When life got hectic, I had already been reading for years on travel blogs about the perks of having a travel agent, I thought it was time to give it a shot. I put down my backpacker-esque, 'I am not your typical tourist' pride and got in contact with Triple C. Mike came highly recommended from the Chinese community which made me hesitate at first because honestly, my Chinese sucks. I tested the waters by writing him an (English) email requesting an itinerary for an upcoming multi-country trip, detailing my numerous travel preferences in an anal fashion. To my astonishment, it was only minutes before a reply appeared in my inbox. Within the email was a spectacular itinerary to which I love dearly and could not have put together so well myself in such small amount of time. A few minutes later another email followed with a few concerns over how I wanted to fly in to one side of a country and leave from my specified airport that's on the the opposite end of the same said country. (I had plans to take the train across the country but forgot to mention it in my initial email) Fantastic attention to details. A quick check over kayak and a few other sites tell me Mike's prices couldn't be beat and I was sold then and there. When recently I emailed Mike regarding my woes with the difficulty I was having getting a Chinese visa he was quick to offer advice. Mike is always quick to respond to my traveling needs and questions; most of our email conversations can be concluded within minutes. I love that. Straight to the point and super friendly. Oh, my worries regarding the whole Chinese thing? Totally a non-issue. This whole experience makes me wish I had made buddies with a travel agent sooner!

But THIS latest visit cast a shadow over everything. I couldn't go over 45 without the car shaking uncontrollably so I brought it in last week and they were able to reproduce it yet unable to find the cause, but they did balance my wheels as a "complimentary" service or so they claimed (you'll understand my skepticism). On Monday I took it to this local auto shop and surprise surprise they found the culprit--a broken and rusted rear brake caliper that AAA had given a green checkmark in their Autoserve report. Either those reports are total bs or someone's not doing their job. Or it's both.

Our consultant gave us some brochures and asked other consultants to lend expertise on the trip we were interested in. We left the appointment with a 72-hour window to complete the reservation AND for the consultant to provide the "how to" move forward. On the third day, I made contact to see how we could move forward before the deadline passed and the reservation would be lost. The consultant, having forgotten about where we were in the story, failed to provide what was needed ---- the reservation was lost. The promise was an attempt at a do-over once 24 more hours had passed. Rather than risk another blown opportunity, I called the vendor myself --- and booked the same dates/cabin/destination as a new reservation. Anniversary saved - go ME. The next day, received an ALL CAPS email from the consultant: "IF YOU DO DEPOSIT TODAY I CAN REBOOK. NEED TO KNOW." Needless to say, I won't be a repeat customer of this business.
