The chips served with it however, were really nice - makes a difference when almost everywhere in UK the chips are half fried... prices were more than ok happy to go back. Oh! The wine is lovely and there are real ales on tap. Through to the restaurant area, it is nicely decorated, warm and spacious with another fire. The service is attentive and friendly and the menu changes regularly and has lovely hearty food all at reasonable prices. I can particular recommend the burger - although the wedges are spicy! We also tried a selection of local whisky. And we topped it off with the chocolate cake, ice-cream, cream, and sticky toffee dessert. This time, our friends recommended we eat upstairs at the restaurant... We were there on a Wednesday night, and I think only three tables were occupied. Not surprisingly, the service was therefore very attentive, but the food was also excellent. There's an eclectic range of dishes from pub favorites like fish and chips to a sort of deconstructed crab sushi. Good wine list, lots of local produce. And reasonably priced. There aren't many decent places left in Stonehaven to dine out, but this should definitely be on the list!
