Skip Crater Lake and go to Train Mountain instead! We had an amazing time riding the trains.

We are Harvest Host member and we stayed here for one night. The afternoon that we arrived we were greeted by Debbie. She helped us to get parked and gave us our badges and a display info sheet. We were able to walk around and into most of the trains on display. The next morning we took the 30 minute train tour with David. He was very knowledgeable and answered everyone's questions. All of the staff were very nice and knowledgeable. This was a great stop for us. If they start doing tours into the back areas of the property we would definitely sign up to do one next time we are in the area. read more

This was a total hidden gem in Chiloquin! We stopped by after hiking at Crater Lake and had so much fun. We did the train tour which was a ride on the tracks with a few stops throughout that provided some background and super interesting history about the railroads. The ride took about 30 min. Our guide, Ian, was so knowledgeable. After the tour, we walked around and explored some of the train cars and equipment throughout the property. Some of the cars had stairs so you could walk throughout them. Such a cool experience if you're into history or trains! Would also recommend bringing some cash for a donation as the museum is funded by donations and largely run by volunteers. The staff were so kind and passionate about the museum. I think this would be super fun for kids, but as a group of adults we loved it!! read more

A one of a kind miniature train experience. What a fun place to be at. Sorry for ending the last sentence with a preposition if you caught that. The volunteers here were all very pleasant and loved what they are doing. No fee for coming here but I left a $20 donation because I felt that it was worth at least that. So donate appropriately for the continued success of this wonderful place for all future generations to enjoy. Do not miss the miniature train ride, a not to be missed experience. read more

Wow! Very fun place to visit. Lots of friendly and helpful volunteers answered questions and took us for a train ride even though it was cold and windy. No charge to get in or even for the train ride, they do have a donation box. read more

Train Mountain - Social Clubs Near Me - Chiloquin, Oregon

At a half hour drive from downtown Klamath Falls, train mountain is truly a hidden gem in southern Oregon! Just off of OR-62, they're always accepting to new members! If you're not a person for the half-hour train tour (which Ian did a great job at!), there is plenty of railroad equipment around the visitor center, with a self-guided tour as an option. Regarding safety, I noted no concerns, just make sure to remain seated for the duration of the ride! The best part about this experience? It's 100% free, although they do appreciate donations to maintain the world record holding railroad. read more

It wasn't exactly what I expected it to be, But it was very interesting. There are amazing things out there we know nothing about.

We found this awesome place on our drive to Crater Lake. We extended our stay in the area an extra day just so we could visit. Oh my gosh! It was fantastic. I would pay an annual membership or at least volunteer just to be able to camp out there for a while in the RV. We don't own any hobby railroad stuff, but we sure would enjoy several weeks worth of watching it all sometime! read more

A Train Mountain offical that was giving away free train rides told me to "go away" twice when I tried to voice my concerns in front of people waiting in line for a free train ride. He was extremely rude and I gave him no reason to behave in such an arrogant manner. I noticed a small girl got hurt when she fell off of the train car that she was riding. The cars do not have seat belts to secure the children safely in their seats. Seems like he was not concerned about safety, only the money he could get in donations. People that ride a train may have to sign a release of liability so if your child is injured, seems like Train Mountain will not have to pay your hospital bills. The child was lucky not to have fallen under the wheels of a moving train. read more

Great train rides for the kids, play ground and a self guided tour. The train ride was about 30 minutes of miniature towns, trains and railways. You can go into the retired cars but be careful with small children as it had bird feces and wasp hives. Great place to picnic, play and spend the day with the kids. read more

Located just north of Klamath Falls off of 97, this 20,000 acre free park features 37 miles of miniature scale train tracks all built & run by volunteers, perfect for killing an hour or two with the kids or family. The way it works is train hobbyist from all over bring their engines to this Disneyland of small things to couple up their cars and take folks for a ride...but there's no set schedule and no guarantee you can snag a ride, just totally depends on the hobbyists on site that day. Theres also multiple actual size trains cars & cabooses to walk around and into in some cases plus tons of railroad artifacts. read more

This place is above and beyond amazing. A train enthusiasts Mecca. They have like 35 + miles of dedicated track that apparently spans over 2200 acres. They have their own signal system, yards, roundhouse, Maintenence tracks. Bridges, overpasses, tunnels and more. Words can't describe how amazing this place is. Rides are free to the public but donations are encouraged. So please give!!! It's well worth any amount you could give for such an amazing place for the community. read more

