I really wanted to love this school,…read morebut sadly that didnt happen, this school and the whole AISD system is a joke, my daughter was sexual assault at this school, it took them the whole school year with a Tile 9 to try to get the student removed, finally June 2025 they let me know that yes they find the child responsible for sexual assault but they would only send her to ALC for 20days and keep a stay away order in place, mind you the stay away order doesnt do anything, the child was still coming into contact with my child, I would have to email every week, just to keep records for myself. and for the record this child didnt just sexual assault my child there were alot of other girls, I do wonder if a boy had done this if they would of taken this more serious, because the girl that was doing this was always in trouble, then to top it off someone broke into her locker stealing a pair of 120.00 shoes , the girl was so bold she even wore them to school and these shoes were not easy to come by my daughter was the only child in school to have these shoes when they came out, she was so proud of that. stay away if you can, I was so shocked how things went for our first year there, given the location and neighorhood it was in.

I can tell you that the school is named for witty writer William Sydney Porter, better known by his pen name of O. Henry (yes, that's with a period after the O). This review concerns the school's purpose as a free community resource for fitness, and in that arena, O. Henry gets a solid 3.75 stars. The AISD campus is located on Exposition Blvd. just a few blocks north of Lake Austin Blvd. in the hoity-toity Old Austin neighborhood of Tarrytown (bordered by Mopac to the east, the Colorado River to the west, and 35th St. to the north). Within walking distance is a Randall's grocery store, the Lion's Club Golf Course, the West Austin Youth Association (WAYA) sport complex, and the Howson Branch of the Austin Public Library. My son had a hard time learning to share and communicate his frustrations in the beginning of the school year. But now he loves to share and help others. And has learned to verbalize his frustrations instead of throwing fits or hurting others. He'll have the occasional bad day but for the most part, he has made a huge improvement from the first week of school. And I thank Ms. Arthur for that. I could tell she didn't want to say he was "being bad" so she'd say, "he made a couple bad choices today, but we talked about them." I will be sad to see him leave her class this year. But I'm sure she will leave a positive impact on my son's education. He is off to a great start already! And they have Brighter Bites here!

Mostly I am impressed by how sweet and intelligent my niece and nephew are and this is the only school either of them have attended. They are both bright and funny and open minded and kind hearted. I'm sorry to read that the kid who commented has had such a shady experience. I would say by his writing that other than the obvious grammatical errors, he has a promising writing style! Being the parents of an only child, my husband and I were unfamiliar with how little idiosyncrasies in his behavior were of some concern on a larger scale. We just thought his younger age was the reason. At the end of the spring semester, both his PK2 teacher and school director, Amber, brought it to our attention with the utmost respect and love. Upon returning for his PK3 year, his new teacher and Amber addressed it again with the same respect and care saying that he may benefit from further evaluation from his pediatrician. Speaking from personal experience, this was THE BIGGEST BLESSING we could have received for our child. We saw his pedi, followed up with more professionals, and he has improved drastically in less than a year and a half. We want what's best for our son, and it is so apparently clear the loving staff at this school sincerely wants what's best for him and every child there. I find the teachers very approachable, Amber is always around for a conversation with little ones and parents and her door remains open all day (unless she's in a very rare personal conference, like the ones we had about our son's social development), and they have been the best at improvising given the Covid19 quarantine. They are sending daily pre-recorded lessons from his teachers for my kiddo (can't get enough of his music class or storytime!), and they gave us the option to withdraw while still holding our place for semesters for which we've already registered. A rumored claim I'd like to clarify from a reliable authority on the issue is that teachers were given the option to stay home during the outbreak while maintaining employee status and their health insurance. Given all the options some workers face at this time, staying home unpaid, while keeping health insurance, is better than being unemployed. It reassures me that the administration's loyalty to the teaching staff is of utmost importance for the social and emotional wellbeing in the young students who rely upon that stability. I recommend this school to everyone with room in their hearts for God's message. The preschool alone lays such a balanced foundation of faith, love, and service to others. They have been a cornerstone in our son's social, emotional, physical, and faith-based development.

I have contacted many adults at this school to help me with getting 504 accommodations. One laughed in my face & told me that I would probably never be getting these accommodations. This school is full of adults stuck in the past, who do not take this seriously, especially if u r diagnosed at a later age. They told me this process would take 6 weeks-- it has been months. My psychologist & parents have contacted them about my ADHD. Nothing. They insist on using school grades to determine if someone needs extra time instead of taking the experiences of the student/student's family into account. It is almost like enjoy seeing their students struggle; they think that this struggle means hard work. They take pride in not allowing their students to switch classes b/c they think they r raising the next generation of Einsteins. They watch me cry in the halls & do nothing. There is a big lack of empathy present in both students & adults in this school. The students r constantly looking for ways to bring each other down. It's like everyone has had their soul sucked out of them-- compared to everyone I feel very immature; students r very serious & act like they're in college. Students see more APs & NHS as a "flex" & consider themselves superior to u. I refuse to join clubs b/c of the hostile student body. I had a friend (junior also)get a suspension for defending himself against a freshmen-- this includes ISS & bus suspension. His parents r divorced & his only way home was by bus. The freshmen who was shouting slurs/attempted to physically injure my friend has not been expelled yet, but u can now get expelled for cheating on a test. I've written long paragraphs to teachers describing my experiences w/ ADHD. i feel like I constantly have to beg to them for understanding & extra time. Some r not even present during their designated office hours. Some also clearly treat freshmen worse than upperclassmen. Majority of students come from immigrant households, such as myself, and work only for parent validation ("u kids have it easy, back in my country we...").
