I started doing martial arts informally at 17 but this was my first actual gym. The teacher, Mr. Dejardin, is nice, firm and an experienced teacher which is everything you can ask for in a sensei. There was not much of an adult program when I joined but throughout the years it grew and they have experienced fighters who are kind and disciplined. I am lucky to call them my friends and to have trained with them for years. Unfortunately I had to quit because I was living at MU those years and after graduation my career and distance forced me to quit. I trained in taekwon do and muay thai when I was attending and found both challenging and fun. My biggest regret was not training harder. The children's program is a great program, I've seen children rise through the ranks and become well rounded and better behaved because of this and I would recommend this school if that's what you are looking for. Mr Dejardin can get a little strict with the kids but it's nothing to be concerned about and he does it in a mature and respectful manner. Sometimes kids need a little firmness to help them mature. Overall this school helped me physically, mentally and spiritually throughout my college career and I am truly grateful for that

She would get in trouble for "going too hard." FYI This place does not compete, does not support competition, and will definitely not prepare your child for a real world, self defense situation. The owner claims he is all about self defense, yet the training here is sub par and nowhere near the kind of skills you'd need for an actual fight. I regret having stayed for so long...I had no idea. I left in September of this year and my current 4 year old already knows submissions and trains hard at our other place now. My 6 year old has THRIVED since leaving Ambition. If you are just looking for a hobby, something that makes you feel like you are progressing (but really aren't), and you love the false sense of skills, then this is your place. It wasn't until I entered the real competition world of jiujitsu in July 2025, that I realized, WOW, Ambition has taught my kid nothing in terms of actual fighting, offense, and defense. She was never taught any submissions. A true disappointment. I'm a full time working mother so giving up time and money for an activity needs to be worthwhile. I have massive regrets. Was this place a nice start? Sure. But definitely NOT a place to stay at if looking for real skill, technique and progression.
