Not so with lessons from Bobby Dale Harris here. The cost of a 30 minute lesson is about $35 and most times if there is not another student booked after your time the lessons run over time a bit. He listened to what I want to learn to play and hit the ground running. Unlike others I've had he does teach it from a theory basics and the real difference is he hits you with the theory and then very practical why and how you use it. When it's all going over my head he can read it and says it's exposure to the material repeatedly that will cause it to fall in place trust him and we back up and see where that confusion is and go from there. I have had some real ahha moments when pieces of it do crash into place. Only two months in and I'm looking forward to the next lesson each week instead of dreading them due to confusion like before. Unlike other guitar teachers I've had he does not spend all the lesson time showing off like the last one I tried. He's the real deal but when he's knocking notes out he telling you what he's doing and how it applies to what you are working on or will be the next thing you will be working on. I can't stress enough how rare this really is. Wish I had run into him years ago. Much more organized than my YouTube confusion.... Give him a try!

I ended up with a 3/4 acoustic classical style (that I still have) I was a 17 year old kid with 80 bucks in my pocket. He took the black electric guitar and amp back without any questions and proceeded to help me. He took the time to explain the differences between various acoustic guitars. He suggested something smaller with a wider neck and nylon strings to make it easier to learn. I left Oklahoma a year later and have lived all over the country and have been in hundreds of music stores. Since then, I have bought, sold and worked on dozens of guitars learning as much as I can along the way. I always remembered Mike's kindness. I came back to Muskogee for a week to help my parents out. I brought my little Blackstar Carry On electric travel guitar with me but found myself without any picks, a tuner, or a capo. So I looked to see if Square Deal was still around and sure enough it was. So I popped back in expecting to get in and out. I made a bee-line for the wall of accessories (i get easily distracted in music stores) and when Mike was done helping another customer, he came by and asked if I needed help. He hooked me up right away. But man, this guy loves what he does and he loves and appreciates his customers. We talked for a good 30 minutes about everything from travel, work, and of course guitars. He knows his stuff. He told me that his goal is that anyone off the street can get a good quality instrument that is affordable. And man, do they have some cool guitars in there. I told him that I remembered his kindness from years ago and you could tell that meant the world to him. This guy makes you feel like you've known each other for years. Man was he right! The photographs of the collection don't really do it justice. Vintage and collectible Gibson's and Fenders. Along with a beautiful collection of acoustic guitars as well. But what really impressed me was how friendly the folks in there were. I was told that I could look around and play whatever I wanted, while I was standing next to a 1968 Stratocaster. I didn't play it but man it sure was beautiful. I would say this place could hold its own against Mike's Music in Cincinnati and the top floor of Gruhn Guitars in Nashville any day of the week. I was able to get out of there with just a T-shirt for my daughter, but I suspect my next trip back. I may have some spending money in my pocket. Just an absolutely outstanding experience.

They have some beautiful instruments at all different prices from many of the premium brands. They also have a great selection of pedals and some cool amps. But besides all the cool gear, Barnett's has some really down-to-earth people, which is probably the most important thing. The staff there is super friendly and accommodating. No attitude at all. Not like a lot of places I've visited, where you almost need a background check to touch a guitar. And if you want to be left alone, that's no problem either.
