When I walked in I was immediately greeted and asked if I needed help. Now the bad.. I wanted to do a SELF SERVICE DOG WASH. And was told it's by appointment, it was about 12p and the next available was 4pm. I was stunned as to there being by appointment when I am going to be the one washing my own dog. Not them. So I asked "why by appointment since is a self wash" I got a response with how busy they are and that people make appointments (in essence) which doesn't necessarily answer my question. I was looking for "oh we have a limited number of baths available" or "we need someone to supervise while the bath is going" etc. anyway. Instead I said "ok understood, thank you" I got no response. Then I said "have a great day!" And nothing. It may not rub some people the wrong way but it did me and reduced my stars on this place. For food I would say this location def has variety and the possibility of special diets etc. but the self bath I would say call ahead. Don't walk in.

I've worked with rescue years ago, I've had Great Danes for 20 years. I met a wonderful family…read morethat needed to place a Great Dane they were fostering. I had excellent references, but I also have a very old cat. I wanted a nice quiet dog so the cat wouldn't be scared. Jack seemed like a great match. Jack needed a quiet home and someone to love him. I had put in an application to adopt, but I needed time to make sure it was going to work, especially for my cat. The family fostering brought Jack to Petco where San Luis Valley Animal Welfare was having an adoption fair. I arrived about 30 minutes before them. I talked to Aileen. In my application and that day I was upfront with her about my ability to walk Jack. But, that I had the means and a trainer willing to walk him. My not being able to walk Jack was a big issue with her. But, she let me take Jack home and I agreed to let her check in with me on his walking. And she did. She checked in every week. "How is Jacks walking going?" Not how is Jack settling in, how is Jack and the cat getting along, she just wanted to know if he was walking everyday, twice a day for 30 minutes. I responded with how he was doing, how the cat was handling things, how much he slobbered. :o) I also said he was going on his walks, but that he wasn't gone for 30 minutes. He has trust issues, like most rescues do, especially Great Danes. He didn't want to be away from me that long. He would fight leaving me and then walk a certain distance, he would stop, turn around and pull the trainer back to me. We were trying to build trust. Let him know I would be there everytime he came back. After a few weeks of her asking me about his walks (and nothing else) I had fallen head over heels for him. My cat was getting used to him. We had a routine going. Everything was great, I was ready to adopt. Then she sent another email saying I had broken the agreement and she would be taking him. It broke my heart. He had been walking just not a full 30 minutes because he was insecure. I admit, I got a bit upset. I told her if she was taking him, she better do it that day. I spent the day in tears. Then she gave me a little hope. She thought my emails about the walks were vague. So, I explained again. She emailed back, asking to talk to my dog walker/trainer. By then I had had enough. My application had all my references on it, she let me take the dog home, she let me fall in love with the dog. I don't think she ever planned to let me keep him. If she had, she would have been more concerned about his complete welfare and not just 30 minutes twice a day. I admit my emotions were raw by this point and I told her to either pick him up or give me adoption papers, but I couldn't take the emotional rollercoaster she had me on. She picked him up the next morning, leaving me in tears. I can't imagine what Jack was thinking as they took him away from me. He must be so sad and confused. I know I am.

My husband gets there and Nico, a groomer, told him that he couldn't groom our dog because she had a seizure and pooped/vomited. NO ONE CALLED US IF THAT WAS THE CASE. so my husband got the grooming mgr and she said Daisy didn't have seizures but was shaking but they couldn't do anything for her.. SO WHY DIDNT THEY CALL US AT ALL SINCE THEY DIDNT DO ANYTHING?? because they said they were busy. So our dog sat there still wet when we picked her up for over 5 hours! Don't ever bring your dog here. Especially to Nico that doesn't have the experience between seizures vs dog being scared/anxiety.

My husband took me there to get a few more and the kid there made all the recommendations. We got home with 7 new fish and put their bags on top to acclimate the temperature. 45 minutes later we opened the bags and added them to our happy family. All was great for a few hours till the new red tip shark started acting weird and died. The next morning the plecostomas was dead as well as a few of my original fish. By evening 3/4 of the fish had passed. Then by Sunday morning everyone was dead. What?!!!! As they died, I got upset and cried. My husband took each one to the toilet as they started floating. I called Petsmart in grief and they pretty much said too bad. The Manager Responded just like a mafia Don...No dead bodies, no compensation. My husband said there's no way I could handle taking in the dead bodies of my beloved fish into Petsmart to prove they died. Now, here's the question.... What killed my fish?!!! They were fine till I dumped in theirs! Their fish or water killed my entire aquarium! They act like it's no big deal, just buy more! I paid 87,00 for this fish that I added to a very happy environment! Did they act concerned??? No. They just want you to buy more. Be wary of getting your fish from this store. After my last conversation today where she said the manager said they refuse to do anything I have decided I will start going to Pet paradise where they offered to help me figure out exactly what killed everyone. Advanced Velvet introduced thru Petsmart water. Geeze. You would think that after 30 years of being a great money spending customer they would pretend to care about what their water did to my happy fish home! Nope! It's all about how much more they can get you to spend. The people at pet paradise have given us an action plan to completely clean out the aquarium and re-start. It'll cost about 300.00. Before we add fish in 4 weeks they want a water sample to make sure the water is ready. Did Petsmart offer anything? Advise! Sympathy? No. They do not care. I'm crying as I write this hoping to save someone else from going thru this. It's horrible. All my babies died because of contaminated fish/water from Petsmart. There are better places to go to and I found a perfect one who will now get all my business. They have birds, puppies, kittens, all kinds of fish including koi and turtles. They groom too. It's such a nice friendly environment where they love all their animals and you can feel the love. Not just a cold store where the young kids there act bothered when you ask a question or want help. Pet Paradise is my new go to for my Dog and fish. Bye bye Petsmart. All you had to do was pretend to care. I'm done.

Craig who specializes in the fresh water fish is very knowledgeable about fish varieties and planted aquariums. Also he is willing to chat with you about any problems you maybe experiencing or up grades you maybe planning. Craig and the owner Bruce both take the time to learn regulars names and pet care needs. If they seem short, look around its probably because they are crazy busy, be a little patient and they will be glad to talk with you extensively. I know because I had a long talk last weekend about the benifits and set up cost of CO2 in my 120 gallon planted aquarium. Recently I requested a rare fish and Craig found a seller and special ordered them in for me! They are coming all the way from a breeder overseas. So if they don't stock what you are looking for, just ask they might be able to order it. I have also found when I buy fish at the store they live longer because have been given the time to acclimate to our water, recover from the trauma of shipping, and if the fish come in sick the store treats them and gets them healthy before sale. Saving me money on meds, and lost money in dead fish. The Fish Connection also has a large variety of reptiles big and small, some small furry cage pets like hamsters, salt water fish, and all the supplies to set up the perfect environment for your new pet as well as the information you will need to keep them happy and healthy. When buying expensive equipment like a fluval heater or Prime lighting I have found thier prices the same as Amazon so why not support a local business and the locals who work there? So go ahead and drop in, bring the kids, and enjoy seeing some animals and fish you probably didn't know existed, and maybe you will fall in love and give one or two a new home.