The first thing I have to say is this is a Must See in Southern Oregon. If you are able to go, don't hesitate. That being said, they are not very handicap friendly. There is a lot of gravel on the paths and my wheelchair really sunk in. Also, their refreshments are high priced. However, these issues are minor when compared to the Fantastic nature of this railroad. I live within 5 miles of Train Mountain and have grandchildren who would love to see this place but I can't take them due to me using a cheelchair. read more

I agree Train Mountain was great at Christmas time. It's an event not to be missed, if you have kiddos to entertain. They usually run trains from Memorial Day through Labor Day, Sundays only. Those rides are longer than the Christmas route, but it's much warmer also. During the summer the track side concession is open for refreshments, and there isn't a fee to get on the trains. It's not free, though...just by donation (honor system) to help them with track maintenance, upkeep, and improvements. I have been visiting for many years and didn't know there was an actual museum until our Christmas ride two weeks ago! I don't know if the museum is open when rides are going (would make sense, though), but it's worth checking out. They have a great gift shop, and it's the ONLY place I've ever found a pink girl's "choo choo" shirt! The concession stand also sells a few souvenirs. Oh, and you can also have picnics, bday parties, etc there. read more

This is truly an amazing place! We went on the Christmas train with the niece and nephew and were sincerely blown away by the entire experience. I can't imagine how many volunteers they had. Clearly, there are a lot of train enthusiasts who are dedicated to bringing up another generation of kiddos who love and enjoy this amazing hobby/mode of transportation. $5 tix for adults, $3 for kids 7-12, kiddos under 7 are free. A 10 minute train ride took us to the North Pole where there were teeming pools of kids playing, making cards, making ornaments, watching Christmas shows, building stuff, etc. You can get free photos with Santa or pay $5 for a professional photo. The photo area was pretty dark, so if you want really good pics, definitely pay the money. Mrs. Claus has a kitchen area for food and a place for kids to decorate sugar cookies. A bag of popcorn is $1, nachos were $2.50, just to give you an idea. Definitely a bargain. After 60-90 minutes, I'm sure the kids would be content to move along to finish the ride. Oh yeah, free hot cocoa and coffee while you wait outside. They call all aboard and you line up and hop on a mini train for the ride back to the beginning. The total train ride is probably 10 minutes to the North Pole and maybe 5 minutes back, but they said you could go on the train as much as you want. We went when it was snowing and the entire experience was otherworldly, like in a movie or something. I saw pics and it looks like kids would also enjoy this place during other seasons as well, although I am sure they change the theme. If you have kids, you would be doing yourself a major disservice by missing out on this place. read more

This is the largest model railroad in the world -- some 26 miles of track. This is 7-1/2" gauge, so about 1/8 scale. These are "ride 'em" trains. The Klamath & Western is adjacent and really appears to be part of Train Mountain. It is open Saturdays (check schedule) for free rides, but a donation is really needed to keep the place operating. There will be a good ride, but not over most of the 26 miles -- which takes many hours. Train Mountain is a private club, but has recently been open for visitors on weekdays. The entrance is just a bit west of the entrance to the Klamath & Western. If you visit, come in the main gate and go to the office. You'll need to sign a release form. Then, you can take a look around. If there's a train headed out with an extra seat and an agreeable train operator (most are very agreeable!), you can get a ride. As with the Klamath & Western, there is no charge on the Train Mountain Railroad, but a donation is really appreciated and needed to keep this operating. Your ride might be 30 minutes or four hours, so talk to the train operator! The seating on the trains is really quite comfortable, so you can take a longer ride without "wearing out your rear." There are numerous routes through the railroad and quite a few scale model villages, industrial sites, lumber mills, etc. The scenery is great! Note that in 2015, there will be the Triennial in which hundreds of trains will be at Train Mountain. If you want to participate in that, you'll probably need to become a member of Train Mountain -- see their website at www.trainmountain.org. During some weeks and weekends, there are "meets" which bring dozens of trains out. Again, you'll want to check on membership and the schedule on the website. read more

I wish I could give this 10 stars! We visited Train Mountain while camping at Collier State Park at the suggestion of our camp host. This train tour far exceeded our expectations and turned out to be my favorite excursion of the week. The trains are built 1/8 scale to regular trains and are run by train enthusiasts who volunteer their time and talents. Super fun riding the rails through small towns and make believe worlds..You won't be disappointed! read more
