Parking is a bit difficult and I found it best to park down a side road and walk back to the shop. My children particularly like the stocking filler type toys starting from around 20p. A lovely place to brows. The shop specialises in Lego, Playmobil, Sylvanian Families, Thomas and Friends and more.

The downstairs is a bit like a timewarp - 1980s M&S, but with a small haberdashery by the door. I didn't linger here at all and popped upstairs, and I was much more impressed! There's a decent kitchen section, and I bought a relatively hard-to-find 7" springform pan, of a decent weight, for only about £7. I also picked up some reed diffusers - half price for a pack of 3 by Wax Lyrical, bargain. But where the store really shines is in its toy section. I could barely drag my husband away from the wall of Lego, the row of Funko, and just the general toys. This is definitely where I will be going from now on when I shop for my niece and nephew - and I will totally be cementing my place as the best auntie ever, because the range and quality here is just great.

The only thing breaking the store of of the 1980s are the self service machines. But really, it is just such a dated concept since the dawn of online shopping - although I do have to admit when I order from Argos I do preorder online which is very useful - but I can't remember the last time I looked in a physical catalogue at home (although I still take them home). Another thing - why list the pickup point when you only have one? It just seems silly. Oh Argos, I loved you as a child but with the exact same decor, perhaps you need to grow up too.

My kettle was completely unusable and obviously Christmas without a kettle isn't going to work. So I had a massive stack (42, in the end) of £1 Love to Shop gift vouchers, which you can use in Argos. I handed the stack over to the cashier and he proceeded to count them. Three times. Once he settled on it being £42, he then said he had to have them checked by the manager, who was just a few feet away. Fine, so he takes them to her and she proceeds to check not only the date, but the security measures - of which there are multiple - on EVERY. SINGLE. VOUCHER. This took another 5 minutes. Then the cashier comes back and... recounts the vouchers. Twice. Honestly, I felt like a criminal, and the 15 minutes I spent waiting around to pay, coupled with the 10 minutes I had to wait for the kettle to appear at the collection desk, made this a particularly crappy visit.

The younger staff (mainly checkout) are the usual sulky teenagers. The store is the same as any toys r us - designed to trap you as you enter mad make you go through a maze of aisles before you can get to what you want. They already have your kids' absolute attention with all the great toys - I don't get why they have to use such blatent child manipulation techniques. As always, I will check prices online before going here as they are often cheaper on other sites.

It has everything and I MEAN EVERYTHING!!! Toys are separated by brand and have huge displays to boot!! Thomas the tank engine and Ben 10 battle for shop floor supremacy. My little one goes absolutely bananas in this shop. Even as an adult, you can get some sort of joy from bringing your child here. I have had a couple of strange episodes in here... 1) The first time, me and another dad happened to wonder into the WWE section and struck up a conversation about Wrestlemania 6 as we shifted through the 'classic' figures in search of Ric Flair. Another customer informed us that a few kids where waiting to have a look for Triple H and Rock dolls.. WHOOPS. I moved on quickly... 2) Last Christmas eve, I was sent out by the wife to pick up a Zingzilla doll. It was 6 in the evening and i was moody to say the least. On entering the premises a couple of 'refreshed' Aussie chaps threw a rugby ball at me. We proceeded to have inproptu game. I was collared by the store manager who informed me whilst laughing his head off "theres kids here, could be a bit dangerous"... I bought the monkey. Outside I tripped on the horrible ice. It was a bad fall. The Aussies who were loitering in the car park helped me up as; and I quote "Yer getting raped by a monkey".. They helped me to a bus stop. My boy never even played with the damn thing after all that. My arm has never been the same since... It has it all. It loses a star as it can be a bit pricey. The staff are clued up and enjoy drunken yobs playing rugby.

It's a dinky little shop with a bell that rings when a customer arrives. It is one of the smallest shops in the city yet has so much stuff for sale. As the name suggests it sells little gifts, wrapping paper, cards and luxury stationary. It also has some more random things too like mugs, jewellery and joke-shop style gags. It sounds like a bit of a mix-mash of things but if you're in the area it's worth a trip to pick up some lovely cards and gift bags. It always smells like perfume or incense and the ladies working there are very sweet, all older women who are really helpful and pleasant. It's always on my list of places to go on the run up to Christmas and never has the festive queues or elbowing that you get in department stores this time of year.
