Serendipity brought me inside this store to pick out a present for my wife. After finding the…read moreperfect pair of beautiful earrings, I had a very pleasant conversation with Roxy, the owner. So happy was I when I left I didn't realize I left my credit card sitting on the counter. After backtracking my steps in my mind I realized this had happened over 100 miles after I had left this unique store. I contacted Roxy the following day and she was not only happy to put it in the mail for me, she was concerned I didn't have it with me on my road trip. It goes to show what a beautiful human being she is. I received my card in the mail along with a very nice post card and a heartfelt note from her a very few days later. I left The Trading Post in Austin, NV, with a big smile on my face and that feeling is perpetuated by the beauty of my experience with Roxy. Anyone driving through there would be crazy not to stop and buy something at The Trading Post. Who knows, you might even have a nice conversation with Roxy.

I pretty much, out of boredom, suckered myself into walking over to this shop expecting your…read moretypical tourist trap junk shop. Was I wrong! The owner was one of the most interesting and informative people I met on my big Nevada road trip. He told me all about the history of Austin, some of the surrounding towns, explained all about bottle hunting (some of them millionaires!), gems, and what the best maps and books for ghost town exploring are. I stayed in this store for about 45 minutes. He even had some original, NEVER washed glassware with the Muppets, ET, Star Wars, etc. You know the ones they used to sell at McDonalds back in the 1980's? They were 50% off, so what a bargain (for my sister who loves this stuff). I also bought a map of Nevada's Ghost Towns from the 1800's when they were still active AND a recreational Nevada road map (current) that really went into detail on all the side roads I was passing while driving through the gorgeous Nevada. The owner is the real deal - he still actively hunts for mines and bottles.
