You won't want to stray off the fairways, can be punishing. If you do, at least it's scenic - overlooking the beautiful River Suir and the River Suir Valley. The cliff on the other side of the valley is a very popular target - whether deliberate or not. There's a substantial section for juniors, who are encouraged to get out often. The Restaurant fare is typical of its ilk: traditional and solid. The clubhouse is uninspiring - but some decent views out over the course.

The golf course is expansive and there is the hotel house, pro shop, clubhouse, cocktail lounge, and formal restaurant on site. When checking into our rooms, we quickly realized that we were not in the correct rooms per our reservation. We had a golf course view rather than garden view and bed sizes were incorrect. Management was not able to do anything till the following day but accommodated our group for the error with a comped 3 course dinner and drinks in the formal dining room. The food between dinner and breakfast was some of the best we've tried on the trip thus far for flavor. Drinks were also made extremely well and the hotel offers free live music in the lounge every other day from 9:30 - 11:30pm. The rooms were very spacious and beautifully historical. The bathrooms appeared to be updated in opposition to the rooms. Note that all rooms do not have air conditioning but they supply each room with a fan and certain windows can open. Golfing didn't start till around 8am so noise wasn't an issue in the mornings. The drive into town was about 20-25 minutes and ubers/taxi rides were about 20-26 euros to get there. Overall, we had a tough start to our experience but they did take care of us, the grounds were beautiful, and it was wonderful staying somewhere that was historical.

There was a signature drink in the lobby upon arrival to refresh you after a long day exploring. Check-in was a breeze; they handed you an old-style key for your room. The rooms were nice with an added raised area to be able to put your luggage. The restaurant was very accommodating of a gluten allergy, and they would walk me through what was available and change some of the items on the menu to fit my dietary needs. It was hard to leave here after the 2 nights.

Woodstown beach is a surprisingly beautiful beach. Surprising in that it's situated not along the…read morecoast, but along the river Suir - the waterway that flows through Waterford to the sea at Dunmore East. It has the whitest softest sand in the county, and is the best place to go to pick shells - it is literally littered with sparkling pink and white shells. For this reason it is loved by children who come home with bulging pockets. It stretches for about 2 miles - with a spine of low grassy dunes and a shore which banks steeply when the tide is in. Only downside is that it can get busy at weekends in summertime, when finding vacant spaces in the nearby carlot can be challenging.

She's still going well into her retirement, at the fine old age of 32. Tramore & Waterford racecourse remains almost the same. The familiar field carpark. The old stands. And the parade ring is still charmingly small. The weigh room looks the same, but a another small stand between the parade ring and the horses yard is gone. There are a few additions too, notably the kids area. It looked like mighty fun, even if it was raining. Wish that was here when I was a child. That said my memories of T&W RC remain happy ones. Nothing beat a warm sunny day at the August festival here. If you are in the area at all and there's a meeting on, go racing!!

Also known as "The other side of Tramore Beach". Saleen's is a length of sandy beach stretching…read moreout along Tramore Bay's eastern headland. It is separate from "the Baldy-Man" (Tramore's largest sand-dune) only by a slender stream. This stream feeds and empties the backstrand to Tramore Beach, so the currents are infamous. For this reason it's not recommended as a swimming beach, and unless you fancy doing laps it lends itself only to short walks. It's accessed from the region known as Cloghernagh, down a long narrow road just past the woods (there may or may not be a signpost). As it's an out of the way spot with amazing views, it's a great location for a romantic summer's picnic. Or if you're alone, enjoy a restful day with a good book and a bottle of wine.

Tramore is a really nice beach, only about 20 mins by car from Waterford city. It's not too big but…read moreexactly small either, and there is a nice promenade and seems like a great place for a walk or to bring your dog if you have one. There is a car park conveniently located as well as toilets (which aren't the cleanest by the way, but that is to be expected of beach toilets), and when I went there with my classmates there were a good few people; surfers, school sports group and a few people with their dogs or kids. It took us about 10 mins or so to walk from one end to the other, and the view is beautiful so it was a great place for taking pictures! I recommend it highly for anyone visiting Waterford, especially if it is a nice day. Overall, calm and serene, great view, easy access and close to the city.

Tramore beach is a wonderful sandy beach sweeping for miles from the foot of Tramore town to the…read moredistant sand-dunes. In fact, Tramore town derives its name from the Irish words "Tra Mhor", Tra meaning beach, and Mor meaning Big. Big Beach. It's popular with surfers, strollers and swimmers alike, and is big enough to encompass them all. The cliff end of the beach has a swimming area called "Ladies Slip", dating from when ladies and gents swam in different areas. Not surprising given the bathing costumes of the day - being seen in a saggy crotch revealing wet woollen bathing costume, complete with frilly (non-waterproof) hat, would have killed off any passion in even the most ardent suitor. Today, happily, bikinis abound and ladies are no longer conscribed to the cliff end. A promenade marches along the first mile or so of the beach, marked mid-way by a life-guards hut. Locally given the poetic moniker "the Prom". At high tide the waves pound this wall, and delighted kids and dogs scream as they're drowned in the surf storming the wall. You'll also see surfers appear from nowhere at the merest hint of a swell. Tramore is a famous surfing beach, having hosted numerous national and international surfing competitions. Well worth a visit.

A lovely little park was revealed during the last renovation of Tramore House. Its landscaped…read moregrounds are fed by a small stream and several little ponds. It's a favourite of the local school kids at lunchtimes. Also favoured by local dogs: if your mutt is missing, he's likely to be found mucking around in there. Unfortunately, its ponds are from time-to-time home to shopping trolleys. North of the landscaped area is a little wilderness, with a hidden little gazebo and picnic area. Kennedy Part is not a place for sightseeing, but if you fancy some secluded spot, in the middle of the village, this is for you.

If the Pier is where every Tramorian learnt to swim, Newtown Cove is where they learnt to live in…read morewater. It's a very steep cove with a stony sea bed, and a short pebbly beach. A concrete platform and walkway runs the length of the Southern cliff, with ladders and ramps to allow quick access to the water, without the bane of sandy-feet. In summer the high-diving board is installed, and kids spend their days practising their moves. Backed by lovely shady woods, it has everything (including public loos and changing rooms) necessary for a trip to the seaside.
