K per year for this junk. read more

It feels like high school. It has very little diversity You will find more knowledgeable and helpful administrative staff at a community college. You have to call repeatedly with your questions because no one knows the answer so you get transferred over and over again until you end up at the voicemail of someone who doesn't return your call. Very good program at Towson. Academic Prep + Job Planning + Job Preparation = TowsonSuccess (A four star review, minus half-star because my son was a commuter student, (a traffic hassle), added back star because of fair tuition prices). The Psychology dept got him started in a part time research job with a nearby company while still a student, senior year. After Graduation, he was employed full time by a federal agency near Baltimore. Planning for 2nd son to transfer to Towson from Harford Community College. The only thing I'd change was our approach to living on /near campus instead of commuting, which was our personal choice. Commuting is a lot of hours in the car, which probably could have been study time (or social time), and some of the driving was done while in bad weather. Resident students don't deal with that. read more

Absolutely loved my experience at Towson university. Graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 2017. I found that the faculty were excellent and that the students were friendly. I connected well with many of my professors. I would recommend Towson to anyone. I was able to hold down a part time serving job in Annapolis, so I would commute and drive from My apartment in Towson to annapolis for the job. I was busy 24/7 with school work or my job in annapolis. It takes a lot of dedication and drive, just like most anything else in life. It did take me an extra semester or two to graduate because I was a transfer, but I spent my last four semesters at Towson and I thrived. I worked, took advantage of the relatively small class sizes, and advocated for myself when I needed to do that. I found Towson to be a perfect fit for me. In my last semester, I was pregnant with my daughter. I did not attend my graduation in 2017 because I thought it would make me uncomfortable. I was just happy to have my degree. About a year after having my daughter, I started my career and I am lucky knowing I've actually used my degree. Towson was 100% worth it. I landed the job of my dreams. I worked for the director and manager of Sarah's House in fort Meade md (a part of Catholic charities of Baltimore) as their administrative assistant. Im proud to be able to say that. Remember this: Nothing is ever perfect but you make the most of what you're given!! read more

Towson is a very strong school I would highly recommend this university for an undergraduate degree. The campus is gorgeous and hidden in the woods surrounded by a small town. You have access to many small local places as well as Baltimore City. Professors care, classes are smaller, and you walk out with a high class degree. read more

She loves her classes and teachers and has made great friends, and is on the dance team and absolutely loves it! Wouldn't you know I went to work at Loyola university for a few years, which I prefer more and am now back in undergraduate at university of Maryland 8 years later. "It's a school" is really all that I felt about it. I think the advising for Freshmen (and probably transfers) needs to be improved, because they basically told us "pick a major by your junior year and you'll be fine) which isn't true, and is evident since it takes 5 or 6 years for a lot of people to graduate. It's a mostly commuter school, but oddly enough you can't really be involved in anything if you commute. It's definitely all about the money for Towson. They charge you for a parking pass that doesn't mean anything, because you'll probably miss a good chunk of classes just looking for a place to park. And God forbid you park in the wrong space, even if it isn't marked, because you'll never get out of a ticket (I think it's up to $100 now). Don't expect there to be any communication between departments, either (example, registrar and financial aid). That being said, though I had plenty of boring classes that I needed to take, I had a great advisor once I picked a major in the business school. The bad thing about the business school is the administrative assistant, who is randomly rude when you have simple questions (but if you compliment her before she can open her mouth, she'll be nice). read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Towson as a student. Teachers are wonderful and most, although not all, care about the success of their students. The school, however, makes it very difficult for working students to graduate in a fair amount of time. Evening classes are minimal and online courses are even more scarce. If you can, take as many lower-level courses at a local community college to save time and money. Community colleges are lower per credit (cost wise) and offer a lot more flexibility than Towson does. Also, parking on campus is a nightmare. If you think buying a parking permit guarantees you a spot- you're wrong. A few times I have driven around for over an hour looking for parking. If you find yourself taking a class with a professor who locks the door at the start of class, well, you're doomed. read more

