I've proudly represented them in over 10 transactions, and can confidently say they've had happy Buyers on each and every one. Side note: I have the unique experience of knowing a dear friend who has used N & R's services for a remodel. Hiring this contractor turned out to be one of the worst and costliest decisions I have ever made…read more The contract was for over $200,000 to lift the house and install a basement ADU. More than three months after the project was to be completed, I hired a lawyer to determine how to proceed given the poor quality work I was seeing and not knowing when the job would be done. Their standard contact language indicates payment to client of $300 a day for liquidated damages for each day beyond the contract end date. I had a ton of documentation about their delays, business practices and my damages and felt extremely confident going to court but late in the game I learned that they could just claim bankruptcy and I would never see a penny of what they owed; this on top of all of my attorney fees. They do go by N & R, NRC Homes and Megapolis so gave me pause about their claim of not having any assets. In the end, I settled to avoid this possibility of eating all costs. Below is just a short list of the experience I had with this contractor. I do think their concrete and framing crew leads and crews are great but they are told what to do by Anatoliy and Alexander. I'm happy to show anyone all the documentation I have of this horrid and costly experience. * Project end date was end of August and project was still not complete in December and quality of work was taking a nose dive. * Tried to claim a change order of more than $3,000 for reestablishing status quo electricity to my house and shop. They said they needed to rewire and move the electrical panel outside or I would trip the breakers in my house. This didn't seem to be a problem for the electrician I hired when I refused to pay for reestablishing status quo; panel is inside per plan and no major rewiring was needed. * Installed R-11 insulation when plan called for R-19. Did not communicate or submit change order prior to installing. I just caught it and called them on it. * Installed spigot several inches proud of wall and it leaks making it prone to bursting and flooding the apartment. * Had to take numerous measures in December to keep pipes from freezing in backyard wood shop b/c they did not install a shut off valve. * Their electrician told me what step lights to buy then installed electrical boxes that were too small to accommodate any step light. I had to build wooden boxes to house the lights. Spent many hours with my electrician and my time trying to remedy the situation. Still trying to fix so they are waterproof. * Billings often included charges for work that was not done which was corrected after I called them on it. I was even told one time that it was a "Quick Books' glitch but somehow it always benefitted them. * They tried to install the wood flooring in the basement when humidity levels were substantially higher than the manufacturer's instructions. I even sent them the conditions of installation several days earlier b/c I suspected they would do this. Subs and a new manager, who I never was introduced to, showed up to install the floor in the pouring rain. I turned them away saying it would void my warranty. They tried to bully me into doing it that day saying they would be back if there were any future problems and that if I didn't install it that day, it may delay my project for weeks. In the end, they brought over a dehumidifier and installed it a couple days later. * Did not install deck step to grade per plan and just pushed up the dirt and held it back with leftover wood flooring boards. I had to pay for materials and labor to accommodate the grade change by building a small retaining wall. * Brand new Kohler cast iron tub has permanent rust stains from leaving nails in standing water. It's also not close to being level. * Plan called for casting bolts into concrete for outside railing. Was not done. I had to pay for more complicated installation and also have ugly concrete patch where I had to remove an extended concrete lip which was a tripping hazard.

They were exceptional contractors…read more Here's why: Scope of Work - Every room in the house was remodeled (roughly 10 rooms, plus 3 baths). One wall was removed and a structural steel beam inserted, plus new footing to support the beam. The kitchen and all baths were completely redone. In most rooms, the floors, doors, lights, carpet, paint, woodwork were completely redone; extensive built-ins and cabinets were added; and two ductless heaters were installed. Work that I thought I would have to contract out separately, they were able to accomplish at prices that I was pleased with, including a Master Closet install. Upgrades that they suggested, solved problems, looked great, and were done at reasonable prices. Who are they - Family owned by two brothers. The older, Jeff, is charming, reliable, easy to deal with, excellent at communications, compulsive on CAD (so he gets the details right), a good listener, incredibly responsive, and reasonable in pricing changes. Though Jeff and his brother are both "wood guys" by background - meaning their woodwork looks beautiful and they have an eye for detail. The hands-on player is next youngest brother, Jim, who runs the job and is a joy to interact with. He is knowledgeable, with a breadth of experience to envy, straightforward, and will do anything to make the job succeed. Yet neither of these two will ever sacrifice the quality of their product. Both Jeff and Jim are innovative and gave us solutions to Master Bedroom lighting, an old-fashioned fireplace façade, and convoluted window screens that now work beautifully - meaning both functionally and aesthetically. Over-arching Criteria to Evaluate - Most of the literature on accomplishing your remodel will warn you to be prepared to lose that nice feeling you had when you first hired your contractor. That never occurred in our relationship with Millworx. They bring three incredibly important characteristics to the remodel business: (1) They are trustworthy and honest; (2) They bring really good people: both in the people that work for Millworx, as well as their subcontractors; (3) They are diligent throughout the job, are competent across a range of skills, and accomplish beautiful work. In retrospect it was to save cash, the buckets of paint have another project name on them. Next, even after a change in scope from two colors down to a single color, the cost was not updated. In retrospect I shouldn't have written the check but even after follow up communication and questions there has been no change. In addition, he and his team replaced a quite a few fascia boards as ours had rotted. David overbought the boards and then left the unused boards in my backyard. Finally, He left early from the project, leaving his team who did not clean up the entire mess. There was also no final project walk through and so I have a couple spots left that were missed.
