I'm writing this review to protect other people from the awful experience I had with Tradewind Hawaii Garage Doors. I started correspondence with Brian, the salesperson at the company at the end of October 2024. Because I selected a custom glass garage door Brian explained that it would take 6 to 8 weeks to get it. I gave them a 50% deposit on 11/8/24, to get it on order so I could have it by the beginning of January 2025. On 12/5/24, I checked on the status of the door to make sure it was still on track. Brian said he was trying to get in contact with the manufacturer and was having a call with them that afternoon and would follow up with me. I didn't hear anything so I reached out on 12/18/24, to find out that the manufacturer lost my order and now the door will be delayed until the end of January. After the holidays on 1/4/25, I reached out again to check on the status because my remodel was wrapping up. He didn't get back to me until 1/9/25, but let me know that my door was scheduled to be out of production on 1/16/25, and we should be good for the last week of January for installation. On 1/24/25, I reached out to see if we were on track for installation the following week. This is when he let me know that the manufacturer lost my garage door. Brian was going to call the manufacturer that coming Monday 1/27/25, and follow up with me Monday. I never heard anything that week, so on Friday 1/31/25, I left an email and voicemail for Brian saying if I didn't hear back from him that day, I wanted my deposit refunded. Then I received a text message from Clair, the owner, for the first time stating she was going to call. She explained that the manufacturer couldn't find my door, but they were looking for it and she would know more by that Monday, so I agreed to what until Monday. Monday 2/3/25, Clair said she was looking into it. I didn't hear anything back that day and waited until the next day and checked in with her Tuesday 2/4/25. At that time, she told me they found the door and it was going to ship out Thursday 2/6/25 and they will have it in 10 days. I agreed to wait at this point because I just wanted my garage door because I'm now working in my office with a big hole where the door is supposed to be. Friday 2/14/25, I texted Clair to check on the status of the door because by then she should have received a tracking number and be able to see when the door was arriving. She didn't get back to me for a day and when she did it was a quick text now saying it is another 10 days out from that date. I texted back and just asked what happened to the original 10 days? She never replied I was just ignored. The following Friday 2/21/25, I texted Clair for an update, by the end of the day she never responded now I'm just being ignored and told her I don't want this thing to go legal. Later that night I got a nasty text message from her saying that my door was coming in on Monday 2/24/25, and she would contact me to make plans. Monday came and Clair never contacted me. Tuesday 2/25/25, I cancelled the order because I never received a response. They did refund my deposit, but that isn't the point I have now lost 16 weeks of my time and must start all over with another company. I own two companies myself, one here in Kona, so I know how the shipping from the mainland works. What should have happened after the first incident in December is they should have been checking in on that to make sure nothing else happened. Instead, I did all the follow-up with them and kept getting the go around with what was going on. I think we all have delt with companies like this who don't care when things go wrong, they don't follow up and when your patients wear out, they try to spin it on you and play that they are the victim. The only way to battle companies like this is to not give them business. There are companies out there that do care about their clients and will have good communication and service. Yesterday, I was in a panic. I had appointments, and my garage door would neither open nor close, and it couldn't even open it manually. Tradewinds to the rescue. The receptionist Jo was so kind, empathetic and responsive and sent their Technician, JR, over within 15 minutes. He was truly fabulous. He was knowledgeable, professional and such a nice man. He explained that coils can break with no warning. Thankfully, he had the parts in their warehouse. He ran to get them and was back in 15 minutes, where he proceeded to fix both our doors, and also siliconed all the moving parts. What an absolute relief, and I even made my afternoon appointment. Made a service call and arranged a date for servicing and repair on my garage door. Getting an appointment was no problem, Tech called on the day of the service and told me when he would be here and came right on time. Very efficient service on my two doors and he really took the time to check everything out and made the necessary adjustments and serviced the doors. He was very knowledgeable and knew exactly what to do to remedy my problems. He even noticed things that was wrong that I did not notice. Where to start.... The intial phone call was very professional and polite. Even though they were booked solid they still found a way to fit me in which was beyond helpful! Their service technicians called me promptly and was waiting for me at my home, I know how time is money but they didn't make me feel like a burden or rushed. They got right to work and still made me feel comfortable and confident in having them in my house and kept me in the loop throughout the entire process. Not only did they fix the problem they also did a few test runs to make it ran even better than before it broke and found a few issues missed that would have eventually become a problem and fixed it instead of letting it break and charging me for a return visit. Can't recommend them higher. On time? Ron said he'd be at my house between 3 and 4. He got there at 3:03. I expected a diagnosis and schedule for his return in a week, or two. No. He fixed the door on the spot. (I pulled out of the garage too quickly, before the door clear the top of my car, knocked the wheels out of the track and messed the spacing on the panels.) It took him about 5 minutes with the tools he had with him. Then, to my shock, he didn't charge me. Free!!! Obviously, when my 15 year old motors wear out, or there are any other garage door issues, I'm calling Tradewind. AND, I'm recommending them to any of my Kona peeps whose garage door need attention. read more