My son was in the teaching program and had 2 classes left. He didn't pass one class during the pandemic on-line teaching which doesn't seem fair. They will not allow him to re take class and kicked him out of the program. No help or guidance from advisors or dean. They told him to choose another major. Waste of 70,000$. I like Towson, I really do. But it's not a good school for people who want to experience college. It's a great school for people who just want their degree at a low price. I'm there to get my degree ONLY. I commute, I go to class, I leave. That's not really how most people want to spend their college careers, but I'm okay with it. In terms of studying abroad... FIVE STARS.They have awesome programs that are CHEAP. Do an exchange, you won't be dissatisfied and if you are, then there's something wrong with you. Everyone should study abroad. There are some professors who are pretty much intelligent beyond all belief, there are some professors who are incompetent (luckily I haven't had any like that) and there are some who are just very young and new to being a professor. It's hit or miss and yes, ratemyprofessor can help, but remember that some of those review are written by morons who don't even deserve to be in college or who were dismissed from other colleges for academic or disciplinary problems. Towson is a college built around and supported by athletics so, if you're not an athlete, you're not going to be like the coolest kid ever. But you can go here and you won't be harassed for not being athletic. The gym facilities are amazing. The new Liberal Arts building is amazing, but seems extravagant and wasteful. Parking is AWFUL. Even if you have a student permit. If you can't afford anything else and you're from MD and not pursing some sort of fancy degree, go to Towson. i graduated from towson 20 years ago with a bs in business admin. I'm from new jersey and moved back to new jersey after graduation. I feel as though if I stayed in Maryland after graduation this degree may of helped me get a job. No such luck in new jersey. I have never received any job from the degree. Not even one opportunity. I would think twice about investing in this college since it is not helpful in the real world outside Maryland. My stay at towson was nice but I feel like it was a waste of time since I was never offered any type of employment at any time the last twenty years. It a shame because I feel like the mass comm department was a joke compared to the business and the mass comm majors were able to find jobs outside Maryland. I've been to three different colleges, and Towson is by far the best. I am now a senior, so I have gone through the whole Towson program and this is what I think... I've read the other reviews and it seems that the people who were disappointed were the ones who expected to have everything laid out on a shiny platter and handed to them. College is about taking responsibility for yourself, since you're an adult... Anyway, I came in as a transfer and all my classes were accepted. This is your responsibility though! Make sure you know what school you want to transfer too and see how your credits align. The teachers are incredible! They are highly intelligent, widely publicized in the academic world, and do everything they can to help you succeed. This school, though not as diverse as it could be (which is not their fault but based on enrollment choice), takes HUGE strides to celebrate diversity and to make all the programs inclusive for all cultures, races, disabilities etc. Every semester they invite speakers to the school, and these events are highly advertised and attended. In my first year I saw the Black in America Tour which discussed racism in America, and Laverne Cox (from Orange is the New Black) who spoke about being transgender. Also in the student union building you will find the Center for Student Diversity, and around campus you will find information on clubs and social groups that support various diverse needs. Also, if you are an education major, expect to take a course on student diversity and another on urban schools. Lets make the rest of this easier to get through... Come to Towson if you love: Sports Student clubs and socializing Food!! : All you can eat buffet, various restaurants, food courts, and Starbucks in most buildings and we got voted top 3 schools for vegetarian and vegan options (Which are incredible!) Not to mention the city of Towson which is right down the street filled with 5 star restaurants, cafes, fractured prune doughnuts, vegan shops etc. A useful degree! : Every single one of my friends who have graduated from here now has an amazing job for example: 3 weeks after graduation my friend got a job as the science/social studies teacher at Catonsville middle school, one friend is a medical assistant at John Hopkins, and one works with animals at Busch Gardens in Florida. Also, the teaching program here is one of the highest valued programs. Here is a quote from the website "Associate Professor Molly Mee is proud that the most recent cohort in the middle school education major she helped to develop at Towson University had a 100 percent job placement rate". This means that everyone who graduated this last spring (2016) from the middle school education program now has a job!!!! The only downfall and the ONLY REASON I gave this school a 4 is because parking BITES. They have 3 major parking garages that are near the school, and if you can't find a spot which between the hours of 9:30-3pm is difficult to do, then you have to park in the "overflow" garage which is near the dorms and requires a bit of a walk or a shuttle will come pick you up and take you to the school. And yes, this is even with a parking pass which is overly priced. But if your classes are early or later you wont have any trouble. This school is made for students. Its down to Earth, very reasonably priced, and gives a highly valued education. During the day students are chillin in the grass, skateboarding around the campus, going on nature walks, sipping on lattes in the library, or picking up the free Towson gear they love to pass out to get students involved. I'm 30. I never got to have the whole "dorm experience" which would have been fun. But I am a mother, and I work, and live an hour away. But I make the drive and deal with the parking because the school is fantastic, the teachers are amazing, and I love the atmosphere. Also! So many times I've even brought my 6 year old son (who is very well behaved) to various classes and the teachers allowed him to participate which was amazing! read more

Towson has its positives and negatives. There are lots of things to do on campus as far as getting involved in extracurricular clubs and some of the events they hold are pretty interesting as well. Their dining halls were refurbished (at least one I know of) and the food is not bad (could be a little bit healthier but it is COLLEGE food). And if you want to do something off campus, there's lots of stuff within walking distance. The dorms are for the most part safe. The professors I had were good although I got some tenured a-holes occasionally who intended on giving everybody hell, but that was the minority since I did my HW before signing up at ratemyprofessor.com ;-) Oh, and if you're in-state, it's pretty inexpensive. Now for the negatives. I think this school is not as diverse as it could be, meaning that pretty much you know all the people of your ethinc group there lol. I looked at other campuses in the area after the fact and noticed the difference. Also, as a minority, I don't think Towson is doing enough as far as academic advising and networking. Now arguably, I tried to slip through my four years there with a 3.4, but I get the feeling Towson heavily recruited me (and others) because I was black and upped their black student percentage only to leave me hanging and floating through the system. My advisor NEVER asked me about my specific interests or career goals; she just slapped a piece of paper at me and told me this is what I need to take to graduate from my major. I'm glad I have a degree but it's practically useless and I feel robbed of my experience there because of that. I also have a gripe with their graduate admissions who have succeeded in taking my money and giving me a BS excuse as to why I can't continue with my app. Be warned, the campus is DEAD on the weekends, so don't expect much during that time...this is truly a commuter school. I won't bother to continue ranting, so here's the summary. If you like a mid-size, moderately priced college with a good night life and party scene and decent classes, then Towson just may be your place. However, again, if you are a minority, make sure you take advantage of the different clubs and organizations (helps to have the connects of course) and ACTIVELY PURSUE your education and do not let them float you through without making sure you get the most of what you paid for. read more

