The only thing I should point out is that this pub is pretty expensive, at least when it comes to beers. However, it is still a pretty amazing place to sit down for a drink. Well, I don't come here anywhere near as much as I used to, maybe because I just prefer to get home, and that it happens to be pretty pricey. Still, as a bar it is pretty amazing, and they also have a pretty great selection of beers, though I should point out that that it does get pretty crowded at times. read more

Transport has to be the bar that has some of the most eclectic clienteles you could ever imagine. It's vicinity to Flinders Street Station and it's prime location as the main bar you'll see in Fed Square make it a place that gets an incredible amount of foot traffic and is often full with a line outside at weekends. Transport is a place where suburbanites and city slickers mix. It makes for an interesting crowd. It's also a place that if you are looking for a good time (if you know what I mean), well frankly, it is prime for that. It's both a hugely flattering and hugely unflattering term to describe a place as a meat market but Transport certainly is that. Look, I don't want to be a hater based on the quite obvious fact that this place is generically popular, hugely mainstream and almost boringly centrally located, but there's just something about Transport that I can't get on board with. Great, scenic location? Tick! Speedy service? Tick! Good wine list? Tick! Atmosphere? Erm, no. That, coupled with the fact that Transport seems to attract both an inordinate amount of 'suits' and girls who might as well be in their birthday suits and I am definitely not a fan. If I'm going out for a night in the city, this is generally where my friends and I will choose to meet for a few early drinks, before we decide where we are going. The reason being? That if we are too indecisive in choosing another place to go to, we can always stay at Transport, and have a good time anyway. The bar is right across from Flinders st Station, and makes it really easy for people finishing work in the city to meet up with friends coming in from the suburbs. This place is a modern Melbourne pub.With all the regular beers and bar drinks available, plus a few other international beers and wines, I'd say that the drinks are a little pricey compared to average pub prices, but then again this place is also alot nicer than the average pub. I cant comment on the food because I am yet to try it, but I defintely like the bar service and the general ambiance. Billed as an award winning architecturally designed pub in the finest tradition. Amen to that. I think what they mean by a pub in the finest tradition is, in a nutshell, the clientele. I've been out of the whole singles scene for a long time, so I guess its why I find it so amusing here. It looks so upper class, but the amount of bogans, skankish people and drunken messes is unbelievable at Transport. Which is why I love it!! It really is the place city folk go on the weekends to get absolutely shit faced and layed, exactly in that order. It's also open from midday for decent sized, good pub grub (that's the talk, isn't it?), and is a great spot for a Sunday arvo sesh. Good location, cheapish drinks, full bar, open outdoor spaces, and good time party people of all sorts. It's bound to be one helluva time!! read more

Granted, this place does not have as much charm as a lot of other spots you can find in and around Melbourne. However, it still hits the spot. ~ Good location right in the city with plenty of things nearby if you get a bit bored. ~ Fantastic customer service. I've never had a problem with the people. ~ Nice, spacious, trendy venue. ~ Great selection of things on the menu for both food and drink. ~ They play more popular music because Transport Hotel is more mainstream. But you cannot go wrong with some Beyonce! ~ My friend and I saw a guy here with the most intricate Greek-philosopher-esque beard. He even had the little curly mustache - EPIC! I'm pretty certain that I'll be back in the future more than once, but like I said before it doesn't really have the zany Melbourne unique charm. Oh transport, how convenient you have been over the years. Located next to flinders station, it's a good way to start a night. The place, it's well designed and looks really nice. I don't think I've ever spent longer than a few drinks at this place. But it's always nice for a visit. After a train ride in or a walk to flinders a fuel up is always much needed. I'm somewhat ambivalent about this place. I enjoyed it, but I doubt I'd go back. It's a pick-up joint. Everyone there was either trying to hook up, or they were just sealing the deal. I wanted a place to grab a quick beer and sit for a bit to talk with some new friends. Too much noise and movement. I'm sort of a dog being distracted by a squirrel that way. When something moves, so does my attention. There was constant movement and sound, making it difficult to hold a conversation. If noise and hooking up is what I was looking for, this would be the place. It wasn't really what my mood needed. The review could be better if my mood and this place were in sync. read more

