It is also one of the largest stores I have been in. I like the fact that there is a Chinese place inside and a restaurant with a buffet line which I will have to try next time. Went there mainly because I wanted some good quality meats and Hy- Vee has always had that along with everything else that I need. I have been looking for the zero sugar vodka seen advertised on TV and have been unable to find it until now, this store has it so I would guess that all Hy-Vee stores will have it also. Let's not forget the gas discount also. .58 per gallon. With prices going up that will be nice. Three thumbs up

That's when I shared my experience with others. If there is an update to store policy that I am made aware of, I plan to go back to the Hy-Vee I used to love and update my review. On my last trip, I discovered this HyVee in Waverly will only price match one item per transaction. After choosing one item and leaving the others, had to check out at customer service. The assistant manager didn't know how to do it and came up with the wrong price. Left my entire cart and went to Fareway where they happily price matched HyVee. Fareway is now my go to grocery store in Waverly.

This is a pretty standard Fareway. It's not nearly as big as the one in Independence, but I…read morecertainly don't always feel like driving 20 minutes to go to Indee. It's very clean, and it's a very well-taken-care-of store. They even do a great job of getting in some of the newer types of food products. The shelves are usually stocked, and while they don't have the variety a big-box store does, this is one of the few places in town to get a good selection of groceries. Okay, it's pretty much the only place in town, and it puts the grocery selection of K-mart or Shopko to shame. I haven't had any particular issue with things being regularly out-of-stock, and they seem to do a decent job of keeping the shelves stocked. Cashiers have always been nice, and they do a good job of customer management here. They'll call up more cashiers when the lines get long, and I've never waited more than a couple minutes to check-out. Very satisfactory in terms of most stores in Oelwein (and most stores, period. Very good line management) I still don't understand the aisle organization in the store, though. There's water on the far side with some groceries then there are some aisles of cleaning supplies, then we have aisles of cookies, and then refrigerated and then frozen. The aisle organization makes no sense, and despite shopping here regularly for over a year, I still have to look through nearly every aisle when I want to find something. Parking lot is nice. I've never had any issues parking or getting out of the parking lot. Unlike some of the other lots in town, this one isn't in disrepair or going to pop a tire from their potholes. This Fareway does NOT have a fresh bakery, but they do have some bakery items. They do have a full-service meat counter as well as some types of health foods (though not a lot) like almond milk or soy milk. There is no bicycle parking, but in hilarious Oelwein fashion, there is horse parking. Prices are pretty good. Not great, but not insanely high either. If you buy the items that are on the weekly sale (especially the front page of their ad), you can get stuff for cheaper than you could find in Waterloo or Cedar Falls. The fact that Fareway employees go out with the carts to load up your car drives me absolutely insane, though. I mean, insane. I'm sure some people really like it, though, but I'd rather just deal with it all myself. Final thoughts: I'm glad this is in Oelwein or I'd have nowhere decent to get groceries. It's a surprisingly great store for this area, and they've done a good job of taking care of the property and the stock. It's obvious that whoever runs this Fareway cares about presenting a decent appearance and isn't just relying on the "this is the only place people can go" factor. I enjoy shopping here (aside from the aisle organization).

One can always google items but it might be kinda cool to have sections of the store shelves translate items to English - only for the ease of browsing quickly to try new things. The layout of the store was ok with baklava and fresh eats off to the same side & meats, cheeses and olives in the back. I specifically wanted to try the Dubai chocolate and I am craving to eat more! It's something I am going to seek out again soon when I get a chance. It was stored in the order fresh food display case. I got there about 1pm on a Saturday and three were left and I took one bar. While I was there someone grabbed the last two so they go quickly! The ratio of filling to chocolate is perfect. I also tried some baklava and Basbousa and I've decided it's not my go to but prefer it warmed up in the air fryer when I'm eating it. The fresh bakery items when you first walk in were tempting so I tried the meat and cheese filled triangle bread (not sure exact name) and they were tasty. The olive assortment was amazing in the back. I ended up with the mixed spicy olives and we both enjoyed snacking on them over the weekend. I ordered mix grilled platter to go (Shish kebab, Shish Tawook, with special rice, babaganouj, pickles, onions, garlic, or tahini sauce) I really liked the chicken and found the beef pretty bland. I would try the chicken wrap next time. The fresh pita to take home will be on my list next time.

Festive enough: a Coca Cola semi was parked out front all decorated & lit for Christmas season. inside Santa was available to pose for pictures and a string quintet from WCF symphony was playing in food court. Great ambiance and it's all downhill from here on. Friends were sitting at restaurant bar with an inch deep moat of water under their stools, it was coming from restroom and no one had come to do anything about it. I'm guessing restrooms are 40 feet down a long hall from dining room and goes by a door to kitchen somewhere back there because a chef kept delivering food from that hall and through pool of water. There was no bartender on duty. we had to summon anyone to get us drinks. A grumpy deli manager finally showed up and delivered our beverages. Then a kid arrived with a stack of towels to mop up water. I asked if he couldn't use a mop, but said he didn't think they had one, oh well. The deli manager went back to his food prep counter and offered no suggestions, help or encouragement to young man cleaning up mess. We never got a smile, greeting or asked about more drinks. Kids were banging their silverware on dining table in middle of room & as our party broke up, my husband & I decided to move out to selfserve deli tables, get a meal from food court & sat to enjoy music. There were a lot of dirty tables and being near front doors it was cold and drafty. Something should be done to enclose east side of deli dining room! Our food was okay, fried chicken dinners. I needed groceries from cheese island so proceeded to shop the store. I noticed produce area floor needed to be swept and mopped as I walked through. This is not where I do my regular grocery shop, only for gourmet items. I had a long list, my back was aching from time on bar stool so kept plugging through. First stop - cheese island at 7:15 PM & staff was cleaning slicer & covering the food in display cases. I have no idea what times specialty shops close, but this was ridiculous. They didn't want to but they relented, put slicer back into service and cut ham & cheese to my request. Next stop was meat counter & they didn't have any fresh chicken breast with skin & bones intact. Staff had to go looking for it in self-serve case. Meat staff wasn't certain where to find a couple more items on my list, so I asked to have help meet me. I waited about 5 minutes, no one came so I set out to try looking for big tortillas, dried fruit & jam. The meat staff came out to ask if anyone had ever arrived & so he found a couple young kids who knew exactly which aisles i should check, they were correct. By now I had been all over half of store, was really in pain, so I called it a night and headed to check out. I'll go to my little grocery another time for rest of the list. As it was, 2 paper grocery sacks cost me $54.00 each! The store seems to have plenty of staff around in various areas, but to me it appears that no one is working very hard, rather they are working hard to look like they are working. Somewhere it gets lost in translation that staff are loafing off. From what I observed this evening it seems none of young folks were ever trained to WORK, they seem not to know what they should be doing and the managers are sick of babysitting. The only saving Grace was that symphony group were finished performing at 8:00PM as I headed to my vehicle. I'll add one star to my review because that was really enjoyable.