It's OK- I've been to a few other colleges both here (UMBC) and out of state, this may offend some but Towson does not offer many high level technical majors, for example no Engineering degrees. The courses are not very challenging, I made Dean's list several times basically sleeping through class. Some professors were horrible, so check ratemyprofessor before signing up. If you're transferring from another school, be prepared for many of your credits not to transfer. Also the supporting staff can be very rude and non-helpful. I had a parking issue that charged my credit card 3x in error and never got my money back but my credit card company did. I also went to sign up for a class and got royally chastised by one of the admin assistants (I think it was Joan in Business) for just asking a question. The way she treated me I hope she gets fired, but that will never happen as I'm sure she's been there longer than the school itself. On the plus side, the students are very friendly, helpful and fun. I made more friends at Towson than at UMBC. The class prices are much cheaper than other schools I looked at. Just realize what it is- it's a liberal arts school and not an Ivy League. Quite a few of my peers are working dead end jobs even with a Towson degree. read more

Overall, I'm happy with my education at Towson. I graduated with a BS in Chemistry, and I worked for a year in Towson's biochemistry lab, as well as a year in the Lab of Comparative Neuropsychology. You get out of Towson exactly what you put in. By my senior year, I was constantly in the library studying and working on lab reports, going to professors for help, and doing research. I feel like I learned a lot - but only in my chemistry and physics classes. Towson has a bad name (academically) because of its soft science and liberal arts programs. Let me tell you, they are terrible. If you want to go to college to learn Psychology or Human Geography, go somewhere else. If you want to go to college to party with a bunch of drunk Jersey girls who couldn't care less about their education - welcome to Towson, here's your psych degree and 3.0 GPA, no work required. Don't forget your Uggs and hair straightener! I was constantly disappointed with my elective classes. I've taken education, computer science, and geography electives. I barely studied at all for any of the exams and got A's in every single one. I've also taken psychology electives - the two 400 level classes that all psych majors say are the hardest - psychopharmacology and physiological psychology. I felt like it was a joke how little the professors required of everyone. For psychopharmacology, my professor let us bring an entire 8 x 11 page of notes to each exam, and there was no cumulative final for either of my psych classes. They really just don't expect you to learn anything. If you're willing to put in work to learn outside of the classroom (going in to office hours, doing research projects in a professor's lab, etc) you will be able to learn a lot at Towson with any major. Otherwise, you're going to graduate feeling totally unprepared for the real world. Even within the chemistry major, there were TONS of unbelievably dimwitted and unmotivated people. The kind that make you wish group projects didn't exist, because you'll do the work of 3 people and get them A's. But they struggle to keep a 3.0. That's why I liked Towson. Anyone can get a 3.0 if they try at all. But if you're like me and want to learn, you will get a 3.6 GPA even with a difficult major, and get to do awesome things like present research at international conferences and win multiple awards because no one else is trying for them. Overall, I'd say Towson's chemistry & physics programs are great. Definitely go to Towson if you're into the hard sciences (especially if you're on a budget!) Otherwise, you may want to consider going somewhere else if you're interested in getting an education with your degree. read more

I think college is college wherever you go and Towson was a pretty decent school. The large guido population that attends from New York and Jersey almost makes it like going to school out of state! I loved almost every proffessor I had, they were extremely helpful and always available outside of class to talk. I would advise to stay away from the"Greek Life" at this school, it's pretty whack (but then again it is everywhere). read more

Towson Community Dance is a wonderful place to bring your children who love dance to take dance with well qualified teachers.

Though I have a good amount of student debt going to Towson, I am from New Jersey, I had a great time here. I felt and still feel I had a great experience, along with the many people I became friendly with and spent time with, in and out of the class room. I would have given it a 4 out of 5, but I needed to counter the idiots above me complaining about lack of minority care from the University, like their supposed to pat you on the back and say "Good job, you made it even though your black or hispanic". Who cares. I had many classes with hispanic, black, and international students in the business school. Also, I love the girl who writes about the lack of college life Towson offers, yet she states she commutes to class and never spends time on campus. If your looking for a fun school with a ton of bars, easy access to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Camden Yards (if your a Yankee or Red Sox fan, tickets are super cheap), easy transportation, decent food at best, and great campus activities consider Towson. Though, I must advise, do your homework if your a transfer student. Make sure you know what classes you need to graduate and the length of time you will be there. Sometimes you will run into silly prerequisites and such. Plus, out of state students loan bills may get pricey. Great for in-state - so so for out of state. Go TIgers! read more