This place used to be hip and happening! But much like an extreme and revved up law of thermodynamics, This place is no longer a hot spot as it were, but rather cold. Cold in the bad way. It's just so same-y now and rather dull and uninspiring. I've"ve got mixed results of the social factor here both snooty types and friendly people. When it's quiet, its pretty chilled out but it does get loud quickly. Kudos though for the 80+ beers or however many there is. Not too impressed with the tap beers as they are boring and are not rotated to new and differing options regularly or quickly enough. I just don't get. It could be a great bar but they don't even try. There's seating for at least half of China, and wait times at the bar can be extremely long. Yes it's busy but I think that is based on the location and defiantly not the ambiance or service. And don't even get me started on the crazy, overpriced drinks. Man, there's like eight blokes hanging out the front ready to drill (mainly guys) about "how much you had to drink tonight"? The Transport Public Bar is one that needs no introduction, especially given its location. Though many of us might not have walked into the space, almost all of us would have seen it at some point or even everyday. If location is anything, this place has picked out the most coveted spot; right opposite Flinders station and bang in the middle of Federation Square. Overlooking the city, Transport bar has an amazing view on offer. Whether you pick your spot outside or inside, it's a space that you can both relax and soak in the city atmosphere at the same time. We chose indoors as it was slightly chilly. And being a working weekday, there weren't too many customers which suits just fine when you are catching up with your girl tribe. For drinks, we decided to go with cocktails as the menu had a few interesting ones. Both the drinks and food menu changes often which is great as this is a space that attracts a lot of regulars. I chose the Lemongrass and ginger daiquiri, specifically because of those two ingredients. The flavours were distinctly refreshing and even though I expected it to taste summery, it actually reminded me of autumn... The second cocktail chosen by one of the girls was the Pom Plum Rum (I hope I have got this right), a delicious concoction of rum, cherry and other ingredients. Apologize that I forgot the exact combination; we were having too much fun to get into the details but nevertheless it was delicious and perfect for autumn. The food at Transport Bar is relaxed and casual; no fancy stuff but crowd favourites created in the most delicious way. Easy to share food with good quantities is another highlight which works perfect when you are catching up with friends or stopping by for an after work drink or a bunch of tourists. We ordered three dishes which we shared amongst ourselves and these were; The Baja fish tacos with coleslaw, lime and coriander - a Mexican delight that just can't go wrong. Succulent pieces of fish encased in soft tortillas and finished off with coleslaw, salsa, lime, coriander and a dash of sour cream. Absolutely delicious and fingerlickin good. Simple couldn't go past the Mexican street corn with cheese and Tabasco butter - how can you not love corn on the cob with grilled cheese and that splash of Tabasco to spice it up. Highly recommended especially if you are a corn lover! And the final dish was the day's special - buffalo chicken wings. Yet another classic that was done to perfection. The chicken cooked perfectly and tossed through a delicious buffalo sauce that had just the right kick of heat. Yet another fingerlickin one. Thoroughly fed and satiated, we said no to dessert this time. Maybe another lunch date to try out the desserts. I am sure we are going back..... To summarize, a great place to hang out with friends and family. Do make it a point to take out a bit of time from all the stuff you need to get done and catch up with that someone special; small priceless moments of happiness. read more

I always find myself going back to transport again and again. The central convenient location is well easy and a great place to meet people and start your night. Their range of beers is pretty good , but expect it to hurt your wallet a little but this is to be expected with craft beers and the city location. Always always busy, actually I don't think I have ever been here and said oh it is very quite but again you expect this. You don't stay here for long, maybe 2 - 3 drinks and then I feel it's time to move along. Great for after work drinks during the week or on weekends! Does get crowded outside on a nice day but you seem to be able to always squeeze in on someone's tables. Staff I found not very sociable maybe due to the high traffic of people ordering drinks. Great view of the river at night with lights from the city all around. For me, Federation Square is something best left to the locals. It gets amazingly crowded, always has some silly streetshow, and it quite expensive. There is a part of Fed Square that I quite like, however. Transport Hotel (and all its different spaces) is really a cool building. This is what I'd imagine the corner hotel to look like 100 years into the future. Cool building and metal and glass with many different spaces: you can eat, drink, dance, go up on the roof. I've not eaten here, but I've had many an evening drinking and dancing with friends and watching all the spaces inside and out of the building. It's fun because it's always lit up really interestingly and you can see all the crowds passing outside that wish they were inside with you. To me, its perfect for taking visitors from out of town. I have to admit, I don't think I've ever been here except as a pit stop on the way to the tram or before catching a cab home and it's always about the time of last calls for drinks. Luckily we get the whole place pretty much to ourselves. The staff seem quite friendly and it's so relaxing sitting at federation square staring out into the tram section and watching daily life pass by. The other benefit to this pub is that you can see some amazingly beautiful buildings lit up at night. read more

Amazing venue by the river dropped in for a quick catch up with a mate! Fairly busy and limited seats available. Saw a table free 'reserved' for 6pm it was 6:25pm and no one at the table so we sat and had the intention to move if the booking arrived. No sooner than wetting the whistle with a cold Little Creatures beer than a glass guy said we can't sit there as its reserved! We said we will gladly move when the group arrive! He came back and said no one but the booking can sit at the table! He would not budge as he said it was the managers order! As such we vacated table watch several others being moved on and at 650pm no sign of booking and a lot of frustrated people moved on! Common sense please such action ruined visit, great beer ok ambience nice view but staff and manager need some retraining re table bookings not arriving! read more

If you want to smile for a couple of minutes Google Sharpei. Back to Transport, the location I don't think could get any better but the place has no soul, they do have a lot of beer though. Then again so do a lot of places so why would I choose to come here. Somehow the soul to beer trade-off does not mean that I will be attending anytime soon and I will venture elsewhere. read more

Transport is an apt name for this bar. It's a meeting place, waypoint, the beginning of bigger and better things on a weekend. It's prime location in Fed Square makes it an ideal spot for meeting up with people, particularly out-of-towners because it's so easy to find and the glass layout makes the most of the surrounding views. There's a small outdoor area and the bar attracts a crowd after events at the MCG as people make their way back to town from the footy. I wouldn't go here as the highlight of your weekend plans but if you take it for what it is supposed to be - a well-located bar for a couple of drinks with friends before kicking on elsewhere it's a great spot. read more

Currently my favourite venue in Melbourne. We go here every week before the football, sometimes it's packed but that's fine, the bar staff push through and you're never waiting that long. Funnily enough you always manage to find a seat too which is great. They have the best beers on tap. All the staff are friendly and don't mind having a yarn which I think is really good. Nothing better on a nice day than sitting outside next to the river having a pint. Good stuff. read more
