It was easy to communicate with the team, both on big picture issues and on smaller logistical issues. Bitarchitects listened to us and provided us with options and expertise to navigate the task of structural reinforcements for our 100-year old DC home. I also appreciated that, in addition to talking through things, they neatly put things in writing so there was a clear documentation of the project. -- We had an urgent concern with a structural issue in our old house so we reached out to Bitarchitects based on their good reviews here. We received a prompt response and soon had an engineer evaluating our house. The engineer was thorough, helpful, and went above and beyond. He provided a lot of valuable insight both on site and then in a comprehensive written report. I also appreciate that Bitarchitects is able to help me find vendors to complete the work recommended in the engineering report. I have had a great experience from the start and would recommend Bitarchitects to other homeowners.

They completed a full scan and photographing of the property to provide the best quality report. The engineer was super knowledgeable and happy to explain any issues he noticed while working through the assessment. I then met with staff to discuss the report and answer any remaining questions. After listened to our desires to reclaim our back yard from the mosquitos, Chris designed a slightly modern outdoor entertaining space off the back of our traditional 1920s American Foursquare. The results were the blend of the traditional screen porch (beadboard ceiling, ipe flooring) with modern features (recessed LED lighting, ceiling fans, all-weather speakers) creating a perfect bug-free entertaining space. Completing the project is a small patio containing a couple of chairs and our grill. We could't be happier with the way the project turned out! While the project went slightly longer than expected (don't they all!), the quality of the design and construction were worth the extra few weeks. Chris was very good at keeping us appraised of the progress during all phases of the project (design, permitting, change orders, inspections, etc.), answering our questions and concerns about building process, and incorporating our changes during construction. We will certainly use Mode 4 Architecture and Chris Tucker for any future projects at our house!

Once we decided to go for a…read morefull gut job to include moving and/or opening up load-bearing walls, we wanted to hire a professional company that would be a valuable resource and guide during the entire course of the project and that would also come at the the job with our preferences and lifestyle in mind to ensure both the products and the style would last over time. Aidan definitely fit the bill on both fronts. I appreciated the thoughtfulness to every detail in the space they brought to the job, having entire conversations about perfect hardware and over-sink lighting. My partner and I were very involved in the process and they knew how to balance that out with thoughtful and polite input on our choices (even when they disagreed), but I would imagine they also work well with people who have less opinions overall (i.e., more easy going). Not only was the design process and material selection pretty much seamless, we ended up going with a great contractor that they had worked with previously and it made our lives easier to know they were in regular communication with both him and us so everyone was always on the same page. I know this is not typical, but there was an issue with the cabinet supplier right before our project was slated to start and we were so grateful that literally everything was handled by Aidan (including ensuring our contractor could adjust the start date) and we didn't have to do any last-minute scrambling ourselves. If you are looking to redo your kitchen once and do it right, I would highly recommend Aidan Design.

They brilliantly balanced listening and incorporating our goals and ideas with their own based on their experience and expertise. For example, I thought I wanted the sink right in the middle of the counter, but they pointed at that with how much we cook and bake, it makes sense to put the sink at the end so we have a bigger stretch of counter space. They truly made our dreams of how we'd like to use our kitchen come true by turning what was a barely functioning kitchen closet into an open, useable, and comfortable space.

Their demolition, repairs, and cleanup were all done with great care and professionalism. They knocked down our closet, created a beautiful archway between the hallway of kitchen/dining room, and are now working on leveling the floors. Every team has their pros and cons, but what stands out is their honest communication, strong work ethic, and dedication to doing the job right. They are always willing to listen to feedback and improve, and we really appreciate that. We highly recommend him and his team for any home renovation work. NB: Should be a 4.5, but that's not an option here…read more Our renovation project involved putting in an all-new kitchen and powder room, plus refinishing floors, replacing lighting, and repainting living room/dining room/family room/hall on the same (relatively open plan) level and some relatively minor exterior work. Project included electrical and drywall work but no structural changes. Mold removal wasn't originally part of the project, but, when a problem was discovered, it was handled thoroughly and expeditiously. The good: Overall, the finished project looks great and all the changes we made to our kitchen/main floor work well. Coordination between the design and the construction teams was good and we ended up working with great people on each side. Colleen, who helped us with kitchen design, was very good at laying out/generating alternatives and flagging pros and cons. She was focussed on our objectives and kept working until they were met. Fabricio held down the fort on the construction side. In addition to being a skilled craftsman with high standards, he is someone who is always looking for ways to make things better. He thinks ahead and has a problem-solving mindset. We always felt that he was treating our home the way he would his own. What fell short of perfection: probably worth bearing in mind that this was our first renovation project so it's not a comparative assessment. We've heard other peoples' horror stories and our issues were minor/mostly resolved in real time. That said, two pieces of advice: (1) Make sure the designer you are working with is a good match. If not, ask for someone else. Landis has multiple designers on staff. (2) If you are moving out for renovations, give yourself a cushion (more than a month on each end) wrt alternative arrangements for housing.
